09:49 pm - late birthday fic I'd actually written this before commodoresexual posted her lovely Eyes Meet this afternoon, but clearly the thought of how well these two faced off without swords has been running around in the ether. Anyway, I don't know that it's long enough to deserve this formal treatment, but...
Title: Sparring Partners Rating: PG-13 Notes: A snippet for fabu, who, for her birthday, requested "Norrington swordfighting with Jack, line: 'No quarter given.'" It's a moment out of time, falling within no specific PotC fic universe. I'm sure someone, somewhere has used the title before. And any and all mistakes about the practicalities of sword fighting are mine.
( Sparring Partners )
Oy. Now I've got the itch to pick up after Bedevil. (Which I just discovered I haven't posted to my site. Eep. Time for another update, I guess.)

06:33 pm - another round of "my character..." -- Pirate style (Completely off-topic, but bless Jon Stewart and The Daily Show writers.)
I've been thinking about this since fabu started posting the fic examples of her vision of the PotC characters. Actually, I've been thinking about it since we did that round of "my character x" for Stargate, Farscape and Alias the other month. firesignwriter's post yesterday was just the proverbial straw.
None of these thoughts are anywhere near complete, since I was writing them in between (and sometimes during) sessions at a conference, but here goes:
( a few of the lads )
Meant to get to others, but phooey on all-day conferences in freezing-cold rooms when I woke up with the sniffles. I'm going to go find chicken soup.

04:45 pm - Fic. Not into PotC? Keep going. First off, a little neurotic babble about what follows. ( feel free to skip if you don't want to listen to my idiocy )
Doesn't have a title. Will probably get messed with again at some later time. Norrington/Sparrow. NC-17.
ETA: Has a title now, so I'll do this properly.
Title: Bedevil Author: elishavah Rating: NC-17 Pairing: Norrington/Sparrow Summary: No one can direct a change in the tides. Notes: fabu says, "Wall!kink!" My brain thinks, "Oooh." You pay attention to the rating. Thanks: To Mel for the enthusiastic beta/push and to firesignwriter for some truly effective cheerleading. Disclaimer: Disney keeps a tight hold on everything.
( and on to the story )

04:59 pm - when officials grandstand It's not nearly as much fun as when they attack, believe you me.
Anyway, because I was stuck in a hearing -- waiting pretty much fruitlessly for someone to say something they hadn't said before, and not having access to the story files themselves -- my run at the WIP meme:
( far too many fandoms, and none are cooperating )

09:57 pm - a voice from the northland Everyone who contributed music ideas the other day, thank you. I dug out a couple of old CDs, which was great. But I also put together a couple of mix CDs off of the totally new (to me) artists, and they made my drive. Well, a beautiful day also did that, but even bright sunshine can't help when you're bouncing along what is laughingly labeled a highway. Sheesh. I knew there was a reason I usually took the Taconic or Saw Mill parkways through New York: 684 is a hole. Several of them, currently. Still, I made it to Boston in just under seven hours. Damn good. The fact that I kept looking down and discovering I was almost at 90 mph because I was keeping up with everyone around me probably had something to do with that.
kixxa, apathocles...maybe. Maybe. I'll think about it. The deadline to sign up isn't for another few weeks, right?
I saw other stuff to comment on during a quick skim (*hugs* to both commodoresexual and tempe for not altogether unrelated reasons), but I'll try to catch up with LJ on Monday while everyone here is at work and I'm trying to decide how many of my childhood memories I can keep in my head instead of in physical form.
My parents have found a new place, by the way. It's weird seeing empty bookshelves and tons and tons of boxes everywhere. Since I know a lot of you will appreciate this -- They already have 100 boxes filled with books. And not all the books are packed yet.
And since I don't know when I'll get a chance to get online tomorrow -- Happy Birthday, firesignwriter! I can't do anything as personally interesting as my present, but I do have a PotC snippet that I'd done for an old contrelamontre challenge (the topic was "earth"). I never posted it because it was more a challenge for myself -- to see what would happen if I tried writing fic in under an hour, the way I sometimes have to toss stories together for work -- but now seems like a good time.
( They met on dry land )
Oh, and not really a GIP what with all the above, but new icon thanks to a picture that KJ posted the other week. Couldn't resist doing something with it.

12:49 am - ooh, presents! Today was expected-but-unexpected present day.
I arrived at home to find some lovely gifts from eretria in my mail box. I just hope that what I sent gets to Germany as quickly. Now I'm going to have to find another postcard to send, though, because the one I received was huuuuge.
And you know you're a geek when you're excited about getting a copy of The Iliad in the mail. Don't worry about the timing, amylud. Fortunately, I'm no longer at the mercy of assignments with deadlines when it comes to this book. *g*
To continue the spirit of giving, a little something for firesignwriter, who needed a pick-me-up.
A couple of notes: This started out as an attempt at a snippet of smut. Really. It...kind of got away from me. Some AU, sort of shaped by KJ's Full Moon universe, but really, I have no idea when/where this is. Just go with it. Considering the historical issues, posting this completely without a beta might not be the best idea I've ever had. And just so you know, it's does in fact head into R territory, but I'm tired enough it's not going to make it to NC-17. *g*
( so...my first time with the commodore and the pirate )
And because this is a wonderful time of year: Mmmm, Thin Mint ice cream.
