"Friendly Field"[1] is the theme for the stage with the same name from Kirby Star Allies, as well as one of the game's main motifs. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa.

Composition[edit]

Two friends spring cleaning in the field.

"Friendly Field" is a cheerful theme in F major and 4/4. It starts off with an intro consisting of a fanfare-like full cadence, followed by springy accompaniment punctuated by a tuba. The intro presents the main melody's intonations in a modified form, played by bells and an oboe, as well as a percussive pattern of three consecutive notes which adds playfulness throughout the piece. The melody itself, relegated to a flute, consists of two elements: a rising tonic triad in second inversion (a trait notably shared with "A New Wind for Tomorrow"), and a second, narrower and quicker descending phrase with added xylophone, featuring repeated notes reminiscent of "Peanut Plains". The melody is repeated and varied by a clarinet.

Due to its harmonic function, the melody does not find immediate resolution, and is instead developed in a sweet lyrical section by strings as the flute takes on a smoother counterpoint, akin to "Grass Land 3"'s second section. The second element soon reaches its peak in development, going through a full cadence with harmonic subdominant harmonies. The intro's fanfare serves as the start of the third section's new melody, first played by a trumpet, and then strings; it is derived from the second element but spans significantly wider, thus giving it tonal stability. This section serves as a climax of all the ideas presented in the piece: the wide range of the first element, rhythm of the second, three consecutive notes in the percussion and harmonic major. As the melody ends rhythmically stretched on a dominant, the intro repeats for the track to loop.
