"First Contact"[2] is a theme from Kirby: Planet Robobot that plays during the opening cutscene with the same name, found as track 002 in the Jukebox. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]
Composition[edit]

Similarly to other cutscene themes from Kirby's Return to Dream Land onward, "First Contact" consists of several intertwining motifs, following the cutscene closely. It predominantly features variants of "The Noble Haltmann" ("Haltmann Works Co. HQ", "Flight of Azure" and "Mother's Intuition") and "VS. Star Dream" as antagonistic motifs, "Bright Spinning Planet" as a neutral motif, as well as, in notably low quantities, protagonistic motifs ("Boarding the Halberd" and "Green Greens").
"First Contact" begins in C minor and 4/4. At first gentle with lead glockenspiel and harp, it introduces two variants of "The Noble Haltmann" combined into one: the first two phrases of "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" leading into the third phrase of "Flight of Azure". A flute and low strings join in as the Access Ark looms over Dream Land, and then as the residents are alerted by its presence, high-pitched synthetic beeping noises play a varied fragment of "Bright Spinning Planet"'s primary motif, ending on a suspenseful dominant. As the invasion of the planet begins, the shortened motif of "VS. Star Dream" is played rapidly by a bassoon multiple times. Ruthless and forceful, the first section of "The Noble Haltmann" proper appears with heavy brass and the use of bells, the beeping noises returning.
After two sustained Cs, the second section of "Boarding the Halberd" in F minor by strings portrays Meta Knight attempting to retaliate with the Halberd; however, this motif is suppressed by the melody of "Mother's Intuition" with duller instrumentation and a return to the urgent pace through a slight increase in tempo. While the Halberd is shot down, "VS. Star Dream" (in its "Fatal Error" iteration) continues in F minor, now predominantly with strings. As the focus shifts to Kirby, the music resolves to F minor's tonic with the help of "Green Greens"'s rising fourth. The instrumentation is more scarce as Kirby looks around; "Green Greens" is phrased in such a way that it becomes a variation of "The Noble Haltmann", while a tonally unstable phrase of "Green Greens" (somewhat similar to its "Kirby's Triumphant Return" variant) seconds it with brass. With a clear view of the transformed landscape, the second section of "The Noble Haltmann" arrives with full instrumentation, resolving in a final quiet violin rising fourth from "Green Greens" and subsequent fading acoustic version of "Bright Spinning Planet".
