Dec. 3rd, 2022 08:58 amDay 3, for
gwyn: Other than Blame Destina, what got you into Star Wars after all this time?
It was a gradual progression, starting more than 10 years ago when I watched The Clone Wars, and got hooked on the family unit of Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka. I talked to a few people about it, but even amongst my friends who liked Star Wars, I got a lot of either "I don't do animated shows," or, "I tried, but I hate the animation." At one point I was very keen to make a vid for it, but didn't really want to hear the "but I hate the animation" 50 times. So, it was an interest that faded after the series was over, and because I wasn't connected with SW fandom at large, I never found anyone else to talk to about it. But the little kindled flame of love for the middle-years Obi-Wan in particular hummed along back there. In retrospect, the other thing that I loved about TCW was that we got to see what jedi actually do for a living, and that made them infinitely interesting to me. The bad-assery! The hubris! The power! The potential for galactic disaster!
In the meantime, Rogue One came along, and Stormpilot, and the Han Solo movie (yes, I loved it, sorry not sorry!), all of which added to my interest. I got briefly obsessed with Adam Driver, even though Kylo Ren can f right off. I also watched a bit of Rebels, although now I realize I really only watched season 2 with any level of attention. It was a show I put on in the background, and it wasn't until the end of S1 that I looked up and went, hey, this is actually good. Then I watched S2, loved it, and then...life happened.
When the Obi-Wan series was announced, I couldn't wait for it—and it was all that I wanted and more. It gave me the intense Obi-Wan/Anakin relationship I wanted, and Ewan! EWAN. I was completely unspoiled, also, so bb!Leia was a complete surprise and a delight. Not only my angsty jedi, but dad!Obi-Wan? All those years of humming along in the background, and the beast awakened. Sharing the squee with
destina and then
charlottechill only fanned the flame. I watched it five or six times, and read Destina's gorgeous story as she was writing it.
Hungry for more, I went back and rewatched Star Wars: Rebels from the beginning—and fell head over heels for every character in that series. Which is perfect, because Sabine is one of my favorites, and the upcoming Ahsoka series is set to be absolutely everything I want right now. (Bring me ALLLLL of the Ahsoka/Sabine. My body is ready.) I also consumed The Bad Batch, Boba Fett, Tales of the Jedi, and started rewatching Clone Wars in very short order, as well as picking The Mandalorian back up and making my way into Andor. It's been all Star Wars all the time, pretty much.
So, ultimately, it's really Obi-Wan and Ewan McGregor's fault. Destina just enabled.
If you haven't already, please pick a day and ask me anything you like. ♥

I've seen all the films and all but one of the TV series (which actually did seem overly geared to kids). But Andor, wow, that's been on a whole other level.

Date: 2022-12-03 11:32 pm (UTC)Rebels is just objectively great, IMO, and it's where my SW fannish heart mostly lies—at least, the parts that aren't obsessed with Obi-Wan. I'm so excited for the Ahsoka series, and trying not to be impatient! As soon as we get a release date, it's going on my calendar so I can rewatch Rebels again before it comes out.

Yes! That's completely how I feel. Well, I'm slow, and rarely get into movie source fandoms. But yes, that's a great way of putting it.

Date: 2022-12-03 11:51 pm (UTC)What got me hooked was Ahsoka and animated Obi-Wan. Just pure heart eyes for both. They're the two characters I love most. And then also the clones <3. With Rebels, i was on board from the get go but did not expect to fall quite so much in love with with them. It's like the perfect found family dynamics. You get everything! And, as a fan of the Jedi and doomed heroes, I love Kanan's journey in particular.
