Theme: fork in the road AU, canon lgbtq characters, female characters
Summary: Junior has a not quite fight with her mother that fuels in her a need to know the truth behind her parents' divorce. The only person she thinks might tell her is her father's best friend, so she gives him a call. From there, everything changes.
Reccer's Notes: This story puts Junior front and center. We follow her navigating her family life, high school, friendships, ... One phone call done by Alma Junior is what changes the course of Jack and Ennis' story, and while their (new) story is entwined with Junior's life, she's undeniably the main character. The author has a great grasp on Jack & Ennis and does an equally good job with Junior, her family and the original characters. The picture it paints of life in a small town in the Rockies during the 80s left a memorable impression with me, bringing me closer to this world. The atmosphere of the film is very much there, but instead of devastating isolation, being there for each other and trying their best at being decent people brings all the characters together.
Content Note: period-typical homophobia, domestic abuse (it's an OC, the person in question gets out of the situation over the course of the story), internalised homophobia
