| ベッセント | All of the above, Becky. The, but you know, what I really watch is how the U.S. economy is doing. And the economic numbers have been strong. We had manufacturing ISM, strongest since 2022 when we came out of COVID, and manufacturing is back in the U.S. We are seeing substantial nonresidential building going on. So those are construction jobs. As Andrew asked the professor from Notre Dame earlier, is this temporary or is it sustainable? And you know what I would say with overall manufacturing, if I look at my hometown, Charleston, South Carolina, Boeing is doing a 50 percent increase in their production there. So those are construction jobs, but those are going to morph into 1,000 great, high-paying industrial jobs. So, we're seeing this manufacturing renaissance happen. |
| カーネン | You know what wouldn't help the yen is if Warsh and co. raised rates in September. I just wonder whether that, should we be thinking, should we be thinking about that? And just opine on what you saw at the last meeting, the lack of, you know, the lack of any sort of guidance and the criticism about no transparency and we don't know what the roadmaps are. And we don't, we don't need a cheat sheet on the test, but we need to know what's going to be covered in the test. And it's causing volatility in the bond market because of a 13-basis point move. What do you make of all that, Mr. Secretary? |
| ベッセント | Well, Joe, you know, I think of this as a detox that the, both the financial markets, financial journalists, the, no one on this screen, but many others, especially the— | そうですね、ジョー。
| ベッセント | Especially in print, had just become stenographers. And same for many of the Wall Street firms. Look, I began with Wall Street in 1984, and you didn't, you never knew what the Fed was going to do, and you had to be positioned accordingly. And you actually had to do your own work. And, you know, I think we are seeing a detox here and all this with forward guidance that I think every meeting should be live and that market participants should make their own judgments. |
| ベッセント | Because I can tell you, Joe, in my opinion, what caused the Great Inflation, the Fed was late raising rates. But the reason they were raising rates is that November of '21 was clear that the economy was hot and the Fed needed to do something, but they kept Q.E. going the, until the month before they started hiking rates. So, they were buying hundreds of billions of dollars of bonds. And that was because they felt locked in with forward guidance. So, I think Chair Warsh wants to maintain optionality for optimal outcomes, and I am sure that under his leadership, the Fed will balance between their growth mandate and their inflation mandate. |
| カーネン | There is a lot of question, though, of how to orchestrate a stand pat on rates for the chairman with the economy you described. I mean, if you, you know, back out all the imports of infrastructure for A.I., what's that other, that other number was 3.9 or something, I think, wasn't it for, for prices, charge. I mean, that's strong. Inflation is still above target. Will the promise of A.I. in terms of productivity, will that arrive quickly enough for Chair Warsh to bring down the inflation rate in a way other than trying to slow the economy with higher rates? |
| ベッセント | Well, I think we have to look and think, what does an increase in the short-term rate actually do? So, we'll see on that. But the other thing too is I think that there are a lot of short-term indicators here, much of it energy-related, that will work its way through the system. When energy, when we had the MOU with the Iranians in early June, you know, from June, for the June inflation numbers, we saw one of the biggest drops in years. So, you know, there's a very noisy component in there. But what gives me the confidence is that the underlying numbers, they are very tame. So, core inflation away from the fast-moving segments that are impacted by energy have been very quiescent. And I think we're going to continue to see that. |
| クイック | Secretary Bessent, just, we've been watching the A.I. trade so closely, and there are some people, including Steve Eisman, who was with us last week, who said he thinks everything is an A.I. trade right now, and it's either going to go very well or very badly, depending on how that shakes out. He related it through to companies even like Caterpillar, which, by the way, is up more than eight percent this morning on stronger than anticipated earnings. But it's been down over the last month as people worried about whether the A.I. trade could continue. Everything in A.I. is related pretty closely to interest rates. If interest rates rise and it's harder to get debt or it's more expensive to get debt as a result, and that data boom and the rest of it kind of slows down, do you think that impacts the overall economy in a big way, or do you think that's more of a market play? |
| ベッセント | Well, Becky, we've seen interest rates rise and we've seen no letup in this A.I. CapEx. And look, I like Steve, but I think that categorically, to categorically say that everything's an A.I. trade is an incomplete thought that I think the underlying dynamics of the economy are very strong. And I, one thing that is very interesting to me is we are seeing this small business formation, and we can see it as we talk to the nation's banks, as we see the filings at the IRS. And for new start-ups, we are seeing like this big main street and small business revival, and I think a lot of that may be due to A.I. "Wall Street Journal" had an interesting story, I believe it was last week or the week before that said, you're seeing the rise of the one-person startup, and a lot of that is A.I.-enabled. And the professor from Notre Dame was talking about, what we are seeing in terms of A.I. implementation. And I'm old enough to remember what happened in the '90s when we saw the office tech boom, and you saw this whole cottage industry spring up that didn't previously exist of, I think they were called system integrators. And they were bringing, you know, the office modernization revolution into both small, medium and large businesses. And I would expect we could see a boom in that, the, over the coming years.
We're actually gonna keep this interview going for about five days. FaceTime, Fred, and one more interview with one more Rolling Stone writer in a car, and, yeah, that's right. That's nice of thing I've ever heard. Thank you. Oh, you're welcome. Yeah. Um, let's start from the very, very beginning. Now, do you remember when David Foster Wallace's name first registered with you, like when you knew who he was?

