Sylginie once served as the gardener of House Haillenarte of Ishgard. When the Calamity brought severe cold to the region, all flowers withered, including the Driancoin, a rare species of rose cultivated by the house. In order to save the Driancoin from extinction, Sylginie defied the laws of House Haillenarte and took a seed of the rose to the Black Shroud, where the climate was more suitable for its survival. In Gridania, she met a botanist named Laurovic and entrusted the rose seed to him. Over the following months, Sylginie and Laurovic fell in love. However, still burdened by guilt over what she believed to be her failure toward House Haillenarte, Sylginie felt she did not deserve happiness and left Laurovic without explanation.

Years later, Laurovic—who remained in love with her—successfully cultivated the rose and supplied a large stock to be distributed during Valentione's Day. When Sylginie learned that his true intention was to draw her attention and arrange a reunion, she asked the Warrior of Light to tell Laurovic to forget her.

Later, during the celebration, Sylginie heard rumors that Laurovic intended to duel Ser Titouan of House Haillenarte. Fearing for the botanist's safety, she rushed to the scene, only to discover that the duel had been staged as part of a plan to draw her out. Laurovic apologized for the deception and asked why she had entrusted him with the Driancoin seeds before disappearing. Sylginie explained that she had only wished to preserve the roses, but having failed her house and broken its rules, she felt unworthy of happiness. Laurovic vehemently disagreed. Kneeling before her, he offered a bouquet and pleaded with her to remain and cultivate roses with him. Ser Titouan assured Sylginie that she would not face punishment; although she had broken House rules, her intentions had been noble, and she had saved the Driancoin from extinction. After a moment of silence, Sylginie finally allowed herself to smile and accepted Laurovic's sincere proposal.[1]
