The Monopoly round at [community profile] fandom_empire continued, and I came across some banner-making squares again.

Iron Triangle banners for the theme "Loyal"
Loyalty is already in their name, the "Iron Triangle". Unbreakable and inseparable. They do everything together: fighting, going on adventures, and partying. :)

Three cdrama icons and matching banners for the theme "Asia" (Nirvana in Fire, Romance of Tiger and Rose, Who Rules the World)
Fandom Empire Banner Asia - Nirvana In Fire - Tea

Fandom Empire Banner Asia - Romance of Tiger and Rose - Bamboo

Fandom Empire Banner Asia - Who Rules The World - Wuxia Fighters

I also made Zhu Yilong wallpapers for this activity in February. I've mentioned them here before, they're at AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/44757817

Comments make me happy, concrit is appreciated, too. Take and use as many icons as you like. The banners and wallpapers are also free to use, of course. Here's my resource post, where you can see whose brushes and textures I use.

In June, there was a Comedy Battle at [livejournal.com profile] icontalking, which took up a lot of my time, but I am really proud of the results. No cdrama icons in that battle set for a change. I managed to icon 15 different comedy shows! The rest of the icons I made in June is all Dreamlike Life, Guardian and Zhu Yilong, though. ;) Enjoy!

Here come all the icons I made for challenges this year so far. I should learn one day to post them before they reach the 100 mark. ;D

These were made for the usual comms: [livejournal.com profile] calendarsquares, [livejournal.com profile] capicontest, [livejournal.com profile] lims_btvs, [livejournal.com profile] lims_movie, [livejournal.com profile] oddlyspecificon, [livejournal.com profile] your_favourites.

The challenge for [livejournal.com profile] monthlyinspo this month was "Embrace Diverse Representation". Of course this meant I couldn't just make half the icons fit the theme. This deserves all the effort, and it was a lot of fun. I didn't have to search hard in my cap collection for gay couples or non-white characters/actors. And I managed a rainbow, too. *g*

Phew, this took me over three months! In between all the challenges with deadlines, it had to take the backseat again and again. I finally sat down and did the last three this week, so I could get them done!

The idea was to remake some of my old icons. Four lovely people looked through my old icons - they're all at least 3 years old - and suggested some to remake. Here's the result, and I think some of those actually turned out great. Especially compared to my hideous works from before. ;)

All in all, this was a very fun activity, and feels like an accomplishment. Not that all of the remakes even turned out wonderful, but it still feels good to see how much I've improved over the years.

I've made quite a few icons over the last few months for communities that required not telling anyone they were mine - like the second round of [livejournal.com profile] 100x100mystery, or just required posting them somewhere else 1,2,3 at a time, like [livejournal.com profile] paintedpixels. Now I've collected them here and sorted them by fandom. The Deadpool icons are from my first-time participation in a LIMS (last icon maker standing) community, [livejournal.com profile] lims_movie, and I made it to round 4, which I'm pretty happy about. Enjoy!

Oh, show. You are still getting better and better, it's unbelievable.

2x03 The Psychology of Letting Go
Everyone loves pelicans
+ I very much loved Annie's and Britta's interaction in this one. Never mind the mud wrestling, but there was a lot of truth in their fights.
- Jeff's epiphany about Pierce was weird and I didn't think it was very in character for him.
+ I did like the whole Pierce's mother story. It was typical Community - at first it looked flat and predictable and then it totally wasn't.
+ I loved Jeff's other epiphany about his body and obsession with his health, though. Also: yay, Ian Duncan!

