Patchwork Mouse

I finished two things today: the pawprint blouse and the white denim skirt.

The blouse is white cotton, with bright pawprints all over. I made the buttons six different colors, to match the pawprints: teal, blue, lavender (would have preferred purple, but the buttons I saw were too red), hot pink, red, and orange. I'm almost sorry I didn't just do the teal, but it looks good.

The skirt was basically finished--in fact, I've worn it at least once already--but it needed trim. The dolphin ribbon I wanted turned out to be out of stock, so I substituted zebras. It came out well, although the ribbon itself looks more pale gray than true white. I'm glad I didn't go with the iron-on vine I was first considering; it would have been to wide. (Also way too expensive.)

I also bought fabric this morning for a light blue skirt, to which I am going to add the white ruffle with blue crescent moons and stars embroidered on it. The fabric is fairly light-weight cotton, so this is going to be a summer-only skirt. I may at some point get some light blue denim for a three-season skirt, but the ruffle wouldn't look right on denim.

Finished the white denim skirt, except for the trim on the bottom edge. After a lot of poking around and rethinking what I wanted, last night I found--and ordered--1" white ribbon with dolphins and orcas woven in. Pretty!

I also ordered a blue and white ruffle, which will look good on the light blue skirt I was sort of planning (although denim will no longer work).

And I'm in the process of ordering lots and lots of small embroidered butterfly appliques. I want mint green or lavender for those, although I'd settle for white again, or maybe rose pink.

I also figured out *exactly* what I want to do with the denim shoulderbag I've been thinking about: leftover dolphin trim over the strap, one of those great orca buttons (that I haven't been buying because I had no use for them) for the closure, and cut the front applique out of the orca fabric that I used for my bedquilt. [Later: I can't find my scraps of orca fabric, dammit. I must have used it all. Oh, well, I have lots of marine fabric, much of it blue, so there's sure to be something that will work. One of the space whales, for example.]

*sigh* My to-do list keeps getting longer and longer.
