Apyaahi is a non-playable character in Final Fantasy XIV. She is the founder of Passage of the Unbound, the group of antagonists during the role quests in the Dawntrail expansion.
History
Apyaahi's past is largely unknown but she did mention that she lived with her sisters who got drunk on a regular basis and resented that she had a "role" chosen for her amongst her people. A role which she had no say in choosing and no chance to change, leading her to resent rules and laws in general.
For an unknown crime, Apyaahi was banished from her home, forcing her to find a new home for herself. However, Apyaahi couldn't reconcile with the basic fact that all lands would have their own set of rules, including that she had to pay for basic lodgings which was something she claimed wasn't a custom amongst her people. As she traveled from land to land, trying to live the way she wanted, Apyaahi got more and more frustrated with all the rules and restrictions, eventually finding her way to Tural. She hoped that the New World would finally be the place she could do as she wished but was disappointed that it was no different to any other land with rules. After losing her tent for "vagrancy", Apyaahi decided to end all the rules and restrictions, thereby founding the Passage of the Unbound.
Apyaahi observed various people around the world and wrote an invitation to five individuals to join her villainous organization, arranging the meeting at the Xbalyav T've in Tuliyollal. The guests were: Leophyne from Ishgard, Virazahn from Radz-at-Han, Samidare from Doma, Ellerete from La Noscea, Chalteaufite from Ala Mhigo. With everyone reunited, Apyaahi explained that the Passage of the Unbound was a secret organization with the intention of spreading discord throughout the world. Apyaahi persuades the guests to join her, explaining that with the help of Tural's sacred relics they would have the power they needed to achieve their goal. With the organization founded, Apyaahi instructs each member on how to infiltrate the clans throughout Tural and steal their respective treasures.[1]
However, all of her compatriots began to seek out the relics for their own petty desires, regardless of Apyaahi's aspirations of creating an organization that would topple nations. One by one, the Warrior of Light found and apprehended each of Apyaahi's associates and retrieving the relics they stole, leaving Apyaahi the sole member left of the Passage of the Unbound.
Apyaahi tried to rebuild her order by gathering new members, which the Warrior of Light used as a means to get closer to her and finally apprehend her. Ultimately, Apyaahi explained her origins, which the Warrior found petty and underwhelming, before attempting to continue on with her goals. The Warrior, however, attempted to put a stop to her goals with a gathering of friends whom Apyaahi initially underestimated. Despite Apyaahi's efforts and the use of the magical relic at her disposal to summon beasts, the Warrior and their allies finally subdued Apyaahi, destroyed the relic and arrested her. As she was being led away by the Landsguard, Apyaahi continued to believe that her Passage of the Unbound will live on by those who believe in her vision.
Initially, Apyaahi was correct that she still had believers in her view of freedom but like herself and her former members, they lacked a level of common sense in speaking about the Unbound out in the open, leading them to be outed as criminals and being hunted down by the authorities.
Characteristics
Appearance
Personality
Though Apyaahi presents herself with a great deal of ambition and a drive to form an organization that would spread discord and chaos throughout the world, she bears an astonishingly lack of common sense, such as founding her organization out in the open where bystanders hear every word. Further, Apyaahi possess a poor judge in character when it came to recruiting her fellow conspirators, claiming they represented "true freedom", as while the members she chose possessed ambition, they were far from being competent or loyal to her cause. Instead, they used Apyaahi's aspirations for her order to gain access to powerful magical relics to fulfill their petty goals and their overall ineffectiveness in combat basically made them a comedic joke the Warrior of Light had little problem in defeating.
Apyyahi's personal motive for founding the Passage of the Unbound is about as petty as the goals of her associates. She never felt free, as wherever she went, rules and laws placed restrictions. The final straw for her was, when she refused to pay for lodgings, she settled on a tent on the street, until it was taken from her, as it was vagrancy. After that she sought a place without any sort of restrictions or need for payment for anything.
Apyaahi's view on freedom is very twisted, as to her freedom means life without any kind of rules. However, she doesn't understand that a world without rules would quickly fall into chaos. In this she doesn't desire actual freedom, but rather self-indulgence. Even after she is defeated she still doesn't understand what freedom truly means, only wanting to do whatever it is she pleases.
