Day 10, for [personal profile] dorinda: could you talk about the relationship dynamics and/or story tropes that you find yourself gravitating toward? Could be ones you go back to and explore repeatedly-- or, the ways you find your preferences differing with time, or with different fandoms...

I am both old and old skool... )

Great question, thank you. ♥
killabeez: (kitties snuggle)
Hey, fan friends! I have...not posted here in a long ass time. I haven't written or vidded anything in a couple of years, either, except for a couple of short SPN challenge fics, and my brief flurries of Highlander fic each year at the holidays. (Thank you, [community profile] hlh_shortcuts!) I'd really love to write something again, but I feel so out of touch. Is there anything you'd like to see more of in the following fandoms, or any story I've written that you'd like to see continued? At this point, I have many that I've started follow-ups for, but never got very far. Some that are just vague ideas. I'm taking prompts/suggestions/requests! I'd really like to dig into something substantial, as I haven't done that in years. Please give me a nudge?

I'm also nearly at the end of a post-S4 Supernatural rewatch, in which I actually think I've finally watched all the episodes. I've enjoyed it far more than I expected, and found much more to love than I remembered. At this point, I'm kind of heart-eyes for the whole series all over again, despite its flaws and foibles.

So, fandoms I'm always game for:

Jeremiah
Highlander
Supernatural
Miracles
12 Monkeys (TV)

Fandoms I'd be open to, especially for crossovers:

ST:TOS
ST: Discovery
ST: Picard
Being Erica (this is a new fannish love!)
Black Sails
Lost Girl
Killjoys

Casting my line out, hoping for a bite or two. ♥ Life is A Lot, right now. Just looking for a path to distraction.
killabeez: (kitties snuggle)
Y'all, I accidentally (I swear) wrote (sort of) death fic for my [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling recipient, [livejournal.com profile] de_nugis. And now I feel super guilty about it, and would so welcome any Sam/Rowena prompts that might strike you. I promise nothing, but guilt is a powerful motivator.

While I'm here, let me wholeheartedly rec the Sam/Rowena delightfulness that was written for me:

Title: i saw a video essay about this, once by [livejournal.com profile] duckondebut
Pairing: Sam/Rowena
Rating: PG-13
Any warnings: vague spoilers for s13, some depictions of violence and gore, mild swearing

Completely charming and hilarious, the author got Rowena to the last beautiful, snarky degree, and I loved it.
killabeez: (samdean resouled hug)
I got tagged on Day 2 for [livejournal.com profile] salt_burn_porn—which proved to be extremely difficult, as the first Tuesday of the new year after a holiday is one of our absolute busiest days of the year, work-wise. To make things worse, I had a commitment to go wait in line at the vehicle registration office, another to cat-sit for friends, a third for a concom call about Escapade, and several of the seven people I live with needed attention on house matters. Nevertheless, I porned! More or less. It probably should have been twice the word count that it was, but still. It got done! Even if it is a femslash threesome that almost no one will want to read. :D

The stress of trying to do that while everything else was happening made me realize that it's been five years since I wrote (or vidded) anything that wasn't for a deadline. So, that's my goal for the first part of this year: write something that isn't for a story exchange, or a challenge! I'm going to commit to do this by the end of February. Let's see how that goes. (And I mean, yes, I realize that I'm giving myself a deadline, but that's different, right?)

A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead walk into a bar
Rating: NC-17
Genre and/or Pairing: Claire/AU!Charlie/BadPlace!Kaia
Spoilers: mild for season 13-14, I suppose
Word Count: 3,765
Summary: Written for [livejournal.com profile] morganoconner’s prompt, take me higher.
killabeez: (Duncan Methos negative space)
Eek, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] salt_burn_porn. It's a 24-hour instant porn challenge, and although that always sounds terrifying, I've had good luck with it so far. Apparently not having time to overthink is a good thing?