But anyway, he was a guy who was just so forward seeing about what technology was going to become, and these things that were meant to connect us were ultimately going to dehumanize interaction. But that section in particular was about how everyone's so excited when video chat became available, but then there was realization that they can no longer do other things while they're talking to somebody.

⸻
these things that were meant to connect us
were ultimately going to dehumanize interaction
they can no longer do other things while they’re talking to somebody
connect us, we're ultimately going to dehumanize interaction. But that section in particular was about how everyone's so excited when video chat becomes available, but then they have this realization that they can no longer do other things while they're talking to somebody because they can see them. And it evolves to people creating elaborate masks and dioramas so it looks like they're giving full attention until eventually they've taped off the camera and they're back to the auditory phone conversation. So the first thing that I read, and I supposedly something will never do again, which is called shiva, at one point. A lot of the short form fiction I had and tried to tackle. No, it's a mountain rest. It's something that definitely requires time and effort to tackle. Well worth it, I think, but. Oh, I think that by the end it is the most satisfying experience you can have, and I think that there's something that he tries to remind us that we're capable. You know, you're sort of given this very subtle and sometimes not so subtle message that what you're good at is watching TV. No, really, like that what is a good life culturally is to work really hard so that you can come home and crack open a beer and watch reality TV on a big giant television, and that that should satisfy you. And it's no wonder that we feel dissatisfied, I guess. And so my experience with reading Infinite Jest was by the time I finished it, I really felt like, I feel like how you feel after you go for like a long jog. I don't really know what that's like, but. But then told, you feel like, oh, I did that. So, prior to going on this long jog, you're sitting at home with a script.

I was at an airport. I was in an airport flying to Boston, and I remember it really distinctly. So, to set up where I was when I got the script, because I think it's an important part of the story. I was feeling, I was at a point where it was the last season of my TV show, and I was also, I was 34 years old. Maybe I was 33 when I got the script. And Forgetting Sarah Marshall is really an honest reflection of where I was at 24. You know, that is, I mean, that is really like, I'm really proud of it. That is what I was thinking about, and it is those times when a breakup with the girl you think you're gonna marry is devastating. The world is ending, you know what I mean? You call it the breakup, because the only one cares. Like, and a fire makes it a whole different thing. Yeah, yeah, you know, because that's what it is in your mind. It's like, the breakup. But what I had found was, I think by nature of the way the business works, by nature of doing big movies, you, you're encouraged in a lot of different ways to continue to do what has been successful. So I did a lot of movies that were sort of in that realm, or sort of felt that way. And by the time I was 33, I was starting to feel like my interior life wasn't matching up with what I was putting on screen. I was feeling a real pull. And that's not a good feeling when you write your own material, and when you, you know, I try to, a lot of different types of acting, but I kind of try to, to a submersion, being a surrogate, like, I am you for the next hour and a half. Do you feel this way too? So I put out into the ether, like, a decision. I wanted to do something different. I needed to make a change. If I'm gonna do this for 50 more years, if I'm lucky, it needs to be stuff that is reflective of how I'm, I'm in the airport, and this script arrives, and I read it on the plane. And I thought, this is really cool you sent this to me.

