[livejournal.com profile] digiguy_online is arriving today for a few days of hanging out and general nerdery. We'll probably do some kind of cosplay shoot while he's here (Dangan Ronpa or Ib, very probably). Pez is fully expecting there to be some kind of musical-watching, which does seem rather likely (a little birdy tells me that the second season Tenimyu Rikkai finals might wind up online this weekend, if nothing else).

I finished Dragon Age Inquisition! My first run, so I was super completionist and took 95 hours to finish. The ending was a bit unsatisfying in terms of gameplay (the ending battle, even by my low standards, was absurdly easy), but I like some of the stuff raised in the ending and epilogue. I read up some fan theories that made me think, and hey, I'll probably even replay purely for the opportunity to try out different choices/inquisitor background/romance stuff. Though next time I will not be nearly as completionist, I think.

And I started Persona Q. Going to go through the P4 side first, since there's been a LOT of Persona 3 stuff in my life recently. So far it's very cute!

My posting here dropped off sharply, sigh. I was mostly on Tumblr this year, and a little on Facebook and Twitter (I am massively throttling twitter participation and basically don't add people any more; I do not want it to become my primary social outlet because I dislike the length restriction).

But I'll, uh. Try to post here more, again, at least.
I'm aware of the horrible things going on, but in the interest of retaining some level of sanity I am going to make a very selfish and shallow post about the things that are keeping me happy right now.

Well, that was a very busy and wonderful weekend.

Before the weekend, I was feeling reasonably knackered and antisocial, and therefore sort of expected to be Doing My Best To Get Through Kita all weekend. I also was having serious 'I look awful in everything' feelings about my costumes.

But Kita was amazing. Wonderful people -- we caught up with lots of old friends, and also made lots of new ones (for once! it feels like I haven't done that at conventions for a while). Wonderful costumes around the place -- we saw Rose of Versailles cosplay, good grief, and Rikkai cosplays who we fangirled over enthusiastically, and the AMAZING Grunt cosplay by a friend of ours, and a ton of others that we either admired from a distance or made happy little noises about.

Things I'm going to remember:

Basically, I had a wonderful time and came out of the con suffused with happy feelings about people generally. And I want to make so many costumes (that will wear off, I know, but it's nice to have the sensation of enthusiasm for a while). I am exhausted now, however. Pez and I are going to be taking it Very Easy (outside of work) for a little while, I think.
(backdating this so I can actually find it next year!)

Also I attempted to post to LJ every day! I did that until August and then started dropping days here and there -- November was extremely patchy, wow -- but I feel like I'm in the habit of posting here regularly. Tumblr is, however, more and more my go-to place for random bloggy things, mostly because LJ -- despite a few valiant few of you -- does feel like shouting into a void sometimes. Ah well. I'm still here, and so are at least six of you guys, and you're important enough that I won't go drifting off any time soon.
Dream Live 2013 is magnificent, despite my pretty minimal investment in second season Tenimyu (I get flooded with pictures of the current Yukimura and the current Niou over on tumblr, that's about it).

Yagyuu is the prince of meganes. Tezuka is extremely pretty. Fuji has perfect Fuji-voice. Oshitari is a really good singer. Chinen plays rock guitar in a sequined jumpsuit. Atobe sprawls magnificently on a piano while Taki plays castanets. D1 have fabulously amazing outfits and frilly socks. There is a weird best-friends song with, um, sequined dresses and tinsel fans. Sanada sings in sparkly samurai armour. Higa have a sinking ship. Sanada and Yukimura fly through the air towards each other. Basically, it's a spectacular tribute to fanon and sequins all over the place.

my gripes with the casts )

Anyway, it's a lot of fun despite my reservations on the cast, and the guest spots are awesome (Kimeru is a nastier Fuji than any other so far, Kato hams it up beautifully for a double-Atobe duet, and Masa is spectacular in a Niou-Yagyuu-Niou version of Petenshi Da). I have a ton of other backstage bits to watch at some point. I suspect these casts have a blast backstage (since they're clearly having fun onstage), so those should be pretty entertaining anyway.