Does anyone else have trouble writing a new story or starting a new vid when you have one that you haven't posted yet? I always have trouble with this! I like to work on one thing at a time, and it doesn't feel "done" until it's posted. I have a few different Highlander-ish things I want to work on, but I'm having trouble getting started because [community profile] hlh_shortcuts reveals haven't happened yet. It's a weird mental block. But I did finish a little vid project last night, so maybe I can start on the one I want to do for TGIF/F. If I can find hard drive space, oy.

Catching up on The Voice, and there's a dude on here (Jack Cassidy, bless his heart) who sings the way I write sometimes, where I think I am maybe skating the edge of greatness, writing without a filter and letting it all hang out, but in actuality I just need to be patted on the head and sent home. ♥

I was just thinking about this the other day, that zone you get in where you're like, fuck it, I'm gonna stop self-censoring and just write what I feel, this is amazing, and then later you're like, WTF WAS THAT METAPHOR? I DIE OF EMBARRASSMENT.

Day 09 - Set some goals for the coming year.

The last few years have been stupidly, crazily stressful. I guess I can only do my best to try and believe that this year will be better. Just the thought of setting goals is making me nervous, as if I'm tempting fate, but since my S.O. challenged me a few days ago to make some, I'm going to try.

Non-fannish goals:
1. Exercise more. At least four days a week, some kind of dedicated exercise time. (Right now I'm on a Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday schedule. Add Friday when possible.)
2. Get outside more. At least one of those four days must be outside.
3. Have more fun. Put work down on the weekends.
4. Write letters.
5. Organize my kitchen.
6. Spring container garden. (see 2. and 3.)
7. Re-learn how to sew well enough to make a costume for Halloween (if not Club Vivid).

Fannish goals:
1. Finish one of my long Highlander WIPs. Pick one and get it done.
2. Leave more feedback. Put down the kudos button.
3. Finish a vid for Escapade. This is the hardest one, as I'm really not making progress on the one I thought I would make. Decide this weekend what I'm doing about that.
4. Take a shot at writing the Angel/Spike/Buffy post-series story that is lurking about my hard drive. I recently read what's there and it doesn't suck.
5. If that doesn't go, then the Jeremiah post-series story that I always mean to drag out at Yuletide and never do.

And on that note, I'm off to the gym. :)
killabeez: (Default)
I haven't written a single thing this entire year, and I think I'm losing my mind as a result. Well, more of it. I can't promise this is actually going to result in writing, as I've had good intentions before, but...borrowed from [livejournal.com profile] de_nugis, originally from Tumblr (alwaysbellamyblake).

Please comment with the number of a prompt, and a pairing. All fandoms in my profile are fair game, though some are more likely to result in fic than others. Crossover pairings welcome, but again... yeah. :)

1. “Come over here and make me.”
2. “Have you lost your damn mind!?”
3. “Please, don’t leave.”
4. “Do you…well…I mean…I could give you a massage?”
5. “Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
Cut for very long list... )

Prompt me?

killabeez: (Default)
I'm dying to write lately, but have way too much real life going on to get into a big story—or even a medium story. So frustrating! However, I do have a day off today, and other than going to the gym, I have the house to myself and no plans! So incredibly rare.

[livejournal.com profile] de_nugis just revived this meme, and I had so much fun with it last time, I must follow suit. I'm going to go back and revisit some of the previous prompts that I didn't get to, but I'd love some new ones, too.

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I will give you 1-3 sentences (or more) from or about it.

Open season on all my fandoms, past and present. Crossovers also welcome!

Beta?

Jun. 23rd, 2013 09:56 am
killabeez: (duncan up to no good)
Would anyone be willing and able to beta my [community profile] intoabar story when I finish it? I hope it will be done by this afternoon. It should end up at about 5K words of Sam Winchester and Duncan MacLeod (SPN/Highlander respectively, no actual slash but past Sam/Dean implied) and needs to be posted by Tuesday. It's okay if you only know one of the two shows—that might be helpful in this case, actually. I don't need grammar checking so much as logic checking and such.

