20 old fandom icons for somein30

somein30 is called Memory Lane, and the normal mode asked for "fandoms that were important to you at some point, organized in a timeline".
I took this challenge *very literally* and started with my first fandom, and then tried to make an icon for my fave fandom for every single year since. I also tried to represent its essence, i.e. exactly what I liked about it. You guessed it, it's mostly romance! :D
The old fandoms were pretty hard to find caps for, that was a challenge all in itself. The first one I made my own caps for is CSI (in 2004). But otoh, I found that someone uploaded all the scenes of my favorite Santa Barbara pairing to youtube. O_o (Yes, I lost some time to that. Oops.)
I tried to make a complete timeline, but I didn't *quite* make it. For one, I had to stop after 20 (in 2009) or I wouldn't have made the deadline, and for another, I can't remember which fandoms I had in 1993/1994. It was before the Internet. I have no records (and no memories). ;)

They were happy in that baseball scene, yeah. I debated choosing one of the later ones, where they're kissing more, but I actually didn't even watch the last few seasons, so this one just resonated more with me. :)
Yeah, i found more fic in those old folders than caps! ;D

I love the soft hazy look on 5, the text use is awesome too, love the whimsical font. 7 has great text use too, the font is fun and I'm digging the posteresque look! During my scifi phase I always wanted to check out B5 but never got around to it, I guess you'd recommend it since it made this list?
The E.R. icon is great, I love this type of coloring that makes the chartacters stand out even though the real background is kept. The simple text works nicely too. The brush/texture work in 9 is great! Aahh Farscape, it's awesome that someone else knows and likes this show, it was so great. I love that you iconned them on Moya since that setting instantly brings all the memories <3
The BTVS icon is another standout to me, the muted coloring and soft lighting just work so well, and the flat what is a fun use of text :D
The last alt is gorgeous too, I really like the text and the textured overall look!

I wish I could have done that one per year thing, this looks so neat with just one most important fandom for each year!
It was such a tough choice! (Of course I was into each of these shows for more than a year, and distributing them so that each one got their own year that felt *right* in my memory was hard! I wish I had more from 1993 and 1994. I feel like Home Improvement might have beeen during that time? Hmmm. Too late. :D)

Ooooh, thank you! <3 Took me long enough to realize, but those cdramas I've been (almost exclusively) watching the last two years really work against me using text in icons, it's sad. It's not like cdrama doesn't have dialogue. ;) It's just that there are almost no recognizable quotes since subs are fickle things, not the same for every site, and they just don't stick in my memory. I should probably figure out how to get more creative with my text use for those. That's a goal for this year! :D
During my scifi phase I always wanted to check out B5 but never got around to it, I guess you'd recommend it since it made this list?
Yes, absolutely! I still recommend it, even after all this time. It was so well made, very character-driven, with absolutely fascinating different alien races, and it has Walther Koenig as an evil operative of a telepaths society (or something), and it has both slice-of-life things like daily life on a space station and really scif-fi-y things like time travel. It's definitely better story-wise than Farscape, if not as cracky or shippy - although it has a wonderfully slashy bromance.
The only downside is that they planned it for five years and then thought they'd have to cram the plot into 4 seasons - which they did, and then they got a fifth season after all, which makes the fifth season mostly plotless? That didn't work out so well. But the first four seasons contain the complete arc and are definitely recommended!
And it was written and produced by J. Michael Straczynski, who also did Sense8.

I wish I had had better caps to work with. :D I like that kind of style, too, but it needs caps with good background to really work.