2x04 Basic Rocket Science
It's moving!
+ This is one of the best examples of Community. Such beautiful in-character-ness coupled with parody.
+ The scary "we're going to be overrun by the reds" setup. Lol.
+ "You guys are walking in slomo?"
+ This is the kind of product placement I can dig.
+ Pierce lol! doing the typical "I'm fine now" trick, hee.
+ The butt-flag - and Jeff being the one to tattle. I did see a very similar (real-life, honest-to-god) logo to that one last week. Hee. I will never get that association out of my head now.
+ Nobody believing Annie's speech but everyone believing Jeff's.
+ Troy pulling rank on Jeff.
+ Abed! Oh, Abed. Lol, everyone reading KFC manuals. //)
+ "I'm afraid you're out of town" Hahaaaa!
* The whole thing with the Dean and the truck stops was - as usual - over the top for me. I feel sorry for the Dean. I do think they're somehow going into borderline unacceptable areas with the gay jokes sometimes. I might make a separate post about it when it strikes me again. I think it got worse over the course of the season, and it's all connected to the Dean. He's the only one with whom I feel we're not supposed to empathize, and that in itself is sad.

2x05 Messianic Myths...
ABED.
- Overall, I didn't like this episode all that much. It was one of those that were more focused on the story and less on the characters.
- Almost all scenes concerning Pierce and Jeff were stereotypes and reenactments of rebellious teenagrer movies, which was funny in a way, but it was not *them*. I really hate it when they do that, because I've come to expect better of Community.
+ Some of the scenes with Pierce and Leonard were funny. Not terribly insightful, but not all of them were straight parody. It could have been worse.
* I really don't know what to think about Abed and his movie. I am confused and thus unable to tell whether I'm supposed to react a certain way or not. I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to do with it and that makes me very insecure about stating any kind of opinion.
- The only thing I'm sure of is that Shirley really shouldn't have wrecked all the equipment. That was mean. Especially because it was shown as a good thing because it saved Abed from his movie, just like he wanted.
+ I loved Abed and Shirley bonding at the end. It's the first time Abed has ever done something right to connect with one of the group and it has been rewarded. I feel really happy for Abed about this.

2x06 Epidemiology
this one really deserves its own post, but I'm lazy
+ This episode was easily the high point of the season so far. And I'd already thought that about Rocket Science!
+ I don't even know where to start. I could probably quote the whole thing back and forth, it's pure genius.
+ Troy telling Abed he loves him (and to be the first black man to make it to the end! lol)
* Troy meeting all his zombified friends and giving us a glimpse of them
+ Miss Piggy!
+ Jeff feeding Britta
+ Britta and Rich "being special"
+ Starburns! OMG, I laughed so hard at the scene where he bites Pierce. From that point on, I was just giggling madly.
+ Troy half naked. Yay. And so sad at the same time.
+ Jeff's last words: "My jacket! You're stretching it!"
+ Troy and Abed's zombie handshake
+ Shirley and Chang. Chang has been sadly underused all season. ;/ (Also, I felt sorry for him in the first two eps. Why hasn't he snapped yet? Have they abandoned that story line?)
+ the dean and his hilariously labeled taco meat
+ ABBA. Whoever came up with that idea needs to get a medal

* My most important note: Jeff, you have it backwards! There are girls who ENJOY going to comic con. (i.e. all of us.) You don't know what you're missing!
tinny: (community_bj peek)
Community 2x01 - Anthropology 101
we're back!
+ They did a good job for a season premiere
+ That was so much more meta than I expected. Again! I should have known it.
+ Britta being famous and Annie being encouraged and Jeff not liking where either of it is going. Hee, tough luck, Jeff.
+ I was very relieved to see that Jeff is very uncomfortable with Annie and that his stance is that the kiss was a mistake
* I hope Abed doesn't get his wish of the show "moving away from relationshippy stuff and into bigger, fastpaced, self-contained escapades". Oh god, please no.
+ "Annie, all women deserve to be with me". Oh, Jeff. LOL! Also, he didn't need to say it for me to hear it: "And if I were to settle down, it sure as hell wouldn't be with you". Ouch.
+ Chang'd!
+ Jeff turning it into a game was brilliant, and exactly what works on Britta. Their fake kisses were hilarious (and excellent icon-fodder), and the music-sharing, and the group falling for it. lol
+ Jeff giving his patented rousing speech and being shot down (literally) by Betty White. Hee.
+ I managed to ignore Abed's wedding extravaganza completely when there was so much going on between the characters. Everyone being scandalized at Jeff and Britta having done it on the table, Britta finding out about the kiss, Jeff bleeding and totally losing it. Guh. It was so much, and so much more than I'd expected.
* Dunno what to think about Annie saying she finds Jeff gross now. Because I don't want them to take her out of the picture. Oh well, they can find someone else to obstacle Jeff/Britta. Yes, that's a verb now. //)

