Professor Mace is a non-playable character from Final Fantasy XIV. He is an Astrologian from Sharlayan, who is the leading professor in astromancy having taught his granddaughter Leveva Byrde who he travels with to Eorzea to share their art.

History
Early life
When he was younger Mace had a child who he named Rufin. As a professor he taught in Sharlayan's colony in the Dravanian Hinterlands teaching Jannequinard the art but departed with the rest of his countrymen when the exodus began. Later on in life, his son's wife died during childbirth and Rufin was killed a few years later, leaving their child an orphan. Mace took his granddaughter Leveva under his care and taught her astromancy.
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward
Mace arrived in Eorzea with Leveva whom Sharlayan's Forum had permitted to visit the realm. The journey was far from uneventful, as they were forced to detour through the South Shroud where the Warrior of Light and Jannequinard's retainer, Quimperain, met his party waylaid by bandits. Mace was captured by the bandits and upon seeing the Warrior of Light, he tossed his soul crystal to the adventurer. His granddaughter stated this event was foretold in the stars, and she would assist the Warrior of Light to learn to use the crystal. He is later rescued by the Warrior and his granddaughter, who he states is his successor and assists them in attuning to the "Bole" constellation, including teaching them about it.
Arriving in Ishgard, Mace berates his former student for not greeting him when he set foot in Eorzea and states that Leveva will continue his teachings. Although he is disappointed in his former pupil's abilities, he approves of his efforts in promoting Sharlayan astromancy in Ishgard. Following his brief visit, he returns to Sharlayan.
Upon his return to Sharlayan he is detained within the Dark Cells and questioned for his unauthorized passage to Eorzea where he awaited a trial for his crimes. Following Sevestre’s defeat and subsequent return, he has Mace released from prison and has his charges dropped due to Leveva’s intervention and recent findings.

Appearance
Mace is an elderly midlander hyur with short light brown hair and brown eyes. He wears the Welkin attire without the face mask.
Personality
Mace is a renowned professor in astromancy, regarded as the greatest in all of Sharlayan. He has an impressive ability in reading the stars and allows fate to guide his path. Jannequinard tends to test his patience as his former pupil always takes the easy route and doesn't think through his decisions. Although he can be hard on him he respects his efforts in promoting astromancy and continuing his teachings even though he hasn't made much progress.
