I did my best to take notes of what was said at the vid review. (We only discussed the premiering vids due to time.)

Heyyyy, it's been so long since I went to a con in person, I forgot that con reports are a thing! Thank you to [personal profile] the_shoshanna for reminding me.

No fun was had! (just kidding )

Day 18, for [personal profile] aurumcalendula: Favorite vid you've made or favorite source you've vidded?

As the lovely person who asked this question knows, it's like choosing amongst your children. I haven't made a vid since 2019, so the usual "the last one I made is my favorite" rule doesn't apply. I've got three I'm thinking of that check the "it was exactly what I wanted it to be" box, and they're all for fandoms dear to my heart (Highlander, Jeremiah, 12 Monkeys), so I kind of have to throw a dart at the wall. But, I'll go with "Let the Day Begin," a Highlander ensemble vid I made in 2015.

Highlander is still the fandom of my heart, and this vid was basically that feeling in vid form. Nothing fancy, just my love for the show and the characters. It edged out the other two because I have such fond memories of polling the electorate for favorite scenes for some of the secondary and tertiary characters. It's my love letter to the show, but even more so, to the fandom.

Thank you for the indulgent question. ♥

Edit: ALL FOUND, thank you all so much.

Hello friends! Do any of you happen to have any of Fabella's (aka wistful_fever's) Supernatural vids saved? I have the one called "Your Own Personal Codependent Wet Dream," XD but I'm looking for any others. Please let me know if you have any files you can share? Thank you! (Not for public posting, just for preserving.)

The Escapade vid show was all I could handle, vid-wise, the last few weeks, so I didn't end up doing this—but wow, it looks amazing. (And me snowed in, with the Escapade show in the can unexpectedly ahead of schedule. :D)

Feels like it lately, anyway! The deadline for Escapade vid show submissions is this Sunday, February 3rd, at midnight PST. We've got a great show coming together, but there's room for more. Festivids welcome, and if you want to submit them before reveals, I will keep them secret.

I want so much to sign up for the Equinox exchange this round, because the theme is the 90s. But I have my own Escapade premiere to finish, and [personal profile] destina bought me in the Vidukon auction (*Kermit hands!!*), so I have prior commitments. Going to be keeping an eye on treat possibilities, though.

In the meantime, have some wholehearted Festivids recs!

Woo Hoo! for Rokikurama
Fandom: Archer
LOLLLLL. I love this stupid(smart) show so much. And I think this vid will make you laugh even if you have no idea what's going on. Brilliant. The perfect storm of dadaism encompassed by the song+Archer is amazing. (The slap fights. On the drum solo. :D :D)

(Don't See) Too Many Rivals Now for absternr
Fandom: Ocean's 8
UGGGHHH I love this. Dessa! ♥ ♥ (I'm currently reading her book for the second time due to the kind generosity of [personal profile] ride_4ever) I love this so much that I'm wondering if one of my favorite vidders made it—if it turns out this was made by someone I don't already know, I'll be haunting them henceforth. (What I especially love is the attention to facial expressions, gestures, and expressive vocalizations in the song.)

Hey, Brother for dirty_diana
Fandom: Longmire
I haven't seen any recs for this one yet, probably because it's a small fandom, but it's beautiful, and completely accessible even if you don't know the fandom. Warnings for some tough material, though, including child death. But, gorgeousness.

smile (the worst is yet to come) for CherryIce
Fandom: Dead Like Me
This was the first one of the collection I watched, because I adore DLM, and it did not disappoint in any way. Beauty.

Crazy, Classic, Life for eruthros
Fandom: Pose
Everyone is reccing this, for good reason.

Lift for such_heights
Fandom: Ocean's 8
I love instrumental vids, and I loved this one more than I did the movie, which says a lot.

Breaking the Habit for eruthros
Fandom: My Cat from Hell
Just, awwwwwwww. ♥ ♥ I really appreciated the vidder's disclaimer, that all cats would be happy by the end.

