This article is about the "Floral Fields" theme. For the stage in Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, see Floral Fields (Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe).
This article is about the "Floral Fields" theme, and should not be confused with the "Flower Fields" theme or Floria Fields.

"Floral Fields"[2] is a theme composed by Jun Ishikawa for Kirby: Triple Deluxe. It's heavily associated with the first level of the game, Fine Fields, and it contains two of the game's main motifs.

Composition[edit]

Kirby begins his journey through the floral fields of Fine Fields.

"Floral Fields" is a cheerful and upbeat theme in the key of C major and in a 4/4 time signature, with a fairly fast tempo, around 160 BPM. The theme is primarily played by a high-pitched keyboard percussion instrument, a piano, and woodwind instruments, with a rather goofy bass line played by very low-pitched brass instruments, giving the theme a dynamic marching rhythm. After a glockenspiel intro, the theme can be divided into three sections: the first section, played by the instruments mentioned above, is very joyful, the second—backed by acoustic guitar strumming and characterized by a four-note response—is somewhat melancholic and more intense, and the third section—with a melody played on electric guitar—is powerful and more exciting.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Kirby: Triple Deluxe marks the theme's debut and is used in Fine Fields - Stage 1, Fine Fields - Stage 2, Old Odyssey - Stage 1, and Royal Road - Stage 3 (before getting Hypernova). It is also used for the Flower Land Battle Stage in the Kirby Fighters Sub-Game. It appears as Track 5 in the Jukebox and Track 03 on Kirby: Triple Deluxe Soundtrack.

Additionally, parts of "Floral Fields" are featured as motifs in several tracks:

  • "Waking to a Flowery Coup!" — opening cutscene theme and track 2. A B major version of the first section of "Floral Fields" plays near the start as Kirby's everyday life is showcased.
  • "Hypernova Inhale" and "Hypernova All-Stars" — themes for Hypernova Kirby, tracks 6 and 93, respectively. Shortened arrangements of "Floral Fields" with additional elements, which are then further developed as independent motifs.
  • "The Cave in the Sky" — stage theme for Fine Fields - Stage 2 and Old Odyssey - Stage 3, track 8. The third section of "Floral Fields" is used as the contrasting second section here.
  • "Chasing Down the Miniboss" — mid-boss battle and boss intro theme, track 10. It has a short intro based on the third section of "Floral Fields".
  • "Bouncing Boss Battle" — boss battle theme and track 15. Its A section revolves around the melodic idea of "Floral Fields"'s third section.
  • "Taranza, the Master of Puppetry" — theme for the cutscene "Taranza, the master of puppetry" and track 95. A rhythmically varied C minor version of the first section of "Floral Fields" serves as the second section.
  • "Divine Beauty" — theme for the cutscene "Divine beauty" and track 98. A heavily-modified variant of the first section of "Floral Fields" opens up the track, later growing into "Kirby's Triumphant Return".

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe[edit]

"Floral Fields" from Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe by Hirokazu Ando.

In Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, a slow paced arrangement of "Floral Fields" plays in the stage of the same name.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe[edit]

As Flower Land now uses the Kirby's Return to Dream Land Item Challenge arrangement of "Green Greens", "Floral Fields" is instead used for the Waddle Dee Train Tracks Battle Stage in Kirby Fighters Deluxe.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

The original theme plays in the Ability Testing Area in Kirby: Planet Robobot, and can be found as track 100 in the game's Jukebox.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe[edit]

"Floral Fields" in the ending cutscene theme from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe.

In Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, "Floral Fields" (as heard in "FLOWERED" from its game of origin) is paired with the Town theme for the ending cutscene music.

Kirby's Blowout Blast[edit]

The "Floral Fields" arrangement from Kirby's Blowout Blast.

In Kirby's Blowout Blast, a slow paced arrangement, similar to the one from Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe, plays as a bonus theme in the plaza after scanning the Waddle Dee amiibo. This arrangement lacks much of the percussion used in the Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe arrangement, possibly due to the percussion being used to guide the player's rhythm and as such not needed in a non-rhythm game.

Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

"Waddle Dee Train Tracks (Secret Song)" from Kirby Fighters 2.

In Kirby Fighters 2, the original theme is again played in Waddle Dee Train Tracks, while an arrangement of the theme can be unlocked as the secret song for said Battle Stage after reaching Fighters Rank 92. Said secret song also has a chance of playing in chapters 4 and 5 of Story Mode and will always play on Very Hard difficulty of Single-Handed Mode.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

In Kirby's Dream Buffet, the original version of "Floral Fields", named "Kirby: Triple Deluxe: Memorial Song 1" in-game, is unlocked for potential use in races upon reaching Gourmet Rank 85.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, the original theme is one of many songs available for The Great Cave Offensive, available by default.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the original theme reappears and can be used in all Kirby stages, Battlefield, Final Destination and their derivatives, available by default from a new save file.

Other appearances[edit]

The theme was performed live in the Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert as part of the "Kirby Triple Deluxe Medley", along with "Moonlight Capital", "Taranza, the Master of Puppetry", and "Fatal Blooms in Moonlight".

In The Sound of Kirby Café 2, "Floral Fields" is arranged along with "One of the Miracles" as part of a medley called 空と花の香りの思い出 (Remembering the Sky and the Scent of Flowers). It is an upbeat acoustic remix that takes cues from "Dreams and Disappearing Kings" and can be found on the CD as Track 11.

The Play Nintendo web game Kirby: Triple Deluxe Match-Up features the original version of "Floral Fields" as its background music. Interestingly, in this game, the intro is skipped, and only the first section loops, with the music getting back to the beginning just when the second section is about to start.

"Floral Fields" is featured in an officially licensed collection of Kirby sheet music published by Yamaha Corporation.[3]
