Ian Jackson is a deceased Vault-Tec employee and former Overseer of Vault 32 in the Fallout Television Series.
Background[edit]
A former junior executive before the Great War, Jackson was part of Bud Askins' assistant training program, known as Bud's Buds.[1] At the onset of the war, he, along with the rest of the Buds, entered Vault 31, where he was cryogenically frozen in preparation for the future. The purpose of Bud's Buds was to breed the Buds with the dwellers of Vaults 32 and 33 over time, developing a new class of "super managers."
He was later reactivated and transferred to Vault 32, where he became Overseer. During his tenure, infighting broke out among the inhabitants after they learned the truth about their Vault's purpose. Residents killed one another and attempted to gain entrance to Vault 31.
News of Jackson's death was later relayed to Overseer Hank MacLean of Vault 33 through telegrams sent via the Vault's messaging system. During the Triennial Trade between Vaults 33 and 32, MacLean offers his condolences to Lee Moldaver, who poses as the new Overseer of Vault 32 but is actually the leader of a group of Raiders that has infiltrated the Vault. Moldaver then claims that Jackson was one of many victims who fell to a wheat blight.[2]
Vault 33 inhabitants Norm and Chet sneak into Vault 32 and find Jackson deceased in his office, with "DEATH TO MANAGEMENT" painted on the wall. Jackson is smiling, tied to the chair with his hand positioned in a thumbs-up gesture, and several bottles of Economy Wonderglue are on the desktop.[3] His remains were removed when Vault 32 was cleaned up before its resettlement by Vault 33, and his terminal was destroyed.[4]

Bud Askins: "You'll never find out. Oh, he's gonna find out. These are Bud's Buds. My Buds. America outsourced the survival of this country to the private sector. But it would have been insane to keep a failed nation alive. So, we kept Vault-Tec alive instead. A well-trained staff of highly supervised junior executives from my own assistant training program. Because the future of humanity comes down to one word: Management."