I'm really looking forward to this second season. I kinda wanted to stop writing up the reviews, but this episode begged for it so much, I just needed to write it down no matter who cares about it. So there. :D I can't promise anything for upcoming episodes, I probably won't write up every single one, only when the mood strikes me.
tinny: (community_bj peek)
1x24 English as a second language
Chang!
* Jeff, with his tight four-year schedule, suddenly comes across as kind of organized and un-slacking. Maybe he's trying to cheat his way through the tight schedule, but still. The full load approach doesn't sound like him.
* I totally agree with Annie that the group *will* drift apart when they don't have their regular class together anymore. I don't think she'd be the one to know that, though. Everyone over 30 is a much better bet.
* Annie is a mean and egotistical bitch sometimes. She knew Jeff would hate her for ratting out Chang (because it means he'll fail Spanish and ruin his plan) but she did it anyway.
+ Jeff letting his fake lawyer skills hang out. Yeah, he was mean to Annie, and he was totally on a control freak trip, but it was also hot.
- First Annie goes to all the trouble and then she wants to leave at the end? BAD Annie. Or bad writing, I don't know. It enraged me as much as the others.
+ Any Chang-centered episode is a good thing. The scene on the roof of the car was hilarious. Especially the "we're writing a song" line. :D
+ Chang only did 3 lessons with them in two semesters? Hee. Also: the whiteboard always has the funniest lines. I don't remember which episode it was when they were all saucy - it wasn't this one. But they're usually hilarious.
+ Abed recognizing Jeff's car alarm.
* I didn't find the Troy the Wonder Plumber storyline funny. Except for the part where Abed recognized it and took the quotes too far, hurting Troy. That part was nice.
+ Hee, I only noticed on the third capping skip-through that Pierce is holding a "Talk Dirty Spanish" book. :D
+ Jeff and Britta's Spanish actually sounds kinda acceptable. I don't speak Spanish, but the rolling r's sounded very authentic and much better than I'm used to from American actors.
+ Jeff failing to kick the door in at first was funny. I thought he wouldn't manage at all, but the thought alone was funny enough, I guess. :)
+ Jeff and Annie's conversation about feelings and her clothes was sweet. Creating tension where there isn't any (from Jeff's side at least) was blatantly obvious, but fun.
+ The last scene was the best one: Pierce SLEPT them through the exam! OMGLOL!

