Dec. 13th, 2022 06:25 amDay 13, for
duffy: Are there recent television shows that you truly love(d) but have absolutely no interest in participating in the fandom? A bit of explanation too, if you’re so inclined.
Most of what I've watched recently is various Star Wars properties, and I'm still too overwhelmed by the immenseness of the 'verse to even know what I could contribute, but the possibility exists! Although I'd say the most recent one, Andor, falls less in the "truly loved" category and more in the "that was interesting" category.
Another relatively recent show (2020) I truly love is The King: Eternal Monarch—I've watched it multiple times, and while I don't know that I would write fic for it (it's very complete unto itself, for me), if I ever manage to make a vid again, this gorgeous show is high on the list. And I've read fic and left feedback, which I count as participating.
I love the new Interview with the Vampire series, and I'm planning to make a vid for it for Escapade.
I think the real answer to this is that if I truly love an episodic show, I always have at least some idea of participating in the fandom. I'm honestly trying to think of any show I've ever truly loved, recent or not, that I didn't at least engage with on some fannish level, and I'm not coming up with any. (In some cases, there wasn't any fandom at all, and even that didn't stop me!) Sometimes the creative urge isn't there (Roswell, NM and Star Trek Discovery come to mind) but I'm still participating in discussion, reading fic, watching vids, etc.
There are certainly many books and movies I've truly loved that I could say I never felt fannish about, but that doesn't seem to be true for TV shows. Interesting.

And if one keeps up with a TV show over years (although the amount of content has dropped enough that it's become much more manageable) then there's probably a higher level of interest there.
