Ser Yuhelmeric is a non-playable character from Final Fantasy XIV. He was an Ishgard knight who appeared during the Archer, Conjurer and Leatherworker storylines in the version 1.0. He perished after the Calamity and became an ashkin who is faced as a boss at the Dusk Vigil.
History
Early life
As part of a family tradition on the day of his wedding, Yuhelmeric received from his father, Wealdtheow, a priceless sapphire known as ice rondel, considered the family's greatest treasure. However, an inquisitor coveting the gem accused the family of heresy. Yuhelmeric's wife was interrogated for days, and when Wealdtheow succeeded in securing her release, she was described as little more than a shadow of her former self.
The sapphire was eventually set into the forehead of a newly carved statue of Halone, the Fury, located within Saint Guenriol's Chapel deep inside the Dusk Vigil. By a twist of fate, Ser Yuhelmeric later assumed command of the Dusk Vigil and came across the ice rondel once more. Yet he was unable to prove that it was the very same gem that had gone missing.[1]
Final Fantasy XIV (version 1.0)
When an Ishgardian knight was found wounded in Twelveswood, Morys guided him back to his companions in Owl's Nest. When the adventurer went to camp looking for Morys, Ser Yuhelmeric said that Morys was already gone and that the knight he had brought claims to have seen a dragon in the forest but that should be some misunderstanding due to his injuries.[2]
When the adventurer and Keelty delivered a letter from Gods' Quiver to Ser Vairemont in Owl's Nest, he read the content and immediately gave the order to Yuhelmeric and his knights to set out for the Black Shroud. Later, Yuhelmeric and his men are seen escorting captured criminals out of the forest. Yuhelmeric warned his subordinates to be careful when drawing their weapons because inside the forest they are being watched by elementals.[3]
At the request of Atelier Fen-Yll, the adventurer took a chocobo leather saddle to Ser Yuhelmeric in Owl's Nest. He informed that the Knights of Ishgard are doing all in their power to put an end to the banditry in the region.[4]
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward
In the days following the Calamity, western Coerthas was abandoned by the Knights of Ishgard, except for Dusk Vigil. Ser Yuhelmeric refused to withdraw and remained with his willing men. As the days passed, the snow in Coerthas became more severe and the famine spread. Ser Yuhelmeric spent his time in the chapel in front of the ice rondel praying to Halone. Subsequently, Ser Yuhelmeric suppressed a riot and personally executed even the most trusted officials. Eventually he and his subordinates perished and became ashkins who roamed the abandoned Dusk Vigil for five years after the calamity.[5]
Wealdtheow sought help to retrieve an ice rondel, but after the knights refused, he asked the Warrior of Light for assistance. The Warrior of Light ventured into the Dusk Vigil, defeating the ashkin and finally giving Yuhelmeric some rest. The Warrior of Light recovered the ice rondel and returned it to Wealdtheow.
