DWversary??

Today is the first anniversary of the day I joined DreamWidth... wow.

How did DreamWidth manage to probably be the first social network I was still using a year after I joined it?

LiveJournal - Of course I've been obsessed with LJ since 2009, but back when I actually joined it on August 19, 2007... not so much. I didn't do a whole lot on it for a while and went on a long hiatus early on. August 19, 2008 happened to be during that hiatus.

Facebook - I don't remember when I joined it, but probably about the same time as LJ. But like with LJ, I kept losing and regaining interest in it for a while. I also remember my first Facebook account being suspended because no one would verify the high school I went to (since there wasn't even an option for the high school I actually went to), but I don't remember when that was. So I may or may not have been using Facebook a year after I joined it.

Blogger? - For a dual-credit computer science class (the same one that Ours Will You 1-Up spawned out of, I believe), one of the assignments was to create an account on Blogger... at least I think it was Blogger. So I did, but I only ever made one post on it. Even if I wanted to update it now, I can't because I don't remember my username (and who knows if it's still up, anyway).

Miiverse - I joined it when I got my Wii U on December 25, 2012, and was active on it for several months, but then went on a hiatus from it and December 25, 2013 happened to be just before I came back from that hiatus - and then posted regularly for several more months only to go on an even longer hiatus.

And despite my having been on DreamWidth for over a year, I still only have 736 entries fixed :(

Color me midnight disappointed

This has been kind of a disappointing April Fools' Day because:

1) Homestar Runner didn't update at all today, even though they did for April Fools' Day 2014, 2015, and 2016, and April Fools and Halloween are almost the only times they ever update nowadays.
2) I don't think many people noticed my April Fools prank at all.

For reference, my April Fools prank was this entry; however, when I first posted it (on March 31 in my time zone, but late enough that it was April 1 already for some of you), it was an exact copy of my first entry. Then I waited a few minutes or so and changed it to a copy of a different past entry in the same way... then changed it to another after a few more minutes, and so on - basically, if I was at my computer, I'd change the entry anywhere from once an hour to once every few minutes. (At first. I gradually updated it less and less often because it seemed like no one was noticing...)

By "exact copy", that means including the subject line, repost button, userpic, tags, mood, music, location... basically, everything except the timestamp, the comments, and friends-only status [though, of course, the only friends-only entries I used were ones that probably would've been fine being public]. And anything that I intended to change each time but accidentally forgot sometimes. Though if I used an entry I'd posted in _dreams_, autism, or asperger, I added a notice saying that it was cross-posted (even though I don't think copying a community entry to my own journal years later for April Fools' Day actually counts as cross-posting).

I chose the entries semi-randomly, sometimes by going to my Calendar for random years and months and picking a random entry I'd feel comfortable posting again, and sometimes by just putting in notable entries that I remember and wanted to include in this prank at some point. Some entries were used more than once.

And just to mess with your heads even more, I thought it might be fun to come up with a hypothetical FUTURE entry and add it into the mix! That's what the 2023 year in review is for. It ended up being my favorite thing about this prank, so I left that one up significantly longer than any other single entry.

Now that April Fools' Day is over, all the entries I ended up using are listed below for posterity. (Don't expect the repost buttons to work correctly, though...)

homestar graduate epitaph

Time flies whether or not you're having fun

It's weird to think that I graduated college nearly a year ago... I still remember thinking I'd have a really hard time making it through certain classes!

Also, I'm trying to post more often about things that happen in my life (to kind of prove that even though I've been posting a lot of online quiz results lately, that's still not all I ever post)... but there probably won't be a lot of such posts until I start work.

ALLELUIA, ALLE, ALLE, ALLELUIA

I said in a friends-only entry earlier today that one of my classes today made me feel so uncomfortable, I felt that nothing that could possibly make my day any better.

I WAS WRONG.

