I think a lot of people were raised being told that things are bad with no explanation as to why they’re bad and I don’t think I know enough about psychology to make any big statements about that
but anyways I think a lot of people see cheating on your partner as bad because they were just told that sex outside of your partner is bad or something but really cheating on your partner is bad because you had an agreement based on trust with them and you broke that trust so like why should they trust you with anything else now
The thing about taboos related to sex as well is that there’s a lot of diseases that can be transmitted through sex and in a world without condoms or antibiotics or super effective birth control it kind of makes sense to discourage people from sleeping around a lot because like. Abstinence only sex education is stupid but if you choose abstinence for yourself it is in fact very effective at preventing disease and pregnancy.
And if you have sex with someone other than your partner without telling them, well, then you’ve just exposed them to whatever diseases that other person might’ve been exposed to. That’s a risk they didn’t consent to.
But see explaining this to people makes too much sense I guess. Instead a lot of people are just like “sex bad” with no elaboration as to why they might be telling you that.
This feels similar to when cats see a prey in the distance and start to do that stange motion with their mouths and chirping/chattering
...pfft
He is trying so hard to be a good boy and be patient and not yell in the car. And ends up sounding like a rubber chicken stuck in a vacuum cleaner. It's the sweetest.
I know, right? He's trying SO HARD. He's just got so many Big Feelings about getting a pup cup (and getting to see all the people who tell him he is good and handsome) and he just can't keep them inside.
I cannot stress enough how much this is also about the people, not just the food.
I have also been making a concerted effort to do less equivocating and softening of my statements the last few months -- stuff like adding "I think" or "I feel like" or "this is my opinion" "this is broadly or mostly true" etc. and like. you'll notice I still do those a lot, lmfao, but also I do make a lot more posts that are just like "this is a thing. this is why. this is the impact it has." because the thing is, it in implicit that if I am saying this, I think it. the "I think" is implied. men typically get away with this quite easily. i know a lot of women online who do NO equivocating in their speech or writing, and people fucking HATE IT and hate them, because they think these women come across as conceited and overconfident and snobbish and any other unpleasant adjective that someone might use to describe an action that, in a man, would be perceived as appropriately confident.
sometimes when you've really been conditioned to soften every single fucking statement you make about your life and experiences and perspective, seeing people actively choose Not to do that can be really scary. sometimes it makes people angry! sometimes I think there is an element of jealousy and resentment from people who don't yet feel confident in their own statements, unless they're tearing someone else down. it's much easier to do that than it is to confidently make one's own statements. when you're tearing someone else down, you don't have to take on the social risk -- the person making the statement is taking the social risk. its socially safer to be the one who is reacting and disapproving of things someone else has said or done.
The following two statements are both true:
- Star Trek has always been woke
- Star Trek has always been corporate
- Star Trek has always been internationalist
- Star Trek has always been American
- Star Trek has mostly been utopian
- Star Trek has mostly been written by middle-class white heterosexual men
*goes to Coachella in a white linen suit like an antebellum lawyer, sweating profusely and dabbing at my forehead with a handkerchief* now, I’m no fancy scientist, but would you folk know where a simple gentleman such as myself could obtain some acid? Now, I’m no big city lawyer, but could any of you fine youths point a country boy such as myself in the direction of some fucking acid?
