WHAT. JUST. HAPPENED.

Apparently I just posted one of the most popular entries on LJ. Which I guess is pretty easy to do if I'm one of the only people still posting to LJ at all...

So, hi new people! Sorry for all the inside jokes that would've made much more sense[citation needed] if you'd been here 7 or 8 years ago. Before you go asking me what "HWHD" or "WTCN" or whatever means, visit my FAQ and glossary of Matt1993isms (taking into account that the former is fairly up-to-date but the latter was last updated in 2011).

Anyway, onto the important stuff:

I THINK I read all of your comments. I know why people are moving to DreamWidth (well, NOW I know, but until now I'd heard a lot of seemingly different reasons and wasn't sure which, if any, were accurate), and I agree that it would be a good idea for me to create a backup journal on DreamWidth (or maybe another site) because who knows how long LJ will be around and how long anyone else will be on LJ at the rate things are going.

But at the same time, LiveJournal has been one of my favorite hobbies, if not my ♯1 favorite hobby, for over a third of my life (I'm 23, turning 24 in July, and have been active since February 2009 when I was 15½). So I am NOT going to leave LJ entirely. There is no way I can - it's just too much of a part of who I am, and I really hope that one day it goes back to the way it was.

I've finally decided that my plan is to have a LiveJournal AND a DreamWidth (or a LiveJournal AND an account on some other journal site). In fact, I would start creating my backup account RIGHT NOW if it weren't for the fact that I need to decide what site to backup my LJ to.

I'm going to need a site that has most, if not all, of the features that I use on LiveJournal - I want to make my DreamWidth (or whatever) similar enough to my LJ that it will be REALLY easy for me to adjust to using both.

This means I want to find a site with:
- A way to make TWO accounts. I've been wanting to make a separate journal on LJ for dreams for a long time - now that THIS just happened, when I finally get around to making a LJ dream journal, I'd want to have a backup of that on DreamWidth or whatever as well.
- The ability to use at least 116 userpics, because that's how many "regular" userpics I have right now. (I'd VERY strongly prefer the limit be significantly more than 116, though.)
- A way to make a profile and interests list similar to what LJ has.
- A friends page.
- A way to automatically backup my old entries and the comments on them to the new journal - with the mood, music, location, repost buttons, images, videos, tags, timestamps, friends-only status, custom friends groups, and probably something else I forgot intact. (A lot of you said DreamWidth lets you import entries and comments with most of these intact.) Or, at the very least, I need it to be possible to manually add whichever of these things would not automatically be transferred. (cactus_rs, you said that I'd lose images and videos - you don't mean that images and videos can't be used at all in entries on DW, do you? :( Though I guess I could just have the videos be replaced with the URLs for them if I have to...)
- A way to upload images similar to ScrapBook - and with them having the same privacy settings as entries.
- A way to have comments be screened.
- A way to make the journal style similar to the one I'm using here. By this I just mean I don't want it to be TOO drastically different - I think any yellow layout would work. And this only applies to my journal - other pages on whatever site I backup my LJ to don't have to look anything like LJ in terms of design as long as the features I need are there.
- Probably something else I forgot. I'll edit this entry if I remember anything else.

How many of these features does DreamWidth have? Does another site have more of these features? Am I making any sense whatsoever? (I've been misunderstood a lot before. I REALLY hope that doesn't happen here...)
broken link

About time!

All of the broken images in entries I posted in 2009 (except one that never showed up to begin with) have finally been restored to their former glory! I think.

Only took me a combined total of TWO YEARS to get around to it and to finish it, and that was just for 2009...

Quest for the Lost Images

So, in the aftermath of a lot of my ScrapBook images mysteriously going missing (and the images I had hosted on Google Sites also going missing nearly two years ago*, though I have since restored the ones used before August 2009 and am in the process of restoring the rest), I have an idea:

I suggest that everyone reading this (especially those of you who are new or relatively new to my friends list) please do the following a few times:

- Pick a random year between 2007 and the present (except 2008; I only had one post that year and it has no images, broken or not), a random month, and a random day of that month
- Go to http://matt1993.livejournal.com/yy…, replacing the yyyy/mm/dd with the date you picked
- If I posted that day, read those entries to find out a) a glimpse of what I was doing in that era and b) whether or not there are any broken images in those entries. And then if there are, let me know in the comments on this one.

If at least some of you do this a few times, you'll get to learn a little more about me and I'll have a slightly easier time pinpointing just how many images in my journal are broken! (And I'll also get a better idea of how many of my entries make sense to people who haven't been here since 2009 or so!) :)

*Wait, that was nearly two years ago?!?

EDIT: Hey, LiveJournal's staff fixed it - the images show up in my ScrapBook now! I still have yet to make sure they show up in my actual entries, though. Note to self: if I come across an image that doesn't show up, press Ctrl+F5 before assuming that it's still missing.

To all of you who looked through random entries to see if there were any broken images: Thank you for the help! :)

Hope you have a smashing Christmas! (or a smashing December 25 if you don't celebrate it)

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!... and I'm beginning to look like even more of a dork than I was this time last year. :P

By the way, for some reason, a lot of the oldest images in my ScrapBook have mysteriously gone missing... That hasn't happened to anyone else, has it? :O
game theory ruined my life!

I haven't lost my mind yet! But I probably will if I hear the words "Game Theory" ONE MORE TIME...

If any of you have noticed this entry at all, you've probably also noticed that, despite the name "Worries of the Week (or so)", I've only posted one "proper" Worries of the Week (or so) post this year and that was almost four weeks ago.

Yeah, I've rearranged my priorities yet again since then - probably even more than once. Right now my priorities are something like:

1) Homework, other college stuff, daily routines, etc. (which have always been at the top)
2) Find all of the lost Ourswillyouoneupian cave paintings and put them in a display Upload to ScrapBook all of the images that I'd been hosting on my unrelated attachments page on Ours Will You 1-Up up until Google Sites willed me game over, and use that to replace all the image links in my entries and (as far as I know) one of my comments. I also decided that while I do that, I'd do some other random maintenance on my old entries, such as making sure that they all either have repost buttons or "This entry doesn't get a repost button for whatever reason" notices, etc. But who knows, I might change my mind again before I actually get the chance to start on this...
3) Finish updating my glossary of Matt1993isms
4) I haven't decided what'll be after that... Go back to Worries of the Week (or so) for a while? Work on my userpics some more? (speaking of, did anyone besides pathvain_aelien see this?) Catch up on my friends page? Update my profile and interests? Remove some of my least useful tags to make room for more useful ones? Add tags to entries that don't have them yet? Join a friending community? I realize I've posted a poll like this before, but right now I've been having to work mostly on what I think is most likely to help me feel better. And homework, of course.

Speaking of homework, here's how I'm doing in each class so far. My wording is probably going to sound like I'm in a hurry because I kind of am in a hurry - I need to get to bed - but I also don't want to have this entry scheduled to be posted later this time.

Collapse )

There is one last completely unrelated thing I really want to mention so I won't have to keep thinking about how much I want to post about it:

Now that my roommate knows how I feel whenever he mentions Game Theory, he hasn't given me a hard time since then, right?

WRONG. The REAL conflict resolution is in another castle.

Collapse )

I probably could've worded some of this better or explained in more detail but need to go to bed now. Probably some broken LJ-cuts or something somewhere too

This entry doesn't get a repost button because it's friends-only. Yet again.
