Looking at all the gem-themed
sunshine_challenge prompts I missed while I was on vacation, all I could think of was a heavily gem-themed game from my childhood that I recently replayed (sort of—more on that later), The Legend of Kyrandia. I think every one of the prompted gems appears somewhere in this game, so I'll call this my response to all the rest of the prompts I didn't get to!

This is a 2D point and click adventure game with the most generic fantasy plot you can imagine. You play as Brandon, a humble young man raised by his grandfather after his parents died under mysterious circumstances. When an evil magician who was imprisoned years ago breaks free and turns his grandfather to stone, Brandon must go on a quest to save him, discovering along the way that he himself is the Chosen One with the power to beat the bad guy and restore the kingdom. Seriously, it plays like the devs had The Hero with a Thousand Faces open in their laps the entire time they were making this game.
( But despite the predictable story, Kyrandia has a lot going for it... )
