"Bright Spinning Planet"[2] is a musical theme composed by Hirokazu Ando for Kirby: Planet Robobot's title screen. It also bears a major-key counterpart, titled "Spinning Planet Complete",[2] that plays in late-game areas.
Composition[edit]

"Bright Spinning Planet" opens on a curious, plucky synth playing three sets of rising notes followed by a descent in a similar manner. Percussion and backing synths slowly join in as the theme gets more comfortable, and it takes on a wary and ominous tone that will eventually be realized fully in "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection". The melody gives way to "Haltmann Works Co. HQ", occasionally interrupted by the opening motif (sometimes inverted). As a title screen piece, the music is very short and loops back to the original motif at the moment the backing synths join in.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
In Kirby: Planet Robobot, "Bright Spinning Planet" is not only the title screen theme, but its introductory segment holds a motif used in various tracks throughout the game. A truncated major arrangement of the theme, titled "Spinning Planet Complete", plays in the lobby of The True Arena early on, as well as in the sticker collection screen when all 200 are collected. They are found as tracks 001 and 145 respectively in the Jukebox.
Also directly based on "Bright Spinning Planet" are "Overload Ocean", the level hub for the eponymous level, which is based on the unique variant of "The Noble Haltmann", and "Apocalyptic Reboot", the theme for the cutscene "Apocalyptic Wish" and the rest area preceding Star Dream in The Arena, which consists of the primary motif in rising and falling patterns. These can be found as tracks 020 and 088, respectively.
As an individual leitmotif, "Bright Spinning Planet" appears in several other themes, all of which were composed by Hirokazu Ando:
- "First Contact" — opening cutscene theme, track 002. It features "Bright Spinning Planet" throughout, most notably after the intro.
- "Patched Plains" — level hub theme for Patched Plains, track 005. It includes the primary motif of "Bright Spinning Planet" in the latter half.
- "Fatal Error" — cutscene music for "Apocalyptic Wish" and "A Star Is Born" and rest area music preceding Star Dream Soul OS in The True Arena, track 092. It features both the unique variant of "The Noble Haltmann" and the primary motif from "Bright Spinning Planet" in the latter half.
- "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection" and "Vagrant Keepsake of Oblivion" — boss themes for the third phase of Star Dream and Star Dream Soul OS, and the second half of the fourth phase of Star Dream Soul OS, respectively, found as tracks 095 and 155. They are elaborate arrangements of "Bright Spinning Planet" with additional elements of "Milky Way Wishes: Shooting".
- "Pink Ball Revolution" — music for Access Ark - Stage 5 and the Final Screw Mode portion of the battle against Star Dream, track 096. An arrangement of "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" that includes well-defined elements of "Bright Spinning Planet" near the loop point.
- "Planet Heart" — ending cutscene theme, track 098. Includes "Bright Spinning Planet" at the end, mirroring "First Contact"'s ending.
- "Memories (I'll Never Forget You)" — staff credits theme, track 099. It features a sped-up version of the primary motif of "Bright Spinning Planet" near the end.
- "Soul 0 System" — theme for the first half of the fourth phase against Star Dream Soul OS, track 154. An arrangement of "Milky Way Wishes: Shooting" with a sped-up version of "Bright Spinning Planet" appearing.

Also noteworthy are the three prototype versions of "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection", all three of which include a variant of "Bright Spinning Planet" - the first prototype almost fully encircles it.
Other appearances[edit]
Starting with Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, "Bright Spinning Planet" represents its game of origin in the Past Adventures menu.
In Kirby Star Allies, "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection" appears in "A Deus Ex Machina from Childhood", a medley of the Vagrant song and "VS. Star Dream". The theme opens with the "Bright Spinning Planet" section, completing one full iteration at normal speed before moving into double-time.
Trivia[edit]
- "Bright Spinning Planet" opens with a motif that sounds much alike that of "Sky Tower" from Kirby's Return to Dream Land. Unlike another similar situation in the same game (between "Spinning Jungle" and "VS. Star Dream"), this was never acknowledged, even in Planet Robobot's remix of "Sky Tower", so this is likely another coincidence.
