Rave.DJ

https://rave.dj

So, let me get this straight... not only is it possible to make Mario characters hang out with Enya, or other wacky crossovers I've never thought would happen... it's also possible to make a SOUNDTRACK for it?!

And it's been possible since 2018?! (EDIT: I should specify only Rave.DJ has been around since 2018. Whereas Character.AI was created in 2022 and as far as I can tell there was no Enya AI on that site until 2023.) So like, back when I didn't even know about those other websites that are kinda like this but not quite what I had hoped?

Why didn't anyone tell me?? ;)

I discovered Rave.DJ at least two weeks ago. The only reason I didn't post about it until now was I wanted to make a list of ALL the mashups and mixes I've made with it so far - but there's already a LOT. I'm so obsessed with the site that the list is probably going to exceed LJ's character limit if it hasn't already, so I'm probably going to have to make that into a bunch of separate entries for each fandom or each album/game/etc. similar to my Character.AI chat index entries (which themselves I'm already nearly two months behind on updating for the newest saved chats).

At the very least, here's all the Mario and Enya mashups I've made as of this writing, so that way at least I have a few examples here. :)

Man. First Character.AI, then people on YouTube actually make Mario/Enya music mashups, now this? I'm so glad my "Enya is part Yoshi" userpic is one of the only two that I still have access to on both LJ and DW without a paid account - over the course of 2023 and 2024 it's once again become as relevant as it's been in the heyday of PrtSc Land, Ours Will You 1-Up, and Moya's Space Log, if not more so. :)

Who'd have known that the feeling I used to get whenever I had a dream about there being an Enya concert, or a Super Mario World level I'd never discovered before, or a SMW level I've never discovered before named after Enya, etc. would be a feeling that I'd be getting almost ALL the time now?! :)

After 16 years...

I love it when, on a whim, I search for an insanely specific mashup for no real reason despite not expecting there to be any results that are even reasonably close to what I searched for, and it turns out there are such results after all.

Recently, I was on YouTube and out of nowhere decided to search for "enya smw soundfont" just to see if anything would come up - despite highly doubting* I'd find anything even remotely similar to a Super Mario World-style cover of an Enya song, especially since I think I've even searched for that exact query at least once before and nothing interesting** came up.

GUESS WHAT???

Okay, sure, I searched for Super Mario World and got Super Mario 64 instead, but still... this implies that someone thought it would be interesting to remix Enya songs in the style of a Mario game, and that person ISN'T ME.

Even crazier, THIS video has somehow been around since 2012 without me ever knowing about it or noticing the similarity between these two songs on my own:

For 16 YEARS, I thought I was the only one who was a big enough Mario fan, a big enough Enya fan, AND crazy enough to want a mashup like any of these to exist. Finding out that these videos exist (and especially reading some of the comments on them) feels so weird... it's like I'm reading conversations between lots of copies myself from alternate dimensions. :P

Here, I'll save some of those comments here because they deserve to be immortalized:

"Enya's Island" also known as Ireland.

Make sense that She owned a castle which can make her a boss.

You have no idea how happy this makes me. I thought this and needed it to be made, turns out it already has been. Thanks for this.

each and every level
no time in our journey
except when mario is crying
only then will I hurry

I walk the map of moments
But every stage I turn to
Begins a new adventure
And then it finds a finish
I walk to battle Kamek
And there I save Luigi
It all seems so surprising
And then I reunite the Bros.

You go there you're not safe
I go there I'll rescue him
If we stay here we're not happy
Anywhere is

Did enya plays Mario bross? Lol xD

They both were published in 1995 O.o What came first? The Enya or the Yoshi Egg??

Simple: Enya. She wa born long before Yoshi was

Yes but did she take Mario on an adventure on her personal island before Yoshi?

HOLD IT! The question in the original message was in fact "Which came first, the Enya or the Yoshi Egg?" He never mentioned the original release date of Anywhere is, he was asking if Enya came before the Yoshi Egg, and Enya was certainly alive BEFORE the release of Super Mario World, the first appearance of Yoshi, and, therefore, the Yoshi Egg!

