pauraque: Michael and Mirror Philippa face off (st michael & philippa)
I recently joined a ST:DIS discord server where it was decided that there would be a fun little Disco exchange, creatively entitled A Fun Little Disco Exchange. I was surprised and delighted to receive five amazing gifts:

Everything will be the way it was (E, Michael Burnham/Mirror Philippa Georgiou, 2538 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] AliceInKinkland
Michael is pretending to be the Emperor's daughter—so why did Georgiou just kiss her? (Why, despite her terror and guilt, did Michael like it so much?)

Mother May I Play With Knives (M, Michael Burnham/Mirror Philippa Georgiou, 300 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] AudreyV
When Georgiou walked into her quarters, she was surprised to find Michael there, staring out the viewport. It was bold of Michael to let herself into Georgiou's private space, but Georgiou appreciated boldness.

Assurance (T, Michael Burnham/Philippa Georgiou, 366 words) by [archiveofourown.org profile] team_turtleneck
Michael wanted to ask Philippa for what she needed.

Small Gestures (G, Michael Burnham & Nyota Uhura, 300 words) by [personal profile] cleo
Michael looked up to see a cadet in red--she wasn't sure when she was going to get used to the new uniforms and that particular color change, but this woman wore it well--standing with her hands clasped behind her back.

To the Waters and the Wild (T, Me Hani Ika Hali Ka Po/Sylvia Tilly, 100 words) by [personal profile] glassesofjustice
Tilly ponders the mysteries of Po.

Unfortunately, I only had time to write my assignment and nothing else, and here it is:

Relinquished (E, Michael Burnham/Mirror Philippa Georgiou, 1090 words) by me
It is not on the throne, but in a much humbler position, that Philippa learns there are kinds of power that cannot be taken—only given.
pauraque: Kirk and Spock walk near the Golden Gate Bridge (st san francisco)
[community profile] space_swap creators have been revealed! I received two fantastic gifts, both of which fall squarely in the category of "if I don't request this again, it's only because I already got exactly what I wanted for it":

Hello, [community profile] space_swap author! Thanks for writing for me.

I've included prompts for everything I requested in case you're looking for ideas, but if you have something else in mind, go for it. I have pretty broad tastes in fic and I'm open to whatever you want to write as long as it doesn't hit my DNWs. Any rating is fine. If we matched on a romantic ship, feel free to write smut, but I would be perfectly happy to get a G-rated fic too! Fandoms, prompts, and tags are in no particular order.

I am way behind on everything (yes, everything--I really don't think there's a single area of life where I'm actually caught up) and I know I owe replies to a lot of people. I'll get there, I promise!

But first, [community profile] startrekholidays reveals happened, so let's start there. I received this fantastic gift:

The Reflection (1703 words) by NervousAsexual
Fandom: Star Trek: The Original Series
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Character: Romulan Commander (Star Trek TOS: Balance of Terror)
Additional Tags: Canon-Typical Violence, Canonical Character Death, References to Depression, Questioning Authority, Romulans, Episode: s01e15 Balance of Terror
Summary: A reflection, the crew said. Another Tellus, following along on the other side of the bent light, tracing every move they made. Maybe so.

I was surprised and delighted to get fic for my most longshot request, and it's so good! A thoughtful study of one of the most compelling one-off characters from TOS, perfectly capturing his strange melancholy and the curious bond of respect between him and the mysterious "human commander" of the Enterprise. Go read it and give the author love!

Since I didn't end up having time to treat in [community profile] yuletide, this was my last fest fic for 2020. Phew! I signed up for a lot this year, especially towards the end. A year-end fic roundup post will be coming soon.

Thank you for writing for me!

I wrote a lot here in case you're looking for ideas, but I'm really very easygoing and open to many different kinds of stories, so please don't feel like you're limited to only my suggestions. I like gen fic as well as pairings and threesomes of all categories. I like G-rated or fade-to-black fic as well as smutty or kinky fic. I like fic that's light or funny as well as fic that's serious or dark (or dark and funny!). Unusual structures and styles are fine by me (first person POV, second person POV, nonlinear, experimental, etc.) but more conventional storytelling works great too. You can't go wrong just writing what interests you and whatever feels natural for your writing style. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

It's 15 days too late for this, which is just about how behind I am on everything else at this point, so at least I'm consistent? /o\

I wrote a lot of fic this past year, mostly for fests. Well... all for fests, actually, or at least for things with deadlines. Not coincidental, that. Towards the end of the year I bit off more than I could chew and did have to drop out of one fest, which was a first for me, and a bummer. Next year, more realistic scheduling! But according to AO3, I wrote about 30,000 words in 2013, which is a bit more than in any past year, including years in which my fandoms were much more active.

Harry Potter )

Star Trek )

Warcraft )

I'm going to be bold and say that most of these were solid stories that I'm proud of. It was flattering and encouraging this year to be invited to write at [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant and to win/place in a couple of categories at [livejournal.com profile] hpfanficfanpoll. I hope this doesn't sound stupid or vain, but what I really want out of writing is to give other people enjoyment, and when I meet that goal it makes me happy.

