"Red Canyon: Stage Select"[2] is a theme from Kirby's Dream Land 2 that plays in the level hub for Red Canyon. It was composed by Hirokazu Ando.[1]

Composition[edit]

Kirby crouches at the mountainous area.

"Red Canyon: Stage Select" is a short and energetic theme set in 4/4 with rasp instrumentation and a quick and steady eighth note pulsation in the accompaniment. The melody consists of a phrase repeated three times, each a tone below the last (starting in E major and ending in C major), and a chromatically rising resolution phrase with E major's double dominant. The main phrase consists of three rising notes in stepwise motion, followed by a mildly syncopated descending triad in second inversion. After the resolution phrase, the track loops.