1x25 Pascal's Triangle Revisited
Woah. What can I say? I NEED MOAR CAPSLOCK!
+ This episode rocked my socks off. I was sitting with my hands clamped over my mouth for the second half of it. OMG.
+ Community is so amazing in its way to spin things into parody. This wasn't realistic, it was meta all the way. They just love yanking the fangirls' chains. And I love that.
+ It already started out so cheerful and set the tone for a meta episode combined with the special atmosphere of a finale - it was obvious. And fun.
+ Evil genie dean. Hee.
+ I like Slater and when she turned up I knew roughly where the episode was going to go and that they would put us through the wringer.
+ Duncan was fun (escpecially with Chang) and also asking *the* question first: which one do you want? As if there wasn't enough meta in this ep already. :)
+ Troy's cookie: "My friendship with Abed is a giant cookie!" :D
+ The group one-two-threeing Vaughn
+ Awkward Jeff/Britta scene on the bunk bed - it was so very clear that he wanted Britta and not Slater. Actually, it was clear, later, too. He just isn't ready to confront his feelings yet.
+ Britta being so competitive she needed to declare her love, that was totally in character. And you could tell she didn't even mean it when she said it. Not really. She feels it, I'm sure of that, but she doesn't consciously know it.
+ I loved how Jeff was unable to answer - which was the only realistic way this could have gone. He hasn't thought about it, which is what I'd expected from him. And the whole audience (both of them, on- and off-screen) waiting for his answer. AND JOINING TEAMS! Did I mention this show rocks?
+ Britta accepting the prize when she hadn't won yet - that whole episode screamed embarrassment squick. But it was bearable because the fourth wall was so far down. It all felt constructed - in a good way: The characters were obviously put on display (with microphones!) and bent to the breaking point - and I was still able to identify with them. I have no idea how they managed that, to be honest. I have never seen anything like it.
+ The writers also obviously know how to make a season finale with potential for fandom wars and tons of fic. I'm impressed because it sure seemed they did it on purpose. (So now where's the fic? ;))
* I don't know what to think of Jeff's conversation (and kiss) with Annie. I now know what [livejournal.com profile] prettypepper was talking about when she said that Jeff's words were ignored in favor of his actions. To be honest, I first did not believe him when he said he felt like a good guy with Slater and like himself with Britta. Because that's not how their romantic relationship feels at all. But I realized later that he meant their bickering. Their friendship. And that makes sense, because he is surprised that he's getting along so well with Britta, all the while not even trying to get into her pants. That is not something he's used to or able to accept. He loves her and wants her but it's outside his experience.
+ Side note: Abed told Jeff that Slater was low maintenance and Britta was high maintenance (in 1x16). But what Jeff says here sure sounds like the exact opposite. Jeff feels like he has to work for Slater and with Britta, it just comes naturally. If that is not the deciding factor, I don't know what is. Although I understand that this doesn't lead to Jeff being able to make a decision. He isn't really aware of the meaning of what he just said. Also, I still think it only applies to the friendship part of their relationship. When Jeff thinks about their romantic side, it's way less clear because he's confused about his feelings.
* The kiss with Annie. I didn't think it worked all that well. It was thrown in to stoke even more shipper wars, but I didn't think Jeff would do it at that moment. Annie totally started it, but he didn't refuse. I wonder who took advantage of whom here. Annie is young and infatuated and naive, and Jeff is confused and running on flight instinct. It's interesting to analyze that.

Just for the record: my final answer will always be Britta. I'm definitely biased here, so I don't know how accurate my observations are. But from what I've seen, he has no connection with Annie (except the physical attraction). Quite the opposite, almost all his conversations with her have that huge age difference looming between them and making him look down on her. He sometimes openly treats her like a child, and sometimes it's more subtle. But my impression is that he doesn't consider himself on the same level as Annie, and he doesn't want to be there, either. On the other hand, he goes out of his way again and again to impress Britta. I can see how fangirls will side with the girl closer to their own age. I have too little contact to fandom to judge this accurately, though. I'm just guessing. Do you have convincing arguments for either side?
tinny: (community_bj peek)
1x23 Modern Warfare
OMG OMG OMG. If I wasn't in love with this show already, I would be now.
+ CAPS LOCK DOESN'T DO THIS EPISODE JUSTICE!
+ Jeff waking up to post-apocalyptic Greendale
- wtf fake paint splatter? Hee.
+ "Come with me if you don't want paint on your clothes" :D
+ Abed and Troy's costumes *lol* (although the roman togas from last ep were fun, too :)). The goggles reminded me of Farscape, mostly, although I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be Vin Diesel they were going for. :)
+ I'm way more familiar with action movies than with frat or mafia movies, so no wonder I loved this one better.
+ Jeff in his Bruce Willis shirt. ("I have a history of taking off my shirt" lalala)
+ Pierce shooting Starburns (and raiding the snack machine)
+ The confrontation in the toilets (lol Annie in the trashcan!)
+ The Glee club
+ The fire in the cafeteria - and Abed and Shirley almost killing Jeff and Britta for bickering :D
+ Chang!!! Making him a student works well (also probably useful in view of coming events :)).
+ Chang as Chow Yun-Fat! OMG! I actually sat through "The Killer" years ago. Yay, finally worth the torture!
+ LOL Jeff and Britta playing with the cliché and pretending to kiss. No tension, lol.
+ I admit I liked the second kiss - behind the couch - better than the first one. The second one had a lot more depth and I don't care all that much for the eye candy. It was both well done, though, and I would be lying if I said the Jeff/Britta moments weren't the high points of the episode. Also, I do like Jeff's taste in underwear. ;)
* The part where Jeff accuses Britta of sleeping with him to win the game was extremely douchey of him. He hasn't come far enough yet. He still doesn't get her at all, which is the best thing to watch.
+ My favorite thing in the whole episode: Jeff's look after Britta kissed him behind the couch. He has the best hurt-and-confused look every time someone kisses him. Or at least, every time Annie or Britta kiss him. The serious ones, the ones that throw him off-balance.
* I don't know what to think about Britta sacrificing herself for Jeff. I didn't think that was very in character, because she really doesn't think Jeff deserves the prize, and also her competitive streak is miles high. But then, he had accused her of wanting to win the game and she probably thought it was the only way to prove to him that she had been serious before. Which I find way cool.
* I also don't know what to think about Jeff giving up his prize. Maybe it was just the payback for Britta's sacrifice. He knew he had to prove something to her too.
* The last scene was a bit too unsubtle for me again. But hey, it was still funny. I could watch Jeff look shifty all day. ;)

Overall, the episode rocked.

Running towards the season finale...

1x21 Contemporary American Poultry
A special episode indeed
+ The concept is brilliant.
* I still can't say much about it, because I've not seen many movies. I know a few titles, but "an offer he can't refuse" is basically the whole of my knowledge on movies of that kind. "We may be watching different mafia movies." Yes, that.
* It didn't touch me all that much, mostly because it wasn't shippy, so I don't really feel like saying much about it.
* Also, the characterization of Jeff as Control Freak Leader was... a bit too much for me.
+ It was fun overall, though.
+ Pharao Troy wtf?
- Annie's boobs wtf? That one's just old.
+ Backpack-loving Annie and Britta's comment about robots was so absurd it was funny again
+ The "message" with the backpack. Ouch.
+ "For your information: I don't have an ego."
+ Together: "You were right."
+ Jeff's deeply satisfied expression on noticing that his hand gestures are working again. Wee.
+ Loved Abed's Organization Chart:
Abed's Organization

+ My favorite was when Abed said "Please don't do a special episode about me. [...] Maybe this is a special episode." *lol*
+ That whole conversation between Abed and Jeff was the high point of the episode.
+ Abed really is a good choice for Godfather.
* I still felt bad for Abed being "back on the outside", because Jeff promised to help him and he looked like he put a lot of hope into that.
+ I like the way they drop the fourth wall all the time, even though it means they have to caricature the characters for the analysis to become funny. I think I like real characters and indirect insight better. But the parodies are way cool, too. I can't decide!

* Summary: I admit I enjoyed Modern Warfare about 30 times more. Probably because it was just as batshit but also shippy. So let's move on:

1x22 The Art of Discourse
You gotta bang his mother!
- I did not like the premise of the high school student plotline particularly. But what they made of it rocked so much. I didn't expect most of it, least of all the ending.
- Abed breaking the guitar. ;(( I felt like Shark Week when Jeff broke the pencil. Just worse. A guitar! *sniff*
+ The group turning on each other was great. It was fun without being all-out mean.
+ There was so much Jeff/Britta, it almost broke my brain.
* Britta not being able to afford an iPod, and Jeff dissing her for it. //) Ouch.
+ Jeff only pulling all the stops after Britta suggests it
* The escape goat. //)
+ The bang his mother ploy and the handshake! Omg.
+ Jeff coming on to "Frankenmom" was so yucky it was - you guessed it - fun to watch.
+ I only realized late that the premise for the episode was, exactly like the one before it and the one after it: it was another parody. This time of college/frat movies. It just... didn't feel as distorted as the other two. The characters were more themselves and not as obviously analyzed.
- I didn't care much for Abed and Troy's storyline in this one. Is their fraternity name significant? I prefer to read it as "OTP". ;)
+ Especially the pantsing storyline was well done. Pierce was himself and Shirley was herself and they both reacted as stubbornly as anyone would. And still they managed to work it out and it felt real. It's saying something when the storyline of the two characters I like the least is affecting me in that way.
+ OMG, Jeff and Britta almost looked cool "duh"-ing it. Until they run out of air. *lol* There's something wrong with my brain. //)

* I actually feel bad about liking this episode better than Poultry. Jeff/Britta makes me happy, what can I say? *sigh*

I already watched Modern Warfare, but I'm stopping with the writing up so I can post this before I fall asleep. :)
tinny: (community_bj peek)
1x20 Science of Illusion
mixed bag of... nuts?
- this one was a pretty strange mix, I must say. Half of it was spent pranking the hell out of Pierce, which I didn't like. Usually the show is very careful to keep their characters lovable, even though it's always toeing the line with how everyone treats Pierce. I thought this was over the line.
- The writing felt way less caring than usual. In all respects. I'm thinking I don't like this ep's writer.
* Okay, I admit it. I'm Britta buzzkill. I know why she's my favorite character by far. :)
+ All the conversations between her and Jeff were gold. There was a marked difference between the conversations he had with her in the presence of the group - where he was very condescending towards her - and the one he had with her alone where he threatened to out her. It very much fits their relationship. He wants to distance himself from her in the group's eyes. But then I shouldn't read too much into it when the writing for this ep was so imperfect.
+ Joel's laughing a lot in this ep. I had trouble seeing him as in character, actually. I think that's a good thing, normally. They must be having a great time on that show and it just feels amazing to be laughing along with them. And usually, they have the scripts to make that happen.
+ The whole body out the window thing was strange, but I loved this sentence: "Don't worry, your school's reputation is way worse than this."
+ I kind of liked the Annie/Shirley bits once they got past the first act. The action sequence with Jeff was hilarious.
+ Jeff's "Cagney, Lacey, what can I do you for?" and Annie and Shirley patting him down. *fans self* Joel was so laughing in that shot, you can tell even though he's looking down.
* Joel looks like he is way too tall to be running. Or rather, there was too little room for him to be running at a pace that would have made him look less ridiculous. *smishes him*
+ Jeff's look at Annie pepperspraying herself. Heee!
+ Abed being the audience within the show was weird but so unusual it was good again. Especially prompting the Dean. Lol.
+ I liked how Britta managed to put it all on him, without being someone she's not. And Jeff trying to deny it and nobody believing a word of it. :D And they're right. Britta wouldn't usually do this. She was just genuinely scared Jeff would rat her out and she thought he would be the one who could handle it best. So she didn't mind blaming him. Until Annie hit his head on the table, that is. //)
* Badass Annie. She's scary, honestly. Annie is wound so tight sometimes, it can totally backfire.
+ I didn't like the scene where Pierce reads Jeff's mind ("gayyyy...."), but I couldn't take my eyes off Jeff (or was it Joel), who apparently had a really hard time staying still and not laughing.
+ Jeff in handcuffs. Rowr. I felt really sorry for him. Everyone gets to group hug (and, okay, cry) and he is chained to the chair (considering himself and Abed the only sane ones. *lol*). I kept swinging from "untie the poor guy" to "I have to watch that again, yum". The show does that to me. :)
+ Listening to Britta confess was the only scene this ep where Jeff wasn't laughing. He actually looked stricken. He looked at the others with mild confusion, but he can not see Britta cry. *loves him so much*
+ Jeff trying to cheer her up, eventually admitting he's no good at the mushy stuff. *loves him more*
+ Hee, I only saw Abed feeding Jeff popcorn on the third viewing. :D

* Dunno about the tag. Are they just making fun of Jeff's naked stint from three eps ago, or are they trying to tell us that it is impossible to look like Jeff does without... what? Plastic surgery?
* I wish I knew all the shows they're parodying. The people with the posters looked like in the NBC news studio, but that's all I've got. Is there a pop culture reference like there was for Farscape? Community definitely needs one.

why does this show manage to surprise me every episode?
1x19
+ I knew it was going to go to hell when Abed said "competitive streak". Hee, voice over.
+ I liked the boating, even though it was one of those kitschy examples of typical Community friendship stories. Still, it was fun to watch. The boat going by the window, Pierce giving Jeff advice, Starburns, even the seamen speech, the Titanic moment. I liked Shirley. Making her captain was a good way to make me like her more. Well done, writers.
+ Annie's vase - kinda predictable but still hilarious
+ The whole competitiveness thing went different than I'd expected it. Jeff put way more into it than I'd thought, and he acted on a way more intellectual level, too.
+ Goldbluming, yay :D I liked everything about that scene. It was one of the first where I actually saw Joel pull off something different.
* I liked Tony Hale better on Arrested Development. He was over the top here.
+ Jeff starting to sing was the best thing ever.
+ Yay for imagined mother-son conversations. *lol* "I'm still scared"
+ Chang being on the receiving end of it for once, poor guy. I love how the show manages to keep even him somewhat likeable.

All in all, not a special episode, but surprisingly nice, and not what I'd expected.
tinny: (community_bj peek)
well, that was surprising
1x17 Physical Education
* [livejournal.com profile] prettypepper already 'warned' me that it was a fan favorite and I can now see why. :D
+ Abed played them masterfully, again. Both ways - the group as well as Jeff.
+ Joel naked. Yay! I dunno if I would rewatch the whole episode, though. That one scene is quite enough. ;)
+ I don't even want to know the commentaries for that one. Almost. ;) *omg embarrassment squick*
+ "Ah, you're sweaty." *lol* Did I mention I like the dean? He's so... bumblingly inappropriate?
+ And I have to say, I almost liked Jeff better in his red ones.
* Britta is kinda put off by naked Jeff, but Annie gets to look interested. They're totally doing that on purpose.
+ Abed and Troy as Ernie and Bert! *LOL*

1x18 Basic Genealogy
+ there is so much I loved about this episode, it's hard to remember it all.
+ I loved Jeff being in pain - although, an explanation from Slater would have been nice. Maybe? I can respect them not wanting to spell everything out for us. It's actually unusual, which should be a good thing. And I don't think the fans could be any madder one way or the other. So, yeah. She broke his heart and we will never know why. *sigh*
+ The Bootinator. Very much icon material.
+ I loved Jeff going after Amber, especially how they made us think he'd give up sex for feeling like the good guy. Hah, no way! //) "But I wanted to do it twice!" *LOL*
+ I adored dangerous Annie and decent Annie! It's so cool how the writers make those characters bring out the best in each other. Not only Annie in Jeff, but also Jeff in Pierce (all those stories he told were true, after all)
+ I have no idea how we got there this fast, but: they are friends and I love watching them be friends. How lame is that? ;D
- family day? really? OK, I've seen it done worse on other shows, but still. The guests were farfetched and a bit dull.
+ "I don't understand you, Britta" indeed. But we love her. There are things about her that I don't understand, but none that I don't like.
+ Jeff and Amber 'walking' in on Troy and Britta? Great moment!
+ I love it when shows can be all sexy with all their characters, but still not all about sex? Very rare.
* They did make sure not to show any kind of attraction between Jeff and Britta at all. Neither did they in the previous episode, btw.
+ Abed's dad: "And I don't even like that shirt". He set up the whole Glee thing nicely. ;) Pity he's not on Community more.
+ God, I loved it when Jeff broke down in the end. I enjoy it way too much when my favorite characters are crying.