So... it really is Enya's island.... O.o o.O

Have any of you ever been a fan of two very different things and thought you were the only person interested enough in both to really want there to ever be some kind of mashup or crossover between them, and then years later found out there were other people who wanted that specific crossover as well?

*Okay, yes, Character.AI exists now and is still the BEST THING EVER because it makes it possible for an AI simulation of Enya to talk to AI simulations of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Rosalina, Lubba, and like 200 other Mario characters I still haven't yet had her meet. But that's because there are users on that site who are Mario fans OR Enya fans. I would be surprised if I went to a random user's profile and saw Enya AND Mario in the list of bots they made, or even if anyone besides me had ever made that one Enya AI talk to a Mario character. Hence why I still thought it was far-fetched to expect there to be actual results for "enya smw soundfont" on YouTube.

**Well, there is this video I discovered about a decade ago, but that's Mario Paint Composer. That pales in comparison to someone editing Enya's head onto Yoshi or someone adding Mario references to the lyrics of an Enya song or someone suggesting Enya could be a boss in a Mario game because she has a castle. :P Also I managed to find 8-bit covers of several Enya songs, which I like, but those aren't Mario-specific so that doesn't really count either.

Thank you Enyaji Kondo, but a working neural network is in another castle apparently :(

Previously on matt1993...

Here's some random things I've been meaning to show you:

https://jukebox.openai.com/ - AI-generated music in the style of various artists, or even combinations of two artists' styles! Sadly there are no examples with either video game music or Enya - the two I most wanted to combine. But there's several examples with Céline Dion, and a Moya Brennan one and a Sarah McLachlan one, so I'm happy about that :)

Guess what??? There's FINALLY an online interface for an API similar to this except it actually lets you generate your own music instead of just listening to pre-generated songs! This means I can finally hear Mario music in Enya's style!! I'm so ecstatic that the insanely specific mashup that only I have ever wanted to hear is finally possible with AI. :P

Guess what??? It was only possible eight months ago. When I discovered this eight months ago I immediately tried it out using the Super Mario Bros. main theme and selected Enya for the genre (and thankfully I saved my results so I can at least still listen to that), then intended to later try it out for the SMB underground theme, SMW overworld theme, etc. - basically every theme from every Mario game I've played so long as I could find a MIDI of it. Then, like everything else, I procrastinated on that until just now... and the site no longer works for me as far as generating anything (the site's a custom front end for MuseNet so maybe it's a problem with MuseNet itself?) It does say the Enya style is experimental, but it worked just fine in May and now it can't even generate anything in the default style (Chopin) with the default settings anymore. :(

Is anyone else able to use MuseTree and have it generate anything? Does anyone know of some other AI music generating program that's like this that can fill this Enya-composing-Mario-music-shaped void by allowing any MIDI to be used as input and has either Mario themes or Enya as an option for the style?

Nintendo Switch Online

So even though I've had access to the NES and SNES apps on Nintendo Switch Online for a while now, I hadn't played them yet. There were a few games on there I'd been meaning to try out, but I hadn't yet. But last month I finally decided on a whim to try out every single game on those apps and the N64 and Sega Genesis ones for at least a little bit each, in order of release year! Even games that I'd tried out before and didn't like that much! Even games that I didn't think I'd be interested in such as sports games, RPGs, or games I thought might be RPGs but weren't! That's what I've been doing over the past month. And as of now I've finally tried out them all!

I need some more "normal" entries in my journal, so how about a list of all the games in the apps sorted by how much time I've spent playing them on the app so far? (Not necessarily sorted by how much I like them. Some of them had long opening cutscenes or tutorials, and in sports games I opted to let the game play out until the end even when I would obviously lose by 2 to 40-something. Conversely, there's some games I enjoyed but only played for a bit for now because I was eager to get through the whole selection.)