The auction ends at 12 noon Pacific, or 3PM Eastern. I thought of some more fandoms I should have offered, like Treme (would love it!), The Orville (I would love to do a funny vid to this), Jeremiah, obviously (I assumed no one would ask for that, but why assume?) and I imagine there are some others, because wow, I've been in fandom a long time. So if in doubt, don't hesitate to ask.
killabeez: (Arthur/Merlin armor)
And, eep, I put myself up for bidding. I'm really taking this "more fannish creative output" resolution seriously.

Look at all these fantastic vidders! Must remember I can't bid. No, clicky finger. Bad clicky finger.
killabeez: (Arthur/Merlin armor)
The Escapade vid show would love to show your premiering or 2018 vids!

Each individual vidder may submit up to three vids on which they have participated, whether solo or as part of a group. Vids premiering at Escapade will take precedence over vids that have shown at other cons or been posted online.

ETA: No, you don't have to attend to submit a vid, and if you're wondering what's popular this year, the top fandoms by panel vote were:
  • Marvelverse (MCU and TV, including Venom, Deadpool, streaming shows, etc.)
  • Holmes fandoms
  • Star Trek
  • Dr. Who
  • Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
The vid submission deadline is February 3, 2019 at 12 midnight PST! Read More Here

Eek, I signed up for [livejournal.com profile] salt_burn_porn. It's a 24-hour instant porn challenge, and although that always sounds terrifying, I've had good luck with it so far. Apparently not having time to overthink is a good thing?

Does anyone else have trouble writing a new story or starting a new vid when you have one that you haven't posted yet? I always have trouble with this! I like to work on one thing at a time, and it doesn't feel "done" until it's posted. I have a few different Highlander-ish things I want to work on, but I'm having trouble getting started because [community profile] hlh_shortcuts reveals haven't happened yet. It's a weird mental block. But I did finish a little vid project last night, so maybe I can start on the one I want to do for TGIF/F. If I can find hard drive space, oy.
killabeez: (kitties snuggle)
While I don't have a single fandom that's lighting up my brain right now, I have been feeling a lot more fannish in the last month. I think it's because I've (crosses everything) not had a lot of major stress, and I've actually had a little down time. (What even is that?) I had a LOT to accomplish in December in terms of work, family, friends, house management, promised obligations, etc., and accomplished it all. Nothing stimulates my creativity like accomplishment of RL goals! And for those who read my 2018 in review and the bit about being fired by one of my clients—on the 27th, I got an email from another favorite long-term client (whom I lost in 2016 due to budgeting) letting me know that she's been fighting for me for the last two years (I hadn't heard from her in all that time), and finally succeeded in getting me back into her budget for 2019. So, yay!

Long way of saying, I was thinking about doing the snowflake challenge, but then realized that both TGIF/F and Escapade have vid show deadlines coming up Very Soon, and that maaaaybe I could finish a vid for both. So, yeah! Yay, vidding. I hope. And maybe even some writing.

Carry on. I've been loving seeing this place more active. ♥

Cherry and Sisabet inspired me to try and put together a thumb drive of all my vids. (Considering that I've been vidding since 1999, and have never tried to find all of them at once, this is possibly optimistic.) If I'm able to make it happen, I'll sell the thumb drives for cost ($5) —but if you have a thumb drive and want to grab them from me at some point during the weekend, let me know and I'll make an effort to connect with you? Likewise if you want me to bring you one. I think they should all fit on an 8GB drive—I hope.
killabeez: (dutch smirk)
...sometimes! By no small miracle, I finished a vid for the VividCon "From There to Here" show yesterday. Let's just say that, despite my best intentions, the odds of that happening were not good. But [livejournal.com profile] destina held my hand via text message and we vidded together most of the afternoon, and it was wonderful! And then she showed me one of her premiering vids and it was so spectacular that it lit my brain on fire and I finished my own vid in record time. Phew! I've been thinking about this vid for two years or so, and it's a relief to have it finally exist.

