Catching up on The Voice, and there's a dude on here (Jack Cassidy, bless his heart) who sings the way I write sometimes, where I think I am maybe skating the edge of greatness, writing without a filter and letting it all hang out, but in actuality I just need to be patted on the head and sent home. ♥

I was just thinking about this the other day, that zone you get in where you're like, fuck it, I'm gonna stop self-censoring and just write what I feel, this is amazing, and then later you're like, WTF WAS THAT METAPHOR? I DIE OF EMBARRASSMENT.

To deviate from Haven for a moment, I am so very, very excited about this season of The Voice. (Thank you again to [livejournal.com profile] anoel for getting me hooked on this show!) After only two nights of blind auditions, they've got at least half a dozen singers I'm really excited to hear and see more of—but most of all, the gloriously gorgeous Tessanne Chin.

When she says, "Thank you, Mr. CeeLo, I am a grown woman," I think I lose half my IQ points. I'm so glad that she came to this show, because reggae is the one genre of music I really don't listen to by choice, so I probably never would have heard of her if she hadn't. (I think Adam Levine about had an orgasm when she chose him. So cute.)

I mean, just look at her.

ETA: p.s., if you're in the mood to cry happy tears, watch Holly Henry sing—not because she's lovely, though she is, but to see her little brother cry. I dare you not to cry. I dare you!

Jackpot.

Y'all, I haven't told anyone (except some pals at SparkPeople) about the week I had last week, but suffice it to say cut for health blah, the short version )—I really needed something nice this week, and holy crap, did I get it.

Over at [livejournal.com profile] ohsam, they are doing a "Triple play" challenge, where you leave a three-part prompt, then an artist makes art, then a writer writes short fic for the art. I love that it's specifically (but not exclusively) geared toward artists, and I kind of went nuts over there last night leaving prompts.

I hit the jackpot! Check out the amazing, beautiful results of three of my prompts (all hurt!Sam):

Snow! by [livejournal.com profile] a_starfish (prompt: a snowbound cabin by a frozen lake, with Dean and involving frostbite/hypothermia)

Coulrophobia by [livejournal.com profile] reggie11 (prompt: Abandoned/ruined amusement park, with John, Dean, Kevin, or Bobby, your choice, and truly terrifying/vicious carnivorous clowns, bite wounds)

with this awesome, perfect accompanying fic:

Killer Clowns by [livejournal.com profile] tifaching

and the ethereally beautiful, breathtaking Crucified by [livejournal.com profile] quickreaver (prompt: Abandoned, crumbling church or monastery, with Castiel, and crucifixion wounds.)

ETA: This one has a story now! Heavenly Father by [livejournal.com profile] center_galaxy. I feel like it's my birthday.

Also of cheering effect today: this cracktastic promotional video for The Voice S5.

*facepalm*

So, there's this whole thing where, in a vulnerable moment, [livejournal.com profile] anoel got me hopelessly hooked on the U.S. version of The Voice. Season 4 is winding up to conclusion, and I'm really invested in a young woman named Michelle Chamuel. (I think she's the only one of the last five who has a chance of beating Danielle Bradbery—though Danielle is my second choice, so that's okay!)

Anyway, last week she did an amazing cover of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble." (also on YouTube) And now I rather desperately want a Haven vid to her version of this song—the matching pair to [livejournal.com profile] greensilver's "Trouble for Me." Only this one should be from Duke's POV—OF COURSE. Sadly, I don't know if anyone could do it justice other than [livejournal.com profile] greensilver herself, so I am probably doomed to pining hopelessly. Sigh.

Plants!

You guys, I had so much fun this afternoon. I took off early from work, went to the garden shop, and bought a bazillion plants for my tiny balcony. I've had empty planters, pots, dirt, and compost sitting there for a month, but couldn't get to it before now—I was worried there wouldn't even be herbs left to buy! But there were, and I planted them, and man, I have such a black thumb, you don't even know. Like, everyone else in my immediate and extended family is a master gardener, and I can't keep a houseplant. Also, it's plain from my little bit of herb gardening that I'll never be a gardener, unless one day I have surgery on my back or something. It is hard on the back, man. But I don't even care about the pain, because, plants! And the parsley, which was so sad and bedraggled by the time I got it home, perked up in the sunshine and fresh water, and now it's all curly and perky!

I hope it lives. Please, little plants, don't die on me! I admire all of you who garden successfully so much. It is truly an awesome feeling, putting little plants in the dirt. Go, little plants, go! Now, I need something (flowers?) to plant in my one planter that's in the shade. Thoughts?

In other news, I am watching very little these days. But [livejournal.com profile] anoel got me hooked on The Voice, and I am watching all of the seasons obsessively. Right now I've gone back to S1, and am loving it.

cut for S4 spoilers from last night )

In other other news, fellow Haven fans please check out this post: Haven Fic Exchange 2013 - Poll & Brainstorming. Excitement is ramping up for Haven S4 as the crew has started filming, and a fic exchange seems like a fabulous idea! Especially because someone else is stepping up to run it. ♥
