08:41 pm - SPN 510
I know I'm late, but I just finally watched it (was in full-on Yuletide-source-review mode until yesterday)...

04:48 pm - I never could bring myself to delete this icon
Sickness struck, it felt like, between one breath and the next at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday. I spent yesterday at home feeling kinda miserable and catching up on The Daily Show.

I also watched SPN 505, and ended up with these sort of babbly thoughts about everything leading up to now:

Let's start at the beginning... )

Looking back, I miss doing the picspams.

Anyway. This morning, I suddenly needed to watch Nightshifter. I don't know. But pulling out my S2 DVDs, I realized I couldn't not watch In My Time of Dying, and who could turn down Sammy's issues with clowns, and then there's Dean's contempt for cops, and never ever count out the power of a running slide, and my plan for the day turned into watching a lot of Winchesters. (Not-so-random observation: they lit Dean well in S2. Not that they don't now, but, yeah.)

12:15 pm - fives make it easier
1. When I rule the world, there will be a rule for library book sales: the people who are there only to pick out three gazillion books to resell are NOT allowed in on the first day. Grr.

2. So far (two and a half episodes in), The National Parks are likely the most fascinating LONGEST hours of my life. Honestly, every half hour feels like at least an hour. Is that because I'm depressed by just how little the arguments for and against have changed in 150 years?

3. Rain, bah.

4. Small children, yay.

5. I know I haven't really talked about this, but SPN S5 = \o/! in my book. And a thought following 504: omg, a thought! )

08:08 am - today isn't tomorrow because I'm not packed
I have to find a way to not do this to myself again next year (watching as it's airing is always an idea!), but at least I managed to finish SPN S4 before VVC instead of at it, downing 414-422 in two nights, because that happened and I couldn't stop there, and then THAT happened and OMG WHAT, and ::FLAIL::

Also, I just realized I forgot to say here, SYTYCD winner = who I've wanted since the Top 10 and who deserves it even more than I thought then, and \o/

09:53 pm - realizations (baseball-heavy edition)
1) For anyone who ever felt Daniel was totally justified for wondering about that thing on Teal'c's face, well, WTF is that THING on Franklin's (NL pitcher's) face? Anyone in St. Louis care to comment?

2) I have less and less time to get through SPN S4 by the day (OMGVVC). I've finally determined that I fell hopelessly behind at 413, but now that I've gotten the fandom mostly out of my sight, I actually think I'm going to start over.

3) I like solving problems. Not that this is news, or anything, but today's problem was once again Notes having a two-step process that Microsoft decided to make SEVEN STEPS in Outlook, and I figured out how to create a new button and assign it a new command, giving a ton of people back their two-step process. That made my day.

4) 2013? FOX owns the rights to all the big-ticket baseball events until 2013? ::cries::

5) After waking up at freaking 5 a.m., I'm pretty much just trying to stay conscious until they put Wake in.

February 15th, 2009

08:53 pm - How is it still February?
I have completely caught up with Legend of the Seeker now, because it was good background for getting a crochet project as done as I can get it until I acquire more yarn. After Episode 8, I had the disturbing realization that I remember more of the source material than I thought I did. In fact, Wikipedia informs me that I read more than just the first book. I was in high school! A condition that can also be blamed for my familiarity with herald mages! Anyway, I am truly thankful to the creators that the show is deviating from the books in many ways -- basically only taking what it wants from the plot of the books, and writing its own story with those elements. Seriously, thank you.

p.s., why does Hulu not always put the commercial breaks where the commercial breaks are? Do it do that for all shows? Because damn, breaking up the intended narrative flow like that is almost as irritating as putting commercials into BBC shows.

I've also been catching up with SPN. I'm now only one and three-quarters episodes behind. The three-quarters is because I can't seem to make it through 413, which would make it the first that I haven't been able to finish, but. Well, I'll put the rest behind a cut tag.

It's not an objection to the plot or anything, but there are spoilers. )

Next job: catching up on Life.

Oh, and I'm not even going to try Dollhouse until it's been around for more than six episodes. Sorry, I don't love Joss enough to take a chance on Fox.

***

Completely non-television related news that I don't feel like making a separate post for: Snow and/or ice are still blocking quite a number of paths and sidewalks, but I went for a walk today. A 1 mile, no-stopping-at-any-point walk. My ankle did not swell up or give me grief. Tomorrow I shall try it again. And, if I get the same results, again the day after. It keeps this up for a week, I'll go for 2 miles. You have no idea how exciting this is.

11:09 am - only three more days 'til I can't change my mind
Yuletide signup = done. I have offered two fandoms that I never would have thought to until I apparently lost my mind. Why am I even signing up, when I haven't been able to write a lick of fic for oodles of months, you ask? GOOD QUESTION.

