Agents of SHIELD
Sep. 26th, 2013 08:07 pmputting absolutely everything under a cut
This pilot fell through for me on several points. And it started out so well in theory.
The things that bothered me:
* The violence with which Ward beat up his first two opponents
* Skye telling Ward that she finds him attractive (while being held hostage by him)
* Skye being all seductive around Ward and thrusting her cleavage into his face
* Coulson telling Fitz and... the other one that the solution to the problem was on them.
The first three annoyed me, but the last one is personal. You don't *ever* do that to people you're working with. You don't pressure them in a way that puts all the guilt on them. That's horrible leadership and I'm not putting up with it from Coulson.
The problem is that the setup was really good:
* Wow what a Bechdel test pass.
* All the old familiar faces from other Joss shows
* Coulson (In theory. His character went completely the other way from what I'd expected.)
* A science bros team talking all over each other (gotta give Joss that one)
* Joss's dialogue skills in general (a pity none of it struck me as particularly witty this time)
* A Scottish scientist with a droolworthy accent
Memorable things that were neither here nor there:
* Gadgets. Magic ("It's all science") gadgets. I *really* hate holographic crime scene reconstruction (ever since Bones, I guess).
* Lola (really? Didn't they have enough gadgets already?)
* The fact that they didn't kill Mike was nice, I'd just already given up by that point because I was still angry at Coulson.
* Almost all the good lines were in the trailer.
It was all there, it just didn't click for me.
For now I'm not convinced and I will not be watching that again. If it turns out that everyone else has a different opinion, and the fandom takes off like a rocket, I may be convinced to give it another try.

on 2013-09-26 06:50 pm (UTC)I already posted about this show where with some very slight differences I totally agree.
Like I said, I was totally underwhelmed. *g*