But they managed to top it:
+ "I hate Glee". I almost woke everyone, I was laughing so hard. OMG, this show rocks so much, I can't believe it.

Anyone not into Community yet?

Read my rec
* Joel McHale plays lawyer Jeff Winger who's used to talking his way out of every situation. He has a beautiful smile, what can I say? :) Just for the record: I ship him with everything that moves. (So does he, probably. ;))
* Britta is 28 and tough and I have no idea what to say about her but I like her a lot
* Annie is 18 and naive and high-strung and they "try not to sexualize her". Hee.
* Troy is the ex-quarterback who is just not that bright - which is ironic, because Donald Glover was a writer on 30 Rock and his improvs are immensely funny
* Chevy Chase is funny as the unlikeable, homophobic, racist old guy who noone respects and who comes up with one crazy scheme after another
* Shirley is the housewife who always makes scathing comments - she's the one who interests me the least. Which doesn't really say much, because I adore everyone else
* Danny Pudi is Abed, the autistic tv fanatic of the group. Abed doesn't get people, except when he totally does. He talks almost without inflection and he says the weirdest and funniest stuff. He quotes tv shows and movies all the time, and it must have been as much fun writing him as it is to watch him.

* every single one of those characters is actually *a character*, and they are all lovable in their own way
* check out the bloopers on youtube!
* there are tons of gay jokes, but they don't come across as homophobic to me. How is your perception of that?
* the pop culture references never stop. The show is crammed full of them and it's hilarious
* It's intelligent like 30 Rock, but somehow kitschier, more loveable. I don't know how to describe it, but while I find 30 Rock great, in an intellectual way, I love Community with all my heart. I can't wait to see all of it as soon as humanly possible.

Everyone who already loves it, feel free to chat with me about it. I just watched 1x15 and 1x16 and here are my 2 cents:

this one's for prettypepper

1x15 - Romantic Expressionism
+ I really loved that episode, and I knew I was going to love it when it started with Jeff and Britta together, working as a team
+ Hee, Britta sucks at being stealthy. That makes her very likeable.
+ The scene with the eye-sexing was extensive - like they really wanted to make a comment on every single possible pairing. It must have taken ages to shoot that. The show *should* be single-camera for all I know about tv.
+ I see what [livejournal.com profile] prettypepper meant about Annie and Britta. :)
+ I loved Jeff's smile to Annie. His whole posture and body language relaxed - that was something that didn't happen with anyone else.
+ The most hilarious sentence of the whole ep was Annie saying: "Trust me, I have good taste." *lol*

1x16 Communication Studies
+ About the only thing I liked about that one was the idea behind it: a sitcom staple. :D
- I think it was the worst ep so far. Maybe just because it pushed the wrong buttons for me.
- I think at least half the ep was spent drinking. And Chang really didn't have to have a bottle in his hand, either.
- The whole ep was pushing it too far. Chang was over the top even for him
+ Although his dancing was worth it. :)
* I don't know what to think about Britta and Jeff. I'm not usually averse to shows trying to make subtext into text and finding ways to drag their characters' motivation into the open, but it just felt forced here.
* Also, Britta's comment about it being just "20 seconds of a 40 minute message" was so frustrating. I want to know every single word he said to her, dammit!
+ OK, I liked (a lot!) that Jeff was brutally honest to Slater. That was unexpected and endearing. I do like the way their relationship is going right now.

I'd love to talk with you about this show. Please try not to spoil me for eps I have not seen yet. Thanks!

I realize with dismay that I haven't made a single icon this year. Until yesterday, that is. :)

I got addicted (you know how it goes...) to Community this week and went through 15 episodes in 5 days. I was hooked right from the pilot. And then I had this urge to icon Jeff Winger Andy-Warhol-style:

I used no textures or anything else special this time. It's all Photoshop's gradient map.

Enjoy! And watch Community!
