My second monthly fic rec post! So far I feel motivated to do this - let me know if you like it, please? I didn't get a single comment on my last post, but that is not deterring me yet.

The last month was very stressful for me, and it led to a lot of icons but not as much fic reading as I would have liked. My main fannish disappointment was Timeless - the season started out okay-ish but turned into a total mess very quickly. So I have been looking for fic to fix it. The problem is that they pretty much destroyed Wyatt's character this season, so I really didn't want to read any of the lovey-dovey fic this fandom keeps churning out. Neither am I a Garcia/Lucy fan, especially since the show has been pushing it a bit this season - probably as an attempt to rile up the Lyatt shippers. I don't really know how it happened, but apparently the only way out of my dilemma was to go for the threesome fic. They call it Trash Fire OT3 for a reason. ;D

Of course, there is not all that much of it, but there is one very prolific author, and she writes it so well!

Her fic has been my lifeline this month, especially the wip for which she keeps faithfully posting a new chapter (almost) every day. I've been drowning in it and I don't want to come out again. :) I don't think I need to rec everything she wrote - if you like her style, you'll have no problem finding the rest. This means there aren't five fics this month, just four. You know what? I haven't yet recced the Teen Wolf fic I read in February. So make this number five:

My opinion: I didn't want to read it at first, because it sounds so fluffy-tropey, but I guess the repeated tumblr posts made me click on it after all. (I am following sergeant-santiago on tumblr. She makes great gifs.) And it's not bad at all! I'm a sucker for slow burn. *g* It's not finished, of course, and she only posts a new chapter about every four weeks, but I found myself looking forward to it anyway. I like her characterization of both Amy and Jake. (Also, Boyle!)

My opinion: This is the fic that I am addicted to right now. It really reads like Indiana Jones. I love how the story jumps between the present and flashbacks, slowly revealing the course of their relationship (and what went wrong). It's totally going to have a happy ending, I'm sure of that, and I'm looking forward to new chapters every day.

Summary:

Stiles meets his future husband on a rather unspectacular Wednesday.

My opinion: I got alerted to this fic because I'm subscribed to the author, who has written a ton of great Sterek. This fic starts on the crackiest of premises: Stiles falls in love with Derek on the subway, but Derek is always asleep there. Of course Derek falls in love, too, despite being asleep. My favorite parts of this whole story are those where we see Derek express his love through art, trying to picture Stiles in his artwork despite never having seen him. Also, hot sex, typically taciturn Derek, and endlessly babbling but competent Stiles.

Here come all the icons I made for challenges this year so far. I should learn one day to post them before they reach the 100 mark. ;D

I've made quite a few icons over the last few months for communities that required not telling anyone they were mine - like the second round of 100x100mystery, or just required posting them somewhere else 1,2,3 at a time, like paintedpixels. Now I've collected them here and sorted them by fandom. The Deadpool icons are from my first-time participation in a LIMS (last icon maker standing) community, lims_movie, and I made it to round 4, which I'm pretty happy about. Enjoy!

This was the first challenge I signed up for this month, technique20in20, and I am still torn about all the other challenges I had to skip because of it. *sigh* The icon maker community is so active right now, and here I thought it was good last year. But this year, so many comms have come back after a hiatus of two years, this one included, and they all see high participation. So awesome.

Even though I would have liked to do a lot more, and my muse just wasn't cooperating, which you can probably tell from some of these, the challenge was fun! Lots of challenging themes (round 7 info post here), and no fandom to stick to, so I could just icon whatever the hell I pleased, which worked out great. I'm not able to do 100% Librarians right now, my excitement for that show is still teetering on the edge, and I don't know on which side it's going to come down, so doing icons in whatever fandom came to mind was really freeing. I think even though there are a few duds, some others turned out great, and I'm quite happy with the set.

Okay, so I succumbed to temptation again... season20in20 is doing a special challenge this month where you can icon lots of different shows, and I was bummed that I couldn't participate because I had no time. Tonight, I saw that the deadline had been extended, so I signed up after all.

