This cosmic horror point-and-click was released in two "seasons" of four episodes each, which I believe were produced as Kickstarter funding allowed. The two seasons together comprise a complete story.

Set in Victorian Britain, Season One follows Jeremiah Devitt, an alumnus of a remote boarding school where he belonged to a secret society performing occult experiments. As an adult, he receives a cryptic letter from a former classmate, but by the time he arrives, the classmate has died by suicide, prompting Devitt to investigate. Season Two follows Devitt's psychiatrist Dr. Wakefield, now investigating his patient's mysterious disappearance and the true nature of the secret society and the hidden reality it has uncovered.

This one is sleep-with-the-lights-on scary. Lots of suspenseful sequences and expertly timed jump-scares. Something horror games can do that horror movies can't is to make you decide to keep walking further into the dark hallway where the creepy voice is coming from, and this game really leans into that. There were many moments when I found myself creeping forward inch by inch, dreading what was coming but knowing I had no choice but to press on. I loved it.

If you really want to be scared this spooky season, I highly recommend The Last Door. It's available on Steam (Season One, Season Two) for $9.99 USD per season, but GOG (Season One, Season Two) currently has both seasons on sale for $3.49 USD each.

In this fantasy point-and-click adventure from German studio Daedelic, you play as the appropriately-named Sadwick, a depressed young clown in a traveling circus. Sadwick has recurring nightmares about the end of the world (relatable), and when he tries to talk to others about it, they react with either self-absorbed denial or apathetic agreement that the world is doomed and there's nothing anyone can do about it (also relatable).

I didn't know this was a documentary

Accompanied by his pet, a shapeshifting caterpillar named Spot, Sadwick nonetheless sets out on an underdog's quest to save the world, as one does in these settings. But when he meets the requisite mystical prophet who reveals his destiny, she says he's destined to be the one to destroy the world, not save it. Uh-oh.

I knew going in that this was a polarizing title among adventure game fans, with some hailing it as one of the best modern adventures ('modern' in that it came out well after the genre's peak in the '90s) and others calling it overrated and deeply flawed. I can kind of see both sides.

The Whispered World: Special Edition is available on Steam and GOG. The list price is $19.99 USD, but Steam currently has it on sale for $1.99 USD until July 25th, so if you want to add it to your collection, now is a good time.

Edutainment didn't end in the '90s, and it's not just for kids! Euclidea is a game that teaches ruler-and-compass geometric constructions by presenting them as a series of puzzles of increasing difficulty.

The cool thing about this is that it gives you a sense of what it's like to discover geometry rather than just being given the answers to memorize. I was never good at math in school, but I think the main problem was that it wasn't taught in a way I could understand, and when I fell behind nobody helped me catch up. I enjoy playing Euclidea because I feel like I'm developing my own intuition and understanding. There are dozens of puzzles in the game, plus opportunities to maximize your score by completing the construction in as few moves as possible, so even if you remember the basics you'll probably still find something to challenge you.

Euclidea is free to play on Android, iOS, or in your browser. There are no ads, but you can pay $0.99 USD to unlock new levels before you've fully completed previous ones, or to access hints.

And that's my last entry for Edutainment Month! I had fun with it, and I hope at least some of you did too. :)
