Herberin is non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. He an alchemist specializing in the study of wild beasts. Herberin appeared during the seasonal event Hatching-tide in 2026.
History
Herberin traveled to the Twelveswood in search of a troublesome strain of flytrap. While closely examining its leaves, his eyes were severely burned by the plant’s venom. Since then, his eyes have suffered from intense irritation, causing pain and nausea when exposed to sunlight, wind, or similar elements, forcing him to wear protective goggles at all times.
While continuing his investigation into the plant, he was approached by Nonotta and the Warrior of Light, who were dealing with a leafkin that would not stop growing at the site designated for the egg hunt during the Hatching-tide celebration. Herberin eagerly offered his assistance in developing a solution to counter the leafkin. After obtaining the necessary ingredients, Herberin prepared a solution capable of preventing the flytrap from regrowing. After producing the solution, Herberin briefly collapsed due to exposure of his eyes.
Once the solution was applied in the sickle and the preparations were made, the party went to the arena, where the Warrior of Light successfully cut down the plants. Nonotta praised the effort, while Herberin expressed delight not only at the effectiveness of his solution but also at the abundance of floral samples he had collected. As the alchemist departed to continue his studies, the Warrior of Light returned to Jihli Aliapoh to report their success.
Jihli Aliapoh was surprised to learn of the troublesome leafkin, but relieved that the grounds were once again suitable for the egg hunt. As she spoke of her desire to thank Herberin, the alchemist burst into the amphitheatre in jubilation, celebrating a breakthrough—his eyesight had been restored thanks to a solution derived from the regenerative properties of the leafkin samples. His optimism regarding the implications of this discovery for the field of alchemy led Jihli to realize that her dream had symbolized not only the egg hunt, but also the growing hopes for the future.[1]
