"Squeak Squad Theme"[2][3][4] (titled "Mouse Attack Theme" in the European versions of the Super Smash Bros. series[2]), also known as "Squeak Squad Appears!",[5] is a musical piece composed by Jun Ishikawa[1] that first appeared in Kirby: Squeak Squad. It is the main theme of the Squeaks and their leader, Daroach.
Composition[edit]

"Squeak Squad Theme" is a mischievous theme starting in C minor which plays at roughly 182 BPM. Perhaps its most characteristic trait is the use of sounds that sound like squeaking noises, though in actuality, they only appear twice in the whole piece.
The theme consists of various distinct sections. After a short intro is the ska punk-styled first section, that introduces the main phrases of the theme. This section is repeated, with the first phrase being responded with the squeaking noises, and the last phrase resolving differently. Next is a more serious section, reminiscent of "Welcome Your New Overlord"'s quieter section, soon followed by another playful section played by a keyboard percussion instrument. The track then transitions to its last section, once again serious, which speeds up as it progresses. Lastly is an outro, which resolves the melody, and notably is backed by bongo drums. The squeaking noises play, and the track loops, skipping the intro.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]
"Squeak Squad Theme" debuts in Kirby: Squeak Squad. True to its name, the theme plays when the Squeaks appear as Kirby grabs any large treasure chest, as well as in the cutscene after beating King Dedede in Prism Plains, when the Squeaks first show up. It can be found as Music 22 in the game's Sound Room. The main motif of the theme is also incorporated into "Vs. The Squeaks".
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
An arrangement of the theme can be unlocked for the Halberd stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl after collecting a random CD. This arrangement is an electronic-rock version of the theme, and it features an extended opening and a slightly different loop; it also directly samples the squeaking noises from the original theme. It is arranged by Hirokazu Tanaka.
The arrangement returns in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U as one of the tracks that can play in the The Great Cave Offensive stage and is also unlocked by collecting a random CD. It also appears in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, now as a default track. Like all other Kirby themes in the game, it can now be played on any Kirby series stage, Battlefield, Big Battlefield, Small Battlefield and Final Destination.
Kirby Mass Attack[edit]
In Kirby Mass Attack, an arrangement of the "Squeak Squad Theme" plays inside Daroach's Airship. This version is a slow-paced bossa nova arrangement set in major key, and only covers the very beginning of the melody, and thus lacks the squeaking noises. It is named "Daroach Reunion" in the game's Music Player, and was arranged by Shogo Sakai.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, when selecting Kirby: Squeak Squad in the Kirby's History mode, the original version of "Squeak Squad Theme" plays.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
In Kirby Star Allies, the original version of the "Squeak Squad Theme" plays when selecting "The Great Labyrinth Battle" Celebration Picture. It can be listened to in the game's Jukebox as track 146 as of version 4.0.0.
The theme also gets two distinct arrangements. The first is a short one for Daroach's Dream Friend jingle, titled "Daroach Comes Calling!" on Nintendo Music. It simply uses the first main phrase, and the squeaking noises played by a piano. The second is a full rearrangement of the theme, titled "True Squeak Squad Theme" on the Nintendo Music (referred to as "True Squeak Squad Theme (Kirby: Mouse Attack)" on the British English version before the update in April 12th, 2026), playing during Morpho Knight's boss battle in Guest Star ???? Star Allies Go! and Soul Melter (EX) in The Ultimate Choice if player one is Daroach. It features a slightly longer intro, and the squeaking noises are sampled from the squeak sound effect used for Daroach, rather than played by an instrument. Both themes are arranged by the original composer, Jun Ishikawa, and can be found in the Jukebox as track 137 and track 180, respectively.
Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]
In Kirby's Dream Buffet, the original version of the "Squeak Squad Theme", named "Kirby: Squeak Squad: Memorial Song 2" in the American English version and "Kirby: Mouse Attack: Memorial Song 2" in the British English version, is unlocked for potential use in races and Free Rolling upon reaching Gourmet Rank 115.
Other appearances[edit]
The original version of the "Squeak Squad Theme" was included in the Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition Compilation Soundtrack. Here it is titled "Squeak Squad Appears!".
In the Kirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert, the theme is the last track present in the "Kirby & The Amazing Mirror / Kirby: Squeak Squad Medley". As it is primarily played by violins, the squeaking noises are also played by them. This medley was arranged by Shogo Sakai.
On the Kirby 30th Anniversary Site, the original version of the theme plays when viewing Kirby number 04 ("Treasure Scramble").
