Named after its chemical composition containing yttrium and its similarity to Columbite.
First Recorded Locality:
Described by Lepierre (1937) from an unspecified pegmatite in the Alto Ligonha Pegmatite Field, Mozambique.
Said to resemble ampangabeite (discred. = samarskite-Y) (Dias Bettencourt & Wilson 2000).