Feeling slow and fuzzy today. Like: haven't gotten out of my pjs because it's too much work. Didn't even get out of bed until after 8, and I didn't know I could still do that.

Play-bonus money from work is super, but I can't decide what to do with it. Oh, the pain.

I have taught myself to crochet a shell stitch! I even managed to transition between a double crochet and the shell, but I haven't yet tried to transition back.

Still president-elect. \o/

Life continues to be mostly happy-making and slightly confounding.

I'm fairly sure that the only reason to watch Blake's 7 is to play "oh, THAT'S where that character/trope came from." I'm almost positive that my first impression should not be "I want Avon to meet Ida."

Dean and Sam still both need a hug. (And Edlund is still a sick, sick man.)

12:45 pm - Sunday miscellany
[livejournal.com profile] cofax7 reminded me that I needed to go to Trader Joe's, and I have made the perfect fall noshing discovery: Asiago cheese, Genoa salami, sweet potato chips, and cider. YUM.

I've also been contemplating Linens 'n' Things going out of business, and realized that other than the pretty colors and the status symbol of having one of those huge Kitchenaid mixers, I think I'd rather buy this. My parents' avocado green version is still alive and kicking, and works just fine for everything I can imagine doing.

Okay, The Real Housewives of Atlanta terrifies me. Possibly the entire Real Housewives... series, but this is the first of any of it that I've seen, and this woman just spent more on a car than I make in a year!

Finally, some real tv thoughts:

Life 201-203 )

SPN 407 )

10:09 pm - it isn't allowed to stop being fall yet
I fail at Yuletide nominations every year. I have plenty of "so obscure that they're not yet on the dropdown" things that I enjoy, most of them book-based, but I do not want fic for them.

I should say something about the Sox, so: they did far better than I expected given their state, I am incredibly proud of them, and I hope the off season is a restful and health-making one.

I've had one major thought on SPN 405: seriously, just one )

Finally, I think Tigger likes peanut butter. I don't believe there's anything else that could possibly be smelled/licked/rubbed against on my fingers right now, anyway.

12:20 pm - it's that time of year again
I am afraid to say anything. I felt like this would happen (blowing out the Angels before spending the ALCS on the brink of elimination is now officially a trend, right?), but omg. I will admit that I faded out on the couch and only woke up when my tv started screaming, but you betcha I'm doing whatever I can to stay up for the rest.

Other things I have no control over: went back to the orthopedist this morning. After weeks of ankle happiness as my physical therapist moved on from treating symptoms to treating the cause, my ankle decided NO WAIT HAVE MORE PAIN, and she had to go back to treating issues that we had thought were gone. Bah. So I will hear later today (I hope) on the scheduling of an MRI, and we will go from there. The complicating factor is that I'm near the end of my health care-sanctioned therapy sessions, and while they will grant more if it looks like the therapy is helping, that's not likely in the current backslid state. Whatever the results of the MRI, my ortho and PT are hoping they can rejigger the PT prescription in such a way that the health care will say, "Well, in that case..." ::sigh:: Having health care is good, but using it can be a prime lesson in working the system.

And as for the bit I can control: I'm working from home today, but I likely still won't see last night SPN until tonight; there's something just not right about watching it during daylight.

08:33 pm - Of baseball and SPN
Watching the Phillies beat the Dodgers (and now a teeeny weeeny little reporter interviewing the 6'5" giant that is Brad Lidge, omg, if we ever needed proof that Dean really isn't short, look right there, folks!), and hoping like hell that the Phillies win the NLCS. Whether or not the Sox make it to the World Series, I DO NOT WANT to hear about Manny making it. Which we will. Oops, and now the Sox-Rays is starting. Oh, for crying out loud, two seconds in, and these come-lately fans littering the freaking dome are going to drive me nuts. At least the ALCS is on TBS instead of FOX, so I won't be seeing quite as much of them.

SPN 404 )

And, huh, just realized, while watching (of all things) a Bank of America commercial, that there actually is one thing that I can imagine getting as a tattoo. I am less of a fan of needles than I am of pain, so I doubt it will ever happen, but. Huh. Maybe one this big.

06:57 pm - consumables, some of them
It's raining. Still. There were no more apples this weekend. Fingers crossed for next weekend! But hey, I used to talk about tv on the internet, didn't I? Let's see whether I still know how.

The New stuff: Fringe, Knight Rider )

The Thank Goodness It's Returned stuff: SPN, Dancing with the Stars )

The Finished or Almost Finished stuff: Burn Notice, Avatar, Project Runway, Middleman )

eta Oh, wow, I forgot SCC! my brain, it is soggy and not robot-like )

And Life is starting again soon, right? Or did I miss that, too, and not notice?

01:42 pm - confession time
I am caught up again with SPN (although I was less not-caught up than I thought I was, oops), because [livejournal.com profile] barkley is made of convincing. Watch out for that. Anyway, I am happy, and I care not where the rest of fandom is on this.

That's not much of a confession, really, and the rest of this shouldn't be, either. See, I went to the Honda Civic Tour with [livejournal.com profile] thepouncer and many other assorted fangirls in DC last Wednesday, and on top of having a new appreciation for The Hush Sound, I am now firmly in love with Panic. It's allowed! Pouncer then promised me fun if we ignored all common sense and went to College Park for Cobra Starship at the University of Maryland, and, um, okay. Now I get it. Tell me true, is it pheromones? Because in two hours I went from only a knowledge of "Gabe = basement & VickyT = hotness on Legs" to incoherent "!!!!" about the whole damn band. What? No, seriously, what the hell happened there? Now I have MCR in Philly tonight, for which it would really help if I were to get dressed, I suspect. But I feel so much better today than I did yesterday (note to self: never call in sick, because guess what, you get sick), and it's sunny but breezy, and MCR is what started this all for me and I do believe \o/ is called for. So, yeah. Ignore the subject line.

11:04 am - sharp things with pointiness
I'm home. Working here today for reasons that apparently would have been rendered moot if I'd just spoken up. But it's a big head high person in Europe! I'm too new to tell him I'll call him after he's eaten dinner! I now have orders to do so next time, so, you know, nice guy, but day at home, woot.

While I'm still working on that attempt to catch up with other media, I'm pretty permanently time shifted for the time being. Which might be a good thing, now that I think about it. Yes, I support the writers, because, 'scuse me, what the hell? But still, ack, my shows!

Being home today, however, means I have seen and flailed at last night's SPN, and...oh, I don't feel cut-tagging anything, not even the question from the first ten minutes that I suppose imdb will answer. Anyway. [livejournal.com profile] yuletide has first priority over everything else fannish right now, but one of my goals for this SPN hiatus is to catch up on picspams, if only because I could use more doses of the eye candy. A question for those who wander, though: there was a convention, I gather, with pictures and reports, and okay, please, tell me they're safe? Or am I going to be side-stepping spoilers all over, in my day of cut-tag clicking freedom?

Other things that could be called exciting (since I just realized how long it's been since I last updated), include a daytrip that included both insanity and puppies, with pictures to come. And I got stabbed with a needle the other day. First flu shot ever, but there's no shortage this time when they were offering it for free; I told her not to tell me when, just stick me; now if I get sick, I'm going to be really very annoyed; and I've got another question. I know there's sometimes soreness at the point of jabbing, but is it normal for it to not be sore until two days later? For the record, there never was any bruising, I'm not feeling any other side effects, and I didn't get a lollipop.

...I should go catch up on comments. I've got to do a bit more work type stuff, but yeah, that is actually fannish priority #1.

08:01 am - SPN 302 HR picspam
I am making headway on catching up on comments to the visibility post! Really!

But that can only happen when I'm online, whereas this can happen offline...for the most part, which means I'm just making it in under the wire on getting this one up, but here it is. Once again, caps from [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis, futzed with by me. Although if there were an HR file that wasn't an .mkv, I'd have grabbed a couple caps of my own, this time. Gnargh, technology.

However you spell it, 'alright' isn't the word I'd use. )

01:24 pm - SPN 301 HR picspam
I'll be doing my damnedest this season to keep up with the picspams during their correct week(s). Which is a goal that shouldn't be a goal -- it should just happen -- but hey, life. The main reason for this is that I suspect the picspams are going to be my sole episode commentary, because I also suspect that I'll stress less that way.

Unless I'm finding myself with tons more time than I expect I'll have, this means that except for when there's a moment that I noticed but that no one caught, and that I absolutely must have it or die, I'll be using caps from other people in the interest of speed. This week, they're from [livejournal.com profile] oxoniensis, although I've tweaked them down in size to about "standard" HR (if the HR copy comes at 1280x720 every week, though, reevaluating may happen).

Anyway, enough babbling. On with the show.

Hell, I'm a fan of all seven. )

04:42 pm - previously intended topics
Best way to say it is to just say it. I'm moving back to Boston in the middle of August. There is yay, there is boo, there is a nightmare of logistics and physics, and there is VVC in the meantime, where I am going to be sparkly and have fun.

In SPN-land, [livejournal.com profile] kernezelda and [livejournal.com profile] hossgal wanted to know why I was so happy about the positioning of the participants in the cap below from Heart, and I'm not thrilled with how uncomfortable I've become about posting anything more than superficial thoughts or opinions in this fandom, so instead of putting this in a comment...

unprofessional opinion )

p.s. -- fuck, I paged up before really seeing anything, but the first couple of episode titles for S3 are out, huh? Anyone else who doesn't want to know them, time to watch your step again around IMDb &tc.