While being reassured about what I mentioned in the entry itself also helped me feel a little better, what REALLY improved my day was:

TODAY, I FOUND OUT THAT THERE'S A NEW ENYA CD COMING OUT ON NOVEMBER 20.

http://enya.sk/2015/10/enya-talks-…

http://entertainment.ie/music/news…

http://enya.sk/2015/10/dark-sky-is…

SHE'S BACK. SHE'S BACK. SHE'S FINA-LULLY BACK.*

Those moments lost, forever gone, can never be again... UNTIL NOW! It's easier to remember only good days... BECAUSE THOSE DAYS ARE BACK! :D

I missed that beautiful lady so much... ♥

The only problem is now entries like this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, this one, and this one seem even weirder in retrospect than they already did (is that even possible?) because many times have prooty passed* since the last time I knew for a fact that Enya is still alive and that her hiatus wasn't because of anything weird I said on LJ four years ago. I've forgotten what it was like to not be so worried about those things! :)

*Yes, I threw Homestar Runner references into a post about Enya. Enya and H*R both went on long hiatuses that began within a year of each other and ended within a year of each other, so why not? :)

game theory ruined my life!

I haven't lost my mind yet! But I probably will if I hear the words "Game Theory" ONE MORE TIME...

If any of you have noticed this entry at all, you've probably also noticed that, despite the name "Worries of the Week (or so)", I've only posted one "proper" Worries of the Week (or so) post this year and that was almost four weeks ago.

Yeah, I've rearranged my priorities yet again since then - probably even more than once. Right now my priorities are something like:

1) Homework, other college stuff, daily routines, etc. (which have always been at the top)
2) Find all of the lost Ourswillyouoneupian cave paintings and put them in a display Upload to ScrapBook all of the images that I'd been hosting on my unrelated attachments page on Ours Will You 1-Up up until Google Sites willed me game over, and use that to replace all the image links in my entries and (as far as I know) one of my comments. I also decided that while I do that, I'd do some other random maintenance on my old entries, such as making sure that they all either have repost buttons or "This entry doesn't get a repost button for whatever reason" notices, etc. But who knows, I might change my mind again before I actually get the chance to start on this...
3) Finish updating my glossary of Matt1993isms
4) I haven't decided what'll be after that... Go back to Worries of the Week (or so) for a while? Work on my userpics some more? (speaking of, did anyone besides pathvain_aelien see this?) Catch up on my friends page? Update my profile and interests? Remove some of my least useful tags to make room for more useful ones? Add tags to entries that don't have them yet? Join a friending community? I realize I've posted a poll like this before, but right now I've been having to work mostly on what I think is most likely to help me feel better. And homework, of course.

Speaking of homework, here's how I'm doing in each class so far. My wording is probably going to sound like I'm in a hurry because I kind of am in a hurry - I need to get to bed - but I also don't want to have this entry scheduled to be posted later this time.

Collapse )

There is one last completely unrelated thing I really want to mention so I won't have to keep thinking about how much I want to post about it:

Now that my roommate knows how I feel whenever he mentions Game Theory, he hasn't given me a hard time since then, right?

WRONG. The REAL conflict resolution is in another castle.

Collapse )

I probably could've worded some of this better or explained in more detail but need to go to bed now. Probably some broken LJ-cuts or something somewhere too

This entry doesn't get a repost button because it's friends-only. Yet again.

Worries of the Week (or so): January 2, 2015

Happy New Year everyone! Though... how is it 2015 ALREADY?

And now for something completely different...

Since my Computer Science Seminar class is definitely going to remind me of the Forbidden Comment Threads (Ω or not - in fact, throughout this entry I sometimes ended up saying just "Forbidden Comment Threads" to mean both) about once every three nanoseconds, I figure I might as well start posting about some of the many other things that remind me of the Forbidden Comment Threads. And a few things besides those that I'm worried about being hated for.

Remember when I decided to eventually start posting about just a few of those things at a time instead of waiting until I'm done with the whole list first? That's exactly what I'm doing! I have a feeling that choosing to start it before a very Forbidden Comment Threads-like class begins is going to be either a very good idea or a very bad idea - I'm not sure which yet. Maybe getting some of these things off my chest right now is exactly what I need to do to feel better in general! Or maybe it will be the fifth-worst mistake I'll ever make! (I'm almost certain it won't be the worst, though)

This entry does not get a repost button because it is friends-only.

