+ CAPS LOCK DOESN'T DO THIS EPISODE JUSTICE!
+ Jeff waking up to post-apocalyptic Greendale
- wtf fake paint splatter? Hee.
+ "Come with me if you don't want paint on your clothes" :D
+ Abed and Troy's costumes *lol* (although the roman togas from last ep were fun, too :)). The goggles reminded me of Farscape, mostly, although I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be Vin Diesel they were going for. :)
+ I'm way more familiar with action movies than with frat or mafia movies, so no wonder I loved this one better.
+ Jeff in his Bruce Willis shirt. ("I have a history of taking off my shirt" lalala)
+ Pierce shooting Starburns (and raiding the snack machine)
+ The confrontation in the toilets (lol Annie in the trashcan!)
+ The Glee club
+ The fire in the cafeteria - and Abed and Shirley almost killing Jeff and Britta for bickering :D
+ Chang!!! Making him a student works well (also probably useful in view of coming events :)).
+ Chang as Chow Yun-Fat! OMG! I actually sat through "The Killer" years ago. Yay, finally worth the torture!
+ LOL Jeff and Britta playing with the cliché and pretending to kiss. No tension, lol.
+ I admit I liked the second kiss - behind the couch - better than the first one. The second one had a lot more depth and I don't care all that much for the eye candy. It was both well done, though, and I would be lying if I said the Jeff/Britta moments weren't the high points of the episode. Also, I do like Jeff's taste in underwear. ;)
* The part where Jeff accuses Britta of sleeping with him to win the game was extremely douchey of him. He hasn't come far enough yet. He still doesn't get her at all, which is the best thing to watch.
+ My favorite thing in the whole episode: Jeff's look after Britta kissed him behind the couch. He has the best hurt-and-confused look every time someone kisses him. Or at least, every time Annie or Britta kiss him. The serious ones, the ones that throw him off-balance.
* I don't know what to think about Britta sacrificing herself for Jeff. I didn't think that was very in character, because she really doesn't think Jeff deserves the prize, and also her competitive streak is miles high. But then, he had accused her of wanting to win the game and she probably thought it was the only way to prove to him that she had been serious before. Which I find way cool.
* I also don't know what to think about Jeff giving up his prize. Maybe it was just the payback for Britta's sacrifice. He knew he had to prove something to her too.
* The last scene was a bit too unsubtle for me again. But hey, it was still funny. I could watch Jeff look shifty all day. ;)
Overall, the episode rocked.
OMG OMG OMG. If I wasn't in love with this show already, I would be now.

on 2011-03-20 09:02 pm (UTC)This episode is certainly a fan favourite and I hear they will be revisiting the theme in the future.

on 2011-03-20 09:06 pm (UTC)I very much loved the episode, as you can tell. I think it's probably my favorite from the first season, and not because of the Jeff/Britta stuff (although that's certainly always a plus for me), but because of the movie parodies.
Oh, you may be able to help me with something: hubby and I have been thinking about which movie the confrontation scene in the lavatory is from. And we both can't remember! :( Any clues?
Also, is there a pop culture reference out there anywhere? I couldn't find one. ;/ But I admittedly didn't try all that hard.

on 2011-03-26 09:16 pm (UTC)I do have one question:
In the Psychology of Letting Go, Britta tells Annie she just slept with Jeff "because she hates herself". I did not get that. I mean, I was reminded of how her complaining about being even phonier than Jeff led to sex. But I thought it was because they bonded over it - they both aren't 100% happy with themselves and they have that in common. But when Britta says it like that, it sounds like she's the only one with that problem, and as if she didn't respect Jeff. In Warfare, this came across as very different. Maybe she changed her mind, after? I don't know, I don't completely understand it.

on 2011-03-26 11:14 pm (UTC)So back and look at Anthropology 101, at Britta's face right after Annie punches Jeff and they all learn about the season finale kiss. That is not the look of someone who is anything but absolutely crushed. Yes, she wanted to win their stupid little game, and yes, she was faking being 'that girl' in their fake relationship, but she wasn't faking her declaration in the S1 finale. She's honestly crushed, horrified and crushed and wrecked inside that he would do that to her. For her, even in their stupid fake relationship, something was real - at least it meant that they were the way they had been before. She certainly never expected that she had competition - that her place in the group, her place with Jeff, would be swept out from under her like that. The way she goes after Annie in that same scene, and whenever she can after that pretty much proves how she feels about it.
For most of S2, she's pushed to the background - she has storylines, but there's been a lot of complaining from fans about how she's not front-and-centre anymore. When we do see her, she's much more bitter, much more argumentative, much more self-loathing.
Honestly? I think he broke her heart, very much more than a little. I think her line about only sleeping with him because she hates herself is not based on her thinking about it and realising that that's why she did it initially, but on her perspective after, where she does hate herself for having given him that much power over her emotionally.
I also think she hates herself quite a lot just generally, and so does Jeff, which is one of the many, many reasons they're drawn to each other. They like each other just about as much as they hate themselves. Have you gotten the S1 DVDs yet, and watched the long version of Communication Studies? Abed has it nailed, man.

on 2011-03-27 06:18 am (UTC)I guess this is the part where everyone disagrees with you?
I'm somewhere in the middle, I guess. I do believe Britta when she says in Anthropology that "her heart may have overstated". She did not 100% mean it, she was forced into it by the thought of losing him. But she wasn't *there* yet, consciously, if you know what I mean? He heart knows that it wants him, but she's not her heart. She filters a lot, and she doesn't like being led by her heart. But that doesn't mean she doesn't love him. She does, I'm sure of it, she just wishes she wouldn't.
That Jeff loves her is a given for me. (Dan Harmon is with me on that ;) - at least he says so in the early commentaries.)
she does hate herself for having given him that much power over her emotionally.
Yes, that makes total sense!
there's been a lot of complaining from fans
Well, I think I will be peeved at that, too. But I will definitely keep her broken heart in mind and I'm sure it'll keep her dear to me.
She certainly never expected that she had competition - that her place in the group, her place with Jeff, would be swept out from under her like that.
Oh my, yes. They'll have to work hard to get back to that. I'm very much hoping the PTB won't give up on them. Usually, bringing the competition and the obstacles is a good thing, for a tv show. I trust them.
I also think she hates herself quite a lot just generally, and so does Jeff, which is one of the many, many reasons they're drawn to each other.
Exactly, and they both have such a long way to go. I like that.
Abed has it nailed, man.
I haven't gotten that far yet. But generally, I think Abed often is the voice of God. He says it like it is, not like he has a right to know from his pov. He's a little an autistic character and a little the direct wire to the writers' brains. They just sell it as it being all Abed. And I'm fine with that.
I might skip ahead on the DVD to that ep. I'm really curious.
