i love that tumblr uses polls for stuff like this
rule #1 of tumblr polls is NEVER include a joke option if you don't want it to win by a landslide because tumblr users have one committed relationship in their lives and it's to the bit

Team Green
I post alot so if you dont like that
Oh well
rule #1 of tumblr polls is NEVER include a joke option if you don't want it to win by a landslide because tumblr users have one committed relationship in their lives and it's to the bit
I DO think tumblr's dev team has been instructed to constantly implement new features and that's why they keep tweaking the UI in goofy ways. I imagine this is an upper management thing, so even if we say "well don't change anything and just maintain the status quo" they'll continue to make other changes anyway.
I will admit I REALLY like the recent improvements they've added to tumblr's search (you can exclude terms now!! you can search multiple tags!! and time frames!!) so it's not like they're incapable of adding useful features. it might be mutually beneficial for us as users if we were more vocal about things we want and don't want. Some features I'd like to see added:
several of these I've submitted support tickets for under "feedback", and if there's anything you feel strongly about I suggest you do too!
Just because I'm reblogging with these ideas doesn't mean I won't submit a support ticket but as someone with a mild metaphorical-addiction to Tumblr polls I'd be in favor of (within reason, y'know, I know they're probably not going to increase any of these massively and I don't want people using any massive increase to meme) more than 12 answer options per poll, more poll duration options than just 1 day, 3 days and one week and maybe at least somewhat of an increase in the poll-answer-option-blank-w/e character limit as there's plenty of my polls that have had to word an answer weird or have an explanation below the poll because proper phrasing is just, like, a few characters short or w/e
Other things I'd like to see
I actually NEED to refute your last bullet point. I almost mentioned it in my initial post in fact. I didn't end up mentioning anything about content moderation because hooooo boy that's it's own can of worms
please, tumblr,
users, you don't want this. this results in websites asking you to upload an ID to verify your age. which is something people have been jumping ship from discord for implementing.
tumblr has a place in settings for you to add your birthday, which they say is to send "birthday wishes" but I assume is also to determine if you're over 18. I refuse to fill this out because I am not giving tumblr analytics for free lol
As far as adult content, I think the safest option is a simple "are you over 18? (and thus consent to what you're about to see?)" button. Yes, minors could just lie, god knows I did that for years lmao, but even so, clicking the button means they KNOW what they're about to see and can prepare themselves accordingly. If someone has a bad reaction after agreeing to look at 18+ content, that is on them for agreeing to look at 18+ content. It should not be more complicated than this.
The above combined with adequate filtering options THAT DON'T GET THE POST DELETED/HIDDEN would be the ideal.
The thing is, tumblr can't just like,, allow adult content the way it used to. All websites/apps face a lot of pressure from apple and the like to keep their content "clean" in order to be allowed on their app stores. so as far as adult content filtering, they have to have SOMETHING. but you don't want to have to "prove you're over 18", and you DEFINITELY don't want to have to upload your ID