And I landed and I called my agent. I said, yes, this is the type of material that I'd like to do. But, you know, maybe if someday they'll let me do this kind of stuff. And she said, no, James Ponsoldt, the director, wants to talk to you about it because he thinks that you might be able to do it. And there was a line in that script that I almost like cried on the airplane, which was uncomfortable because there was a little person next to me who was a stranger. You've been full frontal naked on screen, but you were uncomfortable crying on a plane? Oh, I had a bad experience, and that's a short tangent that probably, but one time, I think it was due to the altitude, I was watching a movie on the plane, and I started crying like really hard. I think a good way of putting it is disproportionate to the occasion. And the woman next to me looked over at me like, is he okay? And then she like peeked over to look at what I was watching. It was Dreamgirls.

Ukrainian special forces carried out an incredible operation — they allegedly stole several fully fueled and armed combat aircraft directly from Russian airfields. HUR pilots stormed the parking areas, neutralized security, and flew the aircraft to Ukraine.
Impressive footage has already appeared: Russian Su-34s and bombers with Russian markings are seen landing at Ukrainian airfields under the escort of Ukrainian fighter jets.
Russian sources reported that, over time, 59 aircraft and helicopters were stolen, with some of them ending up in Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian outlet Izvestia, adding that some of the aircraft were later used in the war on Ukraine’s side against Russia itself. Because of this, the FSB has reportedly carried out a series of searches within Rosaviatsia as part of related criminal investigations.
According to Rosaviatsia, 36 out of the 59 aircraft disappeared in connection with being sold abroad. Of these, eight were sold to countries considered “unfriendly” by the aggressor. And these are only the confirmed cases — the ones the Kremlin allowed to be made public.
“Three Mi-8 helicopters later took part in the war on Ukraine’s side, while Il-76 aircraft transported cargo with their transponders turned off, concealing information about their movements,” Russian media also report.
It is also known that recently in Russia a Mi-8 helicopter simply disappeared during a training flight over a lake. There were three crew members on board.
Thus, the number of cases involving aircraft being transferred to Ukraine together with their crews is likely much higher than what Russian media are allowed to report.

OK I give up, I have no clue how the Ukrainians pulled this off. From the sound of this Putin is apparently giving Ukraine more aircraft than Trump. Truly amazing.

The Izvestia report refers mainly to civilian aircraft transfers and ownership disputes, not commando raids. Your story wildly exaggerates and conflates two unrelated issues: missing/sold civilian aircraft

本体は derived moduli stack of quantum field theoriesだ。
∞-category of QFTs になる。
3. supersymmetry emergence
1. elliptic cohomology
3. worldline → worldsheet categorification

The image features a woman sitting with a dog, looking at her smartphone. A speech bubble with a yen symbol is near her head. The main text reads: "Borrow a little from ¥5,000" and "Maximum 1 month effective interest ¥0". At the bottom, there are two bullet points: "Merpay Co., Ltd." and "Registration number: Tokyo Governor (2) No. 31825".
Looking at the number of people on subreddits where Japanese is used or where there are many Japanese people, based on Japan's population of 120 million, we can say that less than 0.01% of Japanese people use Reddit. This is considered very low compared to other countries.
Why do you think this is the case?
Is it because most Japanese are too old to use Reddit? Is it because other social networking sites already dominate the Japanese interest? Is it because Reddit's rules and atmosphere do not match Japanese values? I look forward to your opinions!
Inflation of the number of infections prevented by COVID-19 vaccination in Kayano et al.'s paper
Kakeya, Hideki
https://zenodo.org/records/17114687
Combined Adaptive Immune Mechanisms Mediate Cardiac Injury After COVID-19 Vaccination
Circulation Volume 152, Number 21
https://www.ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/CIRCULATIONAHA.125.074644

Will Germany ever escape its economic crisis? | DW News
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llK0YRvmIng
“We just don’t have enough hours worked… We don’t have enough workforce.”
“China… is catching up, overtaking us.”
“The automotive industry… switched too late.”
“Consumers are more scared… cautious.”
“We just don’t have enough labor.”
“The number of hours worked in Germany is too low.”
“Germany has lost price competitiveness.”
“We missed the signal… combustion engines are not the future.”
“Funds are being used to cater to voter clientele.”
“Not used for long-term productive investment.”
“We need to become a country more open to immigration.”