Onward!
pauraque: patterned brown and white bird flying on a pale blue background (Default)
Oh man, I haven't posted in a while, have I? Real life was doing a number on me, not in a bad way, just in a busy way. I am going to get to all those December meme prompts, too, but first... the Kinky Kristmas reveals post is up at [insanejournal.com profile] daily_deviant, so I can say that I wrote this, to [personal profile] songquake's delicious prompts:

Pomona Sprout and the Five Points from Hufflepuff [AO3]
(NC-17, school-age-but-probably-legal Pomona/Minerva, kinks including tickling, teasing, and embarrassment)

Speaking of which, I found an embarrassment of riches in my [community profile] fandom_stocking! There seems to be a glitch right now where I can't comment there without it being screened, but rest assured I love my gifts and deeply appreciate everyone who took the time to make something for me, including but not limited to:

- State-Transition Function by [personal profile] sineala (ST:TOS, Uhura gen with linguistics!)
- Your Move by [personal profile] moontyger (WoW, Anduin/Wrathion with UST!)
- For the Horde by [personal profile] walgesang (WoW, Thrall & Vol'jin gen with barely-subtextual D/s!)
- An Introduction by [personal profile] smallbrownfrog (HP, Luna/Minerva pre-femslash with Gilbert & Sullivan references!)
- Outstanding by [personal profile] chokolattejedi (HP, Hermione/Septima with power play!)
- Krycek and Scully art from [personal profile] ani_bester and another Krycek art from [personal profile] tarlanx! *rolls around in XF nostalgia*
- Uhura art from [personal profile] trobadora! Uhura! ♥♥♥

I really meant to do all kinds of things for this fest, but what actually happened was I signed up for it and then promptly forgot about it until the deadline had, in fact, passed. I suck, I know. Next year I'll do better. But due to the technical problems that delayed the fest going live, I managed a few icons for people, at least, and one ficlet, which is so tailored to [personal profile] walgesang's interests that it might be incomprehensible to anyone else, but here it is anyway:

The Terrible Secret of Warsong Gulch
(G, Venture Bros., 21 & 24 friendship)
pauraque: patterned brown and white bird flying on a pale blue background (Default)
Since it's the last day of [community profile] kink_bingo and the last day of Rectober (whoever decided that was a thing... I never quite figured that out), here, have some KB recs.

Harry Potter
Schoolboy Blues by [personal profile] delphi (Explicit, Snape/Filch, kink: class fantasies)
author's summary: Severus Snape knows every shortcut at St. Brutus's Secure Centre for Incurably Criminal Boys, including a few of his own devising.
If that summary hasn't already convinced you to read this fic... well, then you're clearly not me! This is the best kind of AU, where this new way of seeing the characters lets us look into them more deeply.

Star Trek: The Original Series
Feel Fine by [personal profile] sineala (G, Spock & Kirk & McCoy, kink: emotion play)
author's summary: Spock finds that he wants to be happy.
A wonderfully thoughtful and astute portrait of Spock after the events of STIV, learning and re-learning how to navigate the space he inhabits between Vulcan and human. Just lovely.

Warcraft
Scarlet and Ivory by [personal profile] usefulobject (Mature, Interrogator Vishas, kink: torture/interrogation)
author's summary: Vishas fantasizes that deep down, those damned Forsaken really like what he does. You don't get to be Scarlet Interrogator by not being creepy.
I love how Vishas projects his own twisted thoughts onto his victims — because, of course, they're the perverted ones! This fic nails the tone of how scary things are presented in WoW, with a hint of macabre humor that lightens the grotesqueness just enough.

X-Files
Palliative by [personal profile] sineala (Mature, Krycek, kink: enemas)
author's summary: Alex Krycek deals with his oilien experiences in a unique way.
Longtime friends know that the oilien episodes hold a special fascination for me, so it was a real treat to find this post-Apocrypha fic from KB 2010. The way Krycek experiences the trauma of the possession and the way he regains his sense of control are so perfectly him.
pauraque: patterned brown and white bird flying on a pale blue background (Default)
I received an excellent gift:
Pictures in the Pavement and Magic in the Rain by [personal profile] shewhostaples (G, Mary Poppins, ft. Mary, Jane, Winifred, & the Bird Woman)
It shows us more of the lives and relationships of the women in this movie in a wonderfully believable and satisfying way. It's everything I was hoping for when I asked for this fandom. You should read it!

I got matched with [personal profile] walgesang, which I knew was a possibility (it's not my fault we have similar tastes) but this year I just figured if it happens, let it happen. For her I wrote:
Deep Breath (Teen, World of Warcraft, ft. Onyxia & Lilian Voss)

Such enormity moving with such grace (G, ST:TOS, ft. Gillian Taylor)
And I wrote a treat for [livejournal.com profile] dropsofviolet:
The Thrill of the Hunt (G, ST:TNG, ft. Tasha Yar)
I'm looking forward to combing through the rest. There are some stories that look amazing from the summaries, it's just a matter of finding time to sit down and read. D:
