| For the Gun Runners' Arsenal version of this weapon, see Hunting Revolver (GRA). |
The Hunting Revolver is a pistol in Fallout: New Vegas.
Gameplay[edit]
The Hunting Revolver is a large, double-action revolver that fires .45-70 Gov't ammunition. It has a scope attached by default, which grants a decent magnification at 2.46x. The revolver's base damage of 58 is the second highest of any non-energy pistol, and is surpassed only by the Ranger Sequoia. The weapon has a few drawbacks, including its low durability compared to other revolvers, and the relative scarcity of its ammunition type.
Durability[edit]
The Hunting Revolver can fire a total of about 545 standard rounds, the equivalent of 109 reloads, from full condition before breaking.
| Ammunition Type | Durability | |
|---|---|---|
| Shots | Reloads | |
| Standard & HP | 545 | 109 |
| SWC | 179 | 36 |
Variants[edit]
- Ranger Sequoia - a rare, more powerful, yet less valuable non-scoped version of the Hunting Revolver used by NCR Veteran Rangers.
- Hunting Revolver (GRA) - a customizable variant added with the Gun Runners' Arsenal DLC.

Behind the Scenes[edit]
Joshua Sawyer has stated that the Hunting Revolver is based on the Magnum Research BFR, with elements taken from the Bison Bull as well.[Dev 1][Dev 2]
Bugs[edit]
If loading a saved game from the main menu in which you have a Hunting Revolver equipped and drawn, the reload animation takes twice as long as normal. This can be solved by simply switching to another gun and then back again.

Joshua Sawyer: "They're based on the Magnum Research BFR with a little bit of the short-lived Bison Bull."

Because our weapons must, for technical reasons, occasionally differ functionally from the weapons upon which they are based (different caliber, charging handle placement, receiver height, stock shape/length, etc.) giving them a more utilitarian name helps negate some of the potential pedantry over those deviations.
There are no AR-15s, Colt Commandos, Browning Hi-Powers, BFRs, M1 Garands, Winchester 1886s, 1887s, or 1892s in Fallout: New Vegas -- just Service Rifles, Assault Carbines, 9mm Pistols, Hunting Revolvers, This Machine, Brush Guns, Lever-Action Shotguns, and Cowboy Repeaters.
That's also why there are no M1911s or Thompsons in Honest Hearts, but you'll find plenty of .45 Auto Pistols and .45 Auto Submachine Guns."