Thank you if anyone can help! ETA: Sorted! Thank you. :D

Relieved!

It's been over six months since I wrote anything, ficwise, and a year since I wrote anything SPNwise, so I was scared to sign up for [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling—but it's one of my favorite challenges, and I couldn't resist. Thank goodness, I got my assignment and one of the prompts grabbed me right away. I've got the story laid out and a good bit of it written already. Phew! I'm grateful for rainy Sunday nights. (ETA: I just realized, the last time I wrote SPN was for last year's [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling, before those deadly ComicCon spoilers came out. Yikes.)

I'm also up to 2K words on [community profile] intoabar, and maybe approaching a resolution. Thank you, words! Don't leave me.

In other news, that Orphan Black show is pretty freaking amazing so far, isn't it? Thank you to all who turned me onto it. (Who else is watching this?) And we started watching Elementary last night (finally!). I only stayed awake for the first episode and a half, but I love it already. All of you were so right about that one. I can't wait to watch the rest of S1. It's stupid how relieved I am to be watching two shows with interesting and smart lead female characters I care about.

Now, out into the wet to cut back evil blackberry bushes.
killabeez: (duncan up to no good)
You guys, you guys, I got my assignment for [community profile] intoabar. "Sam Winchester walks into a bar and meets... Duncan MacLeod."

:D :D :D :D :D :D

Now the only question is, is the bar Joe's, the Roadhouse, or the Grey Gull?

Everybody who's playing, tell me your assignments? I'm so excited about this challenge. It is perfection.
killabeez: (duncan up to no good)
Guys, only six hours left to sign up for [community profile] intoabar / [livejournal.com profile] intoabar.

Fic, art, podfic, vids, and graphics are all welcome. If you're going to, the time is now!

(While I'm here, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] dswdiane and [livejournal.com profile] chemm80, and to my very dearest [livejournal.com profile] hafital, whose birthday is tomorrow. Hugs to all!)
killabeez: (Haven threesome)
Titles/synopses for 3.11-13 behind the cut )

I have so much to say about the most recent eps of both Haven and Merlin, all of it made of pure fannish love, but haven't quite found the time yet. Also, crap, I still haven't written any more on my [livejournal.com profile] hlh_shortcuts story. I might be kind of fucked there, huh?
killabeez: (Default)
I'm kind of having a fannish meltdown this week. Some total insanity (and the completely mistaken idea that I would have five minutes of peace to write) made me sign up for the first posting date for [livejournal.com profile] hl_chronicles, which is NEXT SUNDAY. I pretty much have no time to reasonably expect to write between now and then unless I give up sleep, which, given the amount of working out I'm doing and how much rest my back needs, is not feasible. My story is currently 764 words and should probably end up around 6-7K, if it were even remotely possible that I could make that happen in a week, which frankly it is not.

The same stupid impulse and self-delusion made me sign up for the Sam/Dean Minibang, which is SO not happening. Between work, life, VividCon, and my inlaws coming for half of August? Yeah, totally not happening, even though I love all three of the possible stories I have started.

But at the moment, my real OMG!BEARS thing is that I'm signed up to do two panels at VVC. One is with [livejournal.com profile] wickedwords, which I think I can manage. The other is on typography in vids, and this is a major problem. When I volunteered to lead that one, I had no idea that sitting/watching vids/pretty much doing anything at my desk was going to become a thing of the past for me, and it requires a lot of those things, and I am rapidly running out of time and hope that anything is likely to change. So I am desperately hoping that someone who reads this would be interested in working on it with me? Mostly I need someone who can help me find examples. But someone to bounce ideas off of would be wonderful, too.

And lastly, if you are reading this and have ever made a vid that featured typography in any way that you think is interesting (whether that be as part of a credit sequence, or even better, in some other way), PLEASE link me to it? Or if you've seen one that you think would be worth talking about—whether or not you think it works?