Okay, with Aya all done and wrapped up, new plans for cosplays!

Existing costumes to do mini-shoots for - either due to not actually getting any pics or knowing we can get some good ones nearby: everything from Aya (Niou, Neil, Ib, Clavat).

Costume I'll be doing at some point soon: something from Attack on Titan. Probably Armin, but really whoever is needed for the photoshoots we're part of.

Costumes I actively want to make, in no particular urge:

Narukami Yu (Persona 4): if I had the glasses, honestly, I could put together a summer uniform version tomorrow. But I do also want to make the jacket and do the full uniform version.
Edgeworth (Ace Attorney): I have the materials for Young Edgeworth from AA3, and I want to get back into sewing something soon, so this (or JP) will probably be the next thing I actually make.
Therius (The Last Story): it's a bit of a project, what with the armour and all, but I really do want to start this soon.
Jean Paulet (Resonance of Fate): the boots are putting me off a bit. But the rest is awesome, I have the fabrics, and JP is wonderful. Pez wants to make Zephyr soon, too.

I also have vague FFX-2 urges (maybe Gippal!) after some conversations at Aya, and people-who-aren't-Pez are muttering about Tenimyu costumes (the new D1 outfits from DL2013 are really, really pretty). And I have a feeling I'll cave in and make something from Free! somehow (maybe one of the ending costumes) because I find the series too amusing to not celebrate it. We'll see. I'm giving myself time off cosplay entirely for a while first.

And obviously, all the above is subject to random, unexpected changes due to sudden shininess or ennui.

Finally - finally - playing the Telltale Back to the Future games. Gosh. This is hitting me right in the fandom nostalgia. I approve.

Also my Tumblr dash at the moment is like a cascade of Tenimyu Dream Live 2013 screencaps and gifs. It's awesome. Hooray for happy enthusiastic obsessive-fan people; you make me feel so much less crazy by contrast.

Other: I started learning Japanese, which is awesome! I am also trying to polish up my French a bit (because I kept feeling shame when in France this year). It's tempting to also develop my Italian, because I like it a lot, but perhaps I shouldn't go too crazy with multiple languages at once.

I also started trying to keep fit; dancing is my main thing for this, and it's awesome and keeps me cheerful and so on. I lost quite a bit of weight from a combination of this and some dietary stuff (we did Atkins for a bit and it really worked well for me) which has been good for me.

I also started eating meat; that's been a big lifestyle change. It turns out meat is tasty. Pork is the main thing I've not yet tried; someday, perhaps.

And we got married! That took a lot of my mental time and effort for this year, but it was wonderful and I've spoken many times about it so I'll just say: Pez is a most excellent wife.
Pez has been working on the wedding invitations. They are magnificent and dorky and exactly right for us.

Japanese learning continues - I can read all the hiragana and katakana fairly easily now (well, weird fonts aside) but man do I suck at writing them down legibly. Practise, practise, practise. I've also moved onto some basic kanji (including more writing practise!) and vocabulary now; I'll be seeing what actual learning-vocabulary material the library has on the weekend.

Other than that, basically all my time is spent on work (of one sort or another), occasional forays into videogames or watching pretty tennis boys dance and sing and generally be silly. There are worse ways I could be living my life, frankly.
Today I played on Let's Dance for an hour *and* watched the Just Dance finale, and *still* I have a 30-second dance from one of the Prince of Tennis Dream Lives stuck on rotation in my head. Augh. Tonight we are going to watch Higamyu, so maybe that will shunt it out.

There are several threads of thought lurking in my brain and none of them want to unfurl themselves into an lj post. Actually my brain is stuck in a faintly pretentious navelgazing rut so it'd probably best not to indulge it. Although, hey, in all this introspection I think I managed to identify the nature of a writing block I hit 15 years ago, so that'll be fun to hit with hammers until it goes the hell away. Whee!
