Date: 2016-09-07 09:07 pm (UTC)I do wonder if they already were thinking of HL: the Raven as the spinoff title? It never made sense to me as a title for Amanda's series, but would have totally worked if they'd made Alex Raven the focus.

Date: 2016-09-09 02:10 am (UTC)Duncan just looks so GQ now. He got in amazing shape, he almost looks too good. (I can't believe I'm saying this!) But his looks are damn distracting to me. Or maybe it's just that the storylines are meh.
Even though Duncan thought Alex just killed his friend, he was strangely unemotional about it. I guess George wasn't that good a friend. Or maybe Duncan is still trying to keep his meditative calm leftover from his fight with Ahriman.
I do always enjoy seeing Duncan interacting with 'normal' people, and just kind of living his life. Of course this is Duncan we're talking about, so there are always immortals popping up. Didn't he seem surprised that Alex didn't want to stay with him at the end. Methinks he isn't turned down too often, lol.

Date: 2016-09-12 04:01 pm (UTC)I've always really liked Alex Raven. I'm glad she lives and I'm glad she and Duncan did not have a romance, although Duncan looks like he wouldn't have minded lol.
Of the season 6 female immortals episodes, she's always been one of my favs.
Forgot about the katana vid in the middle of the ep! Loved the horseback riding. Loved Alex's background -- she's quite old. Perhaps my biggest critique of the episode is that it's a pretty recycled plot line, but really I don't mind that since such horrors and thievery can always stand to be retold.

Date: 2016-09-12 05:00 pm (UTC)Interesting, I didn't love Alex as much as I remembered loving her. I do like the actress, but some of the dialogue they gave her was really cheesy. Her boyfriend in the second fb didn't have much to recommend him, either. I like her clothes, though! And she had good chemistry with Adrian. Good physicality, too. I think the character wasn't well-developed, and rehashed several ideas from earlier in the series, but I hope that if she'd had her own show, they would have done better.
I want to use the clip of Duncan standing between the white columns in a vid.
I liked the reveal that Duncan's friend was going to come clean and return the money, and that's why his grandson killed him. The dialogue between Duncan and Alex over the hood of Duncan's car was good, where he talks about everyone rewriting their history so they can live with it. He's obviously struggling with that.
Fun to see him fight without the sword. And I liked his banter with Alex. They seemed to write Alex much like they would have written Amanda—I think James Thorpe wrote "Money No Object"?—it shows.
LOVE Duncan cracking the safe and saying that a friend taught him (and how perfect that it was a WWII-era safe, I think? When he was running around Germany with Amanda.)
I love his "some other time" at the end. It's always a little fun when someone turns Duncan down for a date—doesn't happen often! And poignant to see him trying to make a new connection.
ETA: On a shallow level, I must say that short-haired Duncan is so attractive. I love his hair. And he looks so amazing in this episode in particular. Thank you, Dennis Berry, for the shot of Duncan in light-colored slacks bending over the hood of his car. I think all philosophical discussions on HL should be filmed this way. Two thumbs up!