I'm leaving comments screened so that if you want to link your own vids you don't have to be embarrassed, or likewise a vid you think missed the mark a bit.

I will love you forever and probably bring/make you presents if you can help in any way. Pretty, pretty please, take pity and help to reduce my current state of BEARS.
killabeez: (Cutest. Sloth. EVER.)
I was up until about 1am working last night, and started this morning at 5:30, so I feel like 11:26am might not be too early to knock off for the day. What do you guys think? /wishful thinking

Random things:
1. I find it a little hilarious, if disheartening, that the one vid I've ever made (out of about 120) that people remember is the one where I resisted my co-vidder like crazy on the whole concept, and only got sucked in when I decided I wanted to figure out how to make that little iris-opening-and-closing effect.

2. I have a terrible, terrible black thumb. So far this spring, I've managed to keep seven plants alive out of eight. The cilantro was a near thing, but I think I saved it in the nick of time—apparently, they like water. Who knew? (Anyone want to take bets?)

3. I did sign up for [livejournal.com profile] spnspringfling, of course. This could be a terrible decision. (Aside: I'm using the word terrible a lot today. Coincidence?)

4. This Supernatural story by [livejournal.com profile] liptonrm just made me laugh out loud with delight.

What are you guys up to, today? What are you writing/vidding/art...ing?

/sleep-deprived random

A very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] jarrow! So many of my very favorite people were born in May. ♥

F-list, I have had quite the emotional ups and downs over the last few days. Work stress, family stress, back pain, health issues, etc. The long and the short of it is, a couple of days ago I was all BLACK CLOUDS OF DOOM, I hate myself and the world and everyone else, yadda yadda. On Sunday and Monday, though, I took Steps to Rectify a lot of the stress-causing issues, and am feeling much better about things. Still a lot on my slate, but taking steps feels much, much better than flailing in overwhelmed misery. (One of the Steps was to not claim anything for [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang. I really wanted to make a vid, and vidding is out right now, so all it would have been is a big stress and misery ball in my stomach. Sad to bail, but oh, so much wiser than my usual modus.)

The Kirk/Spock Fanfiction Archive )

So, yeah! On the heels of that success, I went on to conquer a very difficult work problem, and am now feeling like a supergenius. *preen* That should last until my second cup of coffee, at least!

And now, since I'm feeling so wise and uncharacteristically smart, let me leave you with this final pronouncement of wisdom: when you are brainstorming a story, and you have a whole bunch of great ideas for it? WRITE THEM DOWN. Yes, self, I'm talking to you.
killabeez: (Default)
You know that thing they say about how when you get out of the habit of posting, it gets harder to start again? Turns out, that's true. I know this is probably not news to any of you. So, a short post, before I forget how!

It's been kind of a shitty week. My kitty is sick! Stupid uterus! And my back is really messed up, and I don't really have insurance to pay for it. That's the tip of the iceberg, honestly. BUT! I also have fannish things to natter about (LOST GIRL WTF), and lots of fic I need to catch up on, and all that good stuff. [livejournal.com profile] belmanoir also did something to my brain (I'm not sure how) at Bitchin' Party, and I am... writing Star Trek again, apparently. No, I do not know. (One of the side effects of my back being totally screwed is that I can't sit at my desk that much, which is very very bad for work and vidding, but is very good for writing! Because I can do that on my laptop.)

What I'm actually posting to ask, though, is... I need a beta for a pretty sad/depressing Supernatural story. It's Dean/Lisa and Dean/Sam and even has a tiny hint of Dean/Castiel (though barely). It's about 12K words, and not quite finished yet, but close. Post-Swan Song. Honestly, it's really all about Sam (as if anyone will be surprised). Anyone feeling brave? I hope to finish it today.

(I heard Luck got canceled. Mixed feelings about that. Mostly glad, because horses getting hurt = not on, but it was a really good show. I wish David Milch wasn't cursed.)