One show I didn't even consider making a vid for is "Self-Portrait," though I can't wait to see what people came up with. I think my life has been in such flux, and I've avoided thinking about myself for so long, that I couldn't even imagine what I'd say. But out of idle curiosity, I've been trying to figure out what source I would use to try and vid a self-portrait. Mad Men is the only show that sort of shows what my work life is like, but, eh, I don't really identify with my work that closely. Lately, with seven women in the house and most of us poly, The L-Word is probably more accurate—but, ugh, problematic. I'd like to say Sense8. Well, it's something to aspire to! And I do identify with Riley (and Amanita) to the point that it's painful. So, yeah, maybe Sense8.

What about you? If you were to vid a self-portrait, what show or movie would you choose? Or did you? :)
killabeez: (kitty is pleased)
If you are a vidder who would be willing to support a fan-run convention by making a custom vid as a crowd-funding perk, please email me. And know that the fandom gods and goddesses smile upon you. ♥
killabeez: (Penny Magicians)
You ever write a story or make a vid where you thought it was about one thing (say, some gal pals who just happen to be really gay for each other), and then you see it again like a year later and you realize you were writing or vidding the essential truth of your life without knowing it?

Or, you ever have a fandom that totally crosses your NEVER EVER EVER YOU ARE DEAD TO ME boundaries repeatedly, and yet you come back for more anyway? And like it?

Sigh. Fangirl problems.
killabeez: (Penny Magicians)
Activism seems to be my primary fandom these days, but I felt a little of my old fannish self stir to life when I realized that The Magicians returns on Syfy tonight. I confess, I'm nervous about where season 2 will go, and whether I'll come to regret my attachment to this show, but as I was reading the aforelinked article, I came across this:

The show’s recurring cast in season two includes a talking sloth.

Talking sloth! :D :D :D Recurring cast!

So, there's that. And, yeah, I am looking forward to seeing my Brakebills peeps again.

In other news, I don't think it's been posted officially yet, but I believe the vid show submission deadline for Escapade is going to be midnight PST, on February 5th. Please consider making a vid for (or submitting a recent one to) the show! And pass it on, especially on Twitter, since...yeah.
killabeez: (Bo Kenzi)
Ugh, I am stuck in the doldrums. I have a song that I know is right; I have a pairing I love; I have a source fandom that... I don't really know very well, and there's a fair amount of it, and I also feel that no one cares about my pairing but me. That last part is why I want to make the vid. But... ugh, so much source. *stabs it*

Day 09 - Set some goals for the coming year.

The last few years have been stupidly, crazily stressful. I guess I can only do my best to try and believe that this year will be better. Just the thought of setting goals is making me nervous, as if I'm tempting fate, but since my S.O. challenged me a few days ago to make some, I'm going to try.

Non-fannish goals:
1. Exercise more. At least four days a week, some kind of dedicated exercise time. (Right now I'm on a Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday schedule. Add Friday when possible.)
2. Get outside more. At least one of those four days must be outside.
3. Have more fun. Put work down on the weekends.
4. Write letters.
5. Organize my kitchen.
6. Spring container garden. (see 2. and 3.)
7. Re-learn how to sew well enough to make a costume for Halloween (if not Club Vivid).

Fannish goals:
1. Finish one of my long Highlander WIPs. Pick one and get it done.
2. Leave more feedback. Put down the kudos button.
3. Finish a vid for Escapade. This is the hardest one, as I'm really not making progress on the one I thought I would make. Decide this weekend what I'm doing about that.
4. Take a shot at writing the Angel/Spike/Buffy post-series story that is lurking about my hard drive. I recently read what's there and it doesn't suck.
5. If that doesn't go, then the Jeremiah post-series story that I always mean to drag out at Yuletide and never do.

And on that note, I'm off to the gym. :)
