"Loud Locomotive"[2] is the second train theme in Kirby: Planet Robobot, heard in Rhythm Route - Stage 5. It was composed by Jun Ishikawa[1] and can be found as Track 046 in the Jukebox.
Composition[edit]

"Loud Locomotive" is a techno theme in F Mixolydian mode and 4/4. It begins with a loud and distorted iteration of its melody: a rising third and descent to E-flat in the first phrase and C in the second. The melody plays twice with this distortion until softer chords take over. Then, the melody is repeated by a synth, and another chord transition follows. Then, a new melody comes for the second section, bright and in D-flat major. This melody is quite close to the third section of "Desert Stage", and bridges to a future track with similar origins. The melody repeats in a more quiet, percussive synthesizer. The final section features a rising passage, this time similar to the second element of "Desert Stage". With diverse harmonies, it ends with two rising fourths, each suspending for a short while. The track then loops.
Trivia[edit]
- This track is one of the few included in the Kirby: Planet Robobot Original Soundtrack to have a very different English name compared to its Japanese one. In particular, "Loud Locomotive" was also a name given unofficially by fans to this song before the soundtrack released. It's unclear if the official name was given based on that unofficial one, or if this is simply a coincidence.
Names in other languages[edit]

| Japanese | 超特急ミライカナリ[2] Chō tokkyū miraikanari |
Miraikanari Super Express 「超特急」, "super express", is an obsolete term for rapid express trains in Japanese.「ミライカナリ」is the name of the train, and is likely a reversal of「かなり未来」kanari mirai ("so futuristic"). It could also be a play on「ニライカナイ」(Nirai Kanai), the concept of paradise in the Ryukyuan religion. |
