30 Days of TV: Day 15
Jun. 27th, 2010 11:46 amDay 15 - Favorite female character
This wasn't honestly any harder than Favorite male character, but I did make a token effort to at least consider the possibilities.
This was my short list:
Buffy Summers (Buffy, the Vampire Slayer)
Buffy jumping off the tower was what made me watch both this show and Angel in their entirety, and I'll never not be a sucker for that kind of straightforward act of love and sacrifice. I'm also a sucker for the "chosen one/cursed to be the savior of the world" trope, so it was pretty much guaranteed that sooner or later, I was going to fall for Buffy Summers.
Sara Pezzini (Witchblade)
Yancy Butler could talk to me all day and I wouldn't get sick of listening to her. Sara also has this wonderful, wry sense of humor that made her the first female character I ever felt truly fannish about. Plus, there's the whole "chosen one" thing again. *is predictable*

Callisto, Gabrielle, and Xena (Xena: Warrior Princess)
I was a Callisto fan first, then a Gabrielle fan, but by season 5, Xena had won my heart. Has there ever been a female character so in control of her own destiny? I love that no matter the odds, I never believed she would lose.
Fiona Glenanne (Burn Notice)
She's the main reason I'm still watching this show. Gabrielle Anwar keeps winning my heart over and over, and I love how fierce Fiona is. I want to pair her with every awesome female character ever -- starting with Stacie Monroe from Hustle.
Jaye Tyler (Wonderfalls)
If there's one character ever on TV that I wish could be my real-life girlfriend or boyfriend? It's Jaye Tyler. Gabrielle is a distant second, but seriously, I wish Jaye were real because I swear, I would do whatever it took to, like, marry her. I'm not even kidding.
Trinity (The Matrix)
After Sara Pezzini, I think she might be the second female character I felt really fannish about. She's the first one (and still one of the very few) about whom I felt compelled to write het fic. And here's something I bet not everybody knows: at one time, there was talk about casting Carrie-Anne Moss as Lucy in Highlander: The Raven. I'm not sure how serious she ever was about it, or how close they got to actually signing her (my guess is: not very) but if they had? Yeah. Amanda/Lucy would so completely be my OTP of all time.
Gwen Raiden (Angel, the Series)
She's a distant second to the female character that I'm sure no one will be surprised to learn is my favorite, but she's still awesome. And, hey, they seem to have a lot in common. No wonder that when I finally managed to write femslash, it was about these two. They both have a layer of self-protection that completely fails to hide their sweet toffee centers, and they both make me laugh.
Amanda Darieux (Highlander, the Series and Highlander: the Raven )
I know you'll all be shocked to learn that Amanda is my favorite female character of all time. I can't even imagine the character who'd knock her out of that spot. What can I say about her that I haven't waxed rhapsodic about many times before? She's funny, she's beautiful, she's clever, she can fight, she's skilled, she loves Duncan, and despite her best efforts, she has the kindest, tenderest heart possible, while still maintaining a level-headed view of the world. She combines a refreshing pragmatism with a love of life and faith in people that inspires me on my worst days. She's the most loyal friend anyone could have. And she's sexy as all hell, and comfortable with that. She is the one person most likely to be able to make Duncan and Methos get along for the long haul, and she's delicious paired with either (or preferably both!) of them. (Or Joe, Richie, Tessa -- I'm not that picky.)

Amanda! ♥

Date: 2010-06-27 11:52 pm (UTC)Callisto! Wow, I haven't thought about her in years. I fell out of the habit of watching Xena after a while, but that show had some fierce, fierce women.

Date: 2010-06-27 09:48 pm (UTC)TRUE STORY: I am not the type of person to go up to famous people and gush all over them and ask them for pics or autographs. The very idea of it makes me cringe and want to die of embarrassment (and entitlement). Only, one night I was at a bar in town with some friends and had had RATHER A LOT to drink. We were getting ready to leave and I turned towards the door and BUMPED RIGHT INTO CARRIE-ANN MOSS, who was here filming Matrix 2. I drunkenly gasped (out loud) and gushed all over her about how much I loved Trinity and wished I could fly through windows just like she could.
CAM just kind of looked at me like she wasn't sure if I was crazy or this teeny adorable puppy she wanted to pet. FML. /o\

The only actor I ever got really goofy over was Elizabeth Gracen (Amanda). A friend showed her some of the vids I'd made about Amanda, and she gave me a little box of notecards with a note in one of them that said, "Thank you for making me look good!" It's, like, the only fannish thing I've ever kept for more than a year. :D

Maybe one day she'll get another show. I hope so!

The one character I thought about who didn't make it on here is El from White Collar. Maybe give her another season or two. *g*
