Pinterest Hack Fail
January 29th, 2019 04:47 pmI swear, when I get in later, I just can't even do anything except flop mindlessly on the nearest piece of furniture. I meant to post this yesterday, but it was a late night, so that didn't happen.
Onward.
Ever since she started working, my niece has given me Bath & Body Works 3-wick candles for events, birthday and Christmas. When they burned down, I just threw the glass in the recycling bin. But then I saw a Pinterest thing where you could turn them into cute storage, and I was kicking myself!
The Pinterest thing said to get the wax out of them, then attach a knob to the top.
Pinterest said just stick them in the freezer (the hack) and the wax at the bottom will pop right out. This is incorrect as the wicks are held in place by that sort of stretchy adhesive (the kind that keeps credit cards/gift cards in place) and freezing it had no effect on that. Making sure to let the glass come back to room temperature, I put it in a sauce pan and gradually brought it to a boil. Using a plastic knife, I was able to get most of the was out and scrape up that adhesive.
After that, I let the glass come back down to room temperature and then put it back in the freezer. The wax didn’t really crack and pop out, except around the edges. So back into the water. Once the wax softened, I was able to get it off with paper towels, glass cleaner, and elbow grease. Then I gave it one last wash in the sink.
It’s now holding a quantity of the excess washi tape I’ve somehow acquired. See previous post about washi tape.