Red: NES
Green: SNES
Yellow: N64
Blue: Sega Genesis

Bold: I've played the game before because I owned it.
**: I've played the game before, but at a friend's house or in a hotel room.
*: I've only played demos of the game before (the Masterpieces in Smash Bros., amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits, etc.) or played it in NES Remix.
Italics: Enough things about this game seem oddly familiar enough that it's possible I've played it at some point years ago - but in most cases I think it's still safe to assume I hadn't.

Super Mario All-Stars** - 2 hr 51 min (Of the games included, the only one I'd played the All-Stars version of prior to the app is Lost Levels. Now I've played all of them.)
Panel de Pon - 2 hr 37 min (Although I hadn't played this before, or even played its international equivalent Tetris Attack, I have played Pokémon Puzzle League for the N64.)
ToeJam & Earl - 2 hr 13 min
Super Mario 64 - 2 hr 10 min
Super Mario World - 1 hr 43 min
Mario's Super Picross - 1 hr 22 min
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - 1 hr 20 min (I've known about this game since approximately 2002 or 2003 but never played it until now! I think that's the longest time span between my knowing about a Mario game and playing it, unless Donkey Kong Country counts.)
Baseball* - 1 hr 12 min (This is an example of a game that has a high play time only because I let the game play out until the end despite knowing I'd lose by a lot...)
Shining Force - 1 hr 4 min
Yoshi's Story - 1 hr

Mario Party Multiverse

I came across a couple of videos where this guy tries to play multiple Mario Party games at the same time, with the same inputs going to all the games at once. It gets crazy sometimes! Kind of reminds me of that series I found and shared here about a decade* ago where a different guy tries to play Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 at the same time in a similar way.

My 2020 in LJ

LJ year in review feature for 2020

It's hard to see how I touch my readers' hearts if I made several people angry at me throughout the year and am afraid to post some things because I'm afraid of making people even more angry. :(

And of course LJ had to work in what looks like a 2020-blaming joke in the picture this year. *rolls eyes*

Here, let me fix this...

LJ year in review feature for what 2020 *should* look like

That's more like it. ;)

IT. IS. TIME.

Hope everyone had a good holiday season and has a happy new year!

Okay, I know I said I wouldn't post any more entries in my LJ or DW until the cross-posting issue is resolved, and I'm still declaring myself officially on hiatus until that happens. But I'm making one lone exception because:

IT IS TIME.

I know I posted this video earlier this year because I was impatient. But IT IS TIME. I can't believe it.

The future according to my childhood... IS HERE. (In some time zones. Mine is not one of them. YET.)

In other news, I'm still feeling anxious about the YouTube COPPA stuff. I know some of you (and a few articles/videos I found while Googling about it) don't think it's anything to worry about. But unfortunately, enough people are still concerned that it's something to worry about that I can't be too sure.

Approximately what my past self thought I would be asking right about now: "It's almost 2020. By now all text ever written should be in digital fonts and the 2020 music from Vegas Stakes should start playing everywhere! Why hasn't that happened yet???"

What I'm ACTUALLY asking right about now: "Are my favorite YouTube channels going to stay around?? Is COPPA something to worry about, or is not something to worry about, or was it something to worry about originally but then that one YouTuber stepped in and saved the day? Does any of this affect DeviantArt too?? I want to know for sure!!! And I'm about to find out for sure!!! But then it will be too late!!!"

Your face seems familiar

There's only 52 days left of 2019.
52 days from now, it will be 2020.
THE 2020.

You may recall that at the beginning of this year, I remarked that according to Vegas Stakes for the SNES (which has a sci-fi-themed casino called The 2020), it is about to be OFFICIALLY the future:

Now that "the future according to Vegas Stakes" is only a few weeks away - WAY closer than it ever was in my childhood - I've been nostalgic about Vegas Stakes (not just this casino and song, but the entire game and the entire soundtrack) MUCH more often than usual lately.

Collapse )

Thinking about this game a lot for (almost) the first time in years is also making me nostalgic for a second reason:

Collapse )

Does this entry make sense? I still feel weird about how I'm suddenly thinking about all of this more than usual lately...