O___O

Last week, as part of an assignment in Speech class, I rewatched The Mummy and watched The Ring for the first time.

Turns out that my prediction here was actually wrong - The Ring is, in fact, a lot scarier than the parody of it on Annoying Orange.

But you know what's even more terrifying than both combined?

A horror movie I watched yesterday called Worse than the Forbidden Comment Threads.

Have any of you heard of it? It's the sequel to that one movie about the guy who reads a cursed flame war that makes him start seeing nightmarish visions of his friends misinterpreting everything he's ever said and hating him for it, and seemingly, the only way for him to get rid of the visions is to make a list of everything he's said and done that might be misinterpreted and post that to his LiveJournal in friends-only entries.

I found both that one and the sequel REALLY disturbing... It's almost impossible to remember that either of them is just a movie. Maybe it's just because the main character looks kind of like me. Actually, come to think of it, he looks almost exactly like me... and he even has a lot of interests in common with me: same celebrity crush, same favorite video games...

Even the phrase "Forbidden Comment Threads" sounds familiar for some reason... Didn't I hear it somewhere before about three years ago? I remember thinking up a phrase kind of like it that had something to do with a--

O___O

...

Uhhh...

Guys...

...

I...

I just remembered...

The first one in that series was no horror movie...

I... I think I remember... the Forbidden Comment Threads...

...actually happening...

...as part of my own life...

...

I don't think the sequel was just a movie either...

...

There really is...

...something that's probably worse than the Forbidden Comment Threads...

...and I read it yesterday...

...

...

Okay, now I'm way too scared to even care whether or not going from actual horror movies to a controversy that I pretended was a horror movie is too sudden of a topic jump...

*hides and curls into the fetal position in a clearly horrified manner*

(short version of this entry: What?! The Forbidden Comment Threads are evolving!)

History class is history!

I'm done with History II! I feel like I still don't know as much about history as I should, but I knew enough on the final exam today to get an A or a B in the class! :)

I still haven't gotten to catch up on my friends page or finish making my older userpics more legible, though (though I did work on the latter at one point) :(

Thought I wasn't going to post again until the Forbidden Comment Threads freeze over, didn't you? ;)

Sorry I haven't been able to post in a while. That semester was so intense, I rarely even had enough free time to complain about it on LiveJournal!

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that a) everything I know on LJ except my journal has dramatically changed in the time that I haven't posted, just like it did the last time I went a month or so without posting, and b) I'm not going to be able to adequately make up for the lack of posts. But I guess I'll try anyway by posting how I generally felt about each class:

Collapse )

And... that's about all I can do to catch up on posting for now. I'd have posted more quiz/meme reruns if I'd done any quizzes or memes between 5 years before my last entry and 5 years before this entry, but as it is, the next one's still not until the 14th.

infinite-paragraph essay

Everything's cool when you don't have homework and aren't constantly being reminded of the FCT!

Sorry I haven't posted or checked my friends page in a while - I once again had so much homework pile up on me at once that a) I didn't have much free time and b) whenever I did, I was so tired of having to work on stuff that I ended up spending it playing video games instead.

Not only that, but the past two weeks in Psychology class, we discussed the chapter that reminded me of the Forbidden Comment Threads the most when I glanced at random pages from my textbook... *shudder* Gender, Sex, and Sexuality.

Luckily, only one argument ever happened throughout all the class sessions about that chapter, I managed to stay out of it, and it wasn't even bad enough that anyone who's even slightly more emotionally stable than I am is likely to also count it as an argument. But there were still a lot of things said in the textbook and the lectures that reminded me of the FCT... *shudder*

At least we're done with that chapter, and it's Spring Break now!!! And I got to see The LEGO Movie yesterday!!

Hopefully, I'll make progress on something this Spring Break...
