Vault 4 is a location in the Fallout Television Series.

Background[edit]

Vault 4 is a Vault-Tec Vault, run by scientists. It is model 96JQ1164[1] and featured three foot thick lead casing.[2] Before the Great War, Overseer Lloyd Hawthorne is seen in a Vault-Tec advertisement with his children and wife Cassandra, joined by movie star Cooper Howard. The Hawthornes state that 80 volunteers, including their family, were already living in the vault as part of a five year trial.[3]

After the destruction of Shady Sands, many of the town's former inhabitants flocked to the Vault as refugees. Lucy and Maximus visit it in S1E6 - The Trap after traveling through the ruins of Shady Sands.

Experiment[edit]

Vault 4 was specifically designed to genetically alter its inhabitants in order to enhance their resistance to radiation. Vault-Tec designed the vault to create a new generation of humanity capable of thriving in the post-apocalyptic wasteland. Both of the Hawthornes are subsequently killed by their creation, a human hybrid known as the Gulper, with their last moments caught on holotape. Inhabitants of Vault 4 including Overseer Benjamin and Birdie show the holotape to Lucy MacLean in an attempt to show the vault's original purpose.
