the blending. it's driving me insane. i know for sure that this was made in photoshop, but does anyone happen to know how to do this sh*t in GIMP? i've been trying to figure it out and i just... can't.

Alright, I spent all evening yesterday searching for a tutorial or information about how to get the effect of this image (credit river__), and I've come up with nothing. The specific effect I'm trying to achieve is the face seeming to fade into the background. I've tinkered, I've twiddled, I've tweaked. I've searched the web until my carpal tunnel was screaming at me because of the abuse of my mouse. And. I. Can't. Figure. It. Out. I'm probably seriously over-thinking it. Can someone please help, maybe point me in the right direction?

I'm using 2.6, if that has any relevance...

So, I know how to blend two pictures together, but I don't know how to blend many pictures together. I'm trying to make a wallpaper and I want these 5 pictures in a circle and I want them to all blend together.

Any idea how to do this?