This means all these icons (except four I made during the week) were made tonight. The whole challenge took me two hours. It's visible in their simplicity, but I actually quite like the results. I wasn't trying to impress anyone, I was just having fun.

The set includes 1 or more icons from: Angel, Buffy, Daredevil, ER, Falling Skies, Firefly, Game of Thrones, Jane the Virgin, Outlander, Sense8, Sleepy Hollow, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, The Librarians, White Collar, and the X-Files.

My second 20in20 community this month: season20in20 round 55. My claim was - surprise! - The Librarians (season1). The TeeWo icons are there because one of the challenges was "stolen claim" and I 'stole' TeeWo 3b.

I'm especially happy with my artist's choice icons and the text only icon. Another cool side-effect: I made a new Photoshop action for "yellow" icons. Hee. I'm still having fun iconing this show, although I'm now pretty much at the end of my Flynn Carsen caps.

Which sounds weird, coming from me, who does nothing but rec hot fics. *g* Well, the story probably would have made its way to you without me, seeing as it was finished a week ago and already has 100k hits and over 1000 comments. O_o

My opinion: What did bother me about the fic, to get that out of the way, is the drinking and the weed. In every other respect, the fic is perfect. Stiles has internalized homophobia like woah, and Derek is just cute and romantic. It starts out as jerk-off sessions and escalates more and more until they're hopelessly in love with each other and not talking to each other about it. All of it perfectly shown not told. Everyone is really well characterized - Scott, Lydia and Danny, too. And on top of all that, the fic is very funny.
Quote: Have a representative quote from chapter 1, their 'first time' from Stiles's POV:

It’s not like it’s hard to pay attention to pornography. And he’s not having a problem with it or anything. But truth be told, this was maybe a weird idea. And he’ll blame the fucking cat for it.

Really, he and Scott haven’t done this since they were, like, sixteen. Maybe fifteen. And they'd been facing opposite directions. But Stiles always gets weird ideas when he’s drunk, and the cat was egging him on, and here he is, in close proximity to a dude he knows-but-doesn’t, mutually getting off.

It’s not that weird. It’s not a gay thing, at least.

Story: That Which You Cannot Undo (28181 words) by uraneia

Author's Summary: By twenty-eight, Stiles has resigned himself to a quiet life of working in his magic shop, selling Jackson Whittemore fart-inducing tea, and looking after his goddaughter. It's a good life. But the quiet goes to hell when his sister, Lydia, shows up with a crispy werewolf in her trunk and a bite mark on her shoulder, because hard on her heels comes the hottest person Stiles has ever seen, and he happens to be looking for his uncle. You know, the dead guy Stiles helped Lydia bury last night.
My opinion: Beautiful love story with adult characters, and a spell that creates one of the best obstacles to a relationship I've ever seen: Stiles has put a spell on himself to never fall in love. There's some things I usually avoid like the plague, parenting and knotting, but both were done so well that I didn't run screaming. Stiles as a witch is just wonderful.

Story: Silver Road (11326 words) by appolsaucy

My opinion: Beautifully described sexual crisis for Derek, both characters are young and everything is so new and frightening. I like the way the story spans a long time (about a year), in which a lot happens in Derek's head, but it still leaves some things open. It's apparently written after a short film of the same name, but I can't say anything about that since I haven't seen it. which you can find on dailymotion, but it is only 13 minutes long and covers only the first part of the fic - and the fic does all the aftermath by itself.

I could go on about how I'm apparently completely crazy this week, but I'll just let my icon speak for itself.

I watched Dylan O'Brien's chick flick rom com teenie movie last week, and I don't want to keep its highlights from you. I'm not going into detail about the movie, but I didn't think they got anything completely wrong, the embarrassment squick is not overwhelming (if you don't count the fact that they're all supposed to be 16), and they do at least value romance and character above sex. So yeah, the movie isn't bad. Its real assets are these, obviously:
