somein30 is on its second summer hiatus rewind, and that means I can redo earlier challenges. There's only one challenge I skipped (iirc), and I still don't want to do that (it was the music genre challenge), so I'm doing challenges I've already done before. The first one I picked is Challenge #13, Icon Crossing. For this challenge, you need to randomize your own icons into 20 pairs and then create new icons based on characteristics of each pair.

This month's challenge at somein30 is called Memory Lane, and the normal mode asked for "fandoms that were important to you at some point, organized in a timeline".

I took this challenge *very literally* and started with my first fandom, and then tried to make an icon for my fave fandom for every single year since. I also tried to represent its essence, i.e. exactly what I liked about it. You guessed it, it's mostly romance! :D

The old fandoms were pretty hard to find caps for, that was a challenge all in itself. The first one I made my own caps for is CSI (in 2004). But otoh, I found that someone uploaded all the scenes of my favorite Santa Barbara pairing to youtube. O_o (Yes, I lost some time to that. Oops.)

I tried to make a complete timeline, but I didn't *quite* make it. For one, I had to stop after 20 (in 2009) or I wouldn't have made the deadline, and for another, I can't remember which fandoms I had in 1993/1994. It was before the Internet. I have no records (and no memories). ;)

Well, mostly May, since I made barely any icons in June. June (and July) are always the busiest months of the year for me, so I dialed back on making icons.

Challenge #12 "Inspired by" is based off the inspiration posts everyone made earlier in the year. I wanted to really challenge myself and do botanical icons as per applepips16's beautiful inspiration post. It turned out I couldn't do it. Floral compositions are haaaard. //) I only managed three (and the third one is already borderline... non-botanical). So I ended up with a set based on a few other inspiration posts. But it's a full set, so... it could be worse. :D

Plus three iZombie icons from tvlims (where I got thrown out after the fourth round). Hmpf.

Icons I made for communities last month that I didn't post to my journal...

This month's challenge at theiconthrone was to make icons from screencaps the community members chose. There were tons of caps, but I had a hard time motivating myself for this. I'm not good at using predefined caps, usually. For some reason, the first four of those came out gorgeous. *g* Maybe it's the HQ source material, maybe I just got into it once I commited myself to a cap, I don't know.

After that phase was done, my muse suddenly left me. Those are the second row (*cough*). Then I whined about the challenge a bit at house_bright, and got help! I love you guys! Thank you for all the good inspiring answers! I managed a few more because of you!

I'm posting all my icons again here, because they just look better in the table. :)

The idea was to icon shows that aired in the 90s. I'm old ;P and it appealed to me to revisit some old favorites.

The battle was fun and frustrating at the same time, because I don't have HQ images of any of those shows - or, more accurately, I didn't have them with me three weeks ago. //( Bad timing on my part. So I had to do it using google resources. I think some of them turned out nice, though, and I especially love the John/Aeryn OTP icon. The ep doesn't even qualify for the battle, because it aired in 2002, but I really wanted to reicon it, so I did it anyway. I've made an icon of that exact cap three times now, and this time I really love the result. Finally!

Almost Human 1x01 - 1x06 - horrible women, but cool. Not sure it'll last long for me, though.
Vampire Diaries 4x16 - Attempt at a catch-up after skipping a season
Lie To Me 1x01 - 1x03 - Quite good.
Game of Thrones 2x08 - 3x04 - surprise end-of-the-year guest :) - still good

My main addiction this year was definitely Supernatural, with a major return of my love of Destiel. I did quite a few fannish things for it at episodic_supernatural.
