Profile
Amelia's motivation to join the Grado army stems from her broken childhood, where her village, Silva, was attacked by bandits. Her father was killed in the raid and her mother, Melina, was kidnapped and presumed dead by Amelia. After this event, Amelia vowed to be the greatest soldier Grado will ever behold in order to protect her loved ones.
She first appears in her new residence, Serafew, where one of Eirika's companions or Eirika herself visits her house just as she leaves, finding a Torch that she had dropped in her rush to join the army. Depending on which of the twins the player chooses to follow, Amelia will appear in one of two locations:
- Port Kiris, where she joins a Grado battalion in capturing Eirika. If she is not recruited or killed in Port Kiris, she later withdraws and reappears in Hamill Canyon as part of Aias' reinforcements.
- Fort Rigwald, where she objects to Gheb's ranting of a soldier who has doubts about the war. As punishment, Gheb forces her out into the frontlines, hoping for her to die.
At first, she is merely one of Grado's forces fooled by the propaganda declaring the siblings Eirika and Ephraim evil nobles of Renais, but when encountering them or the cavalier Franz, her opinion quickly changes and she defects to their side. She then aids Eirika and Ephraim in their journey.
If Amelia has not obtained any supports, she returns to Grado after the war and helps rebuild the nation after the war. Her endings with Franz and Ross lead her to moving to Renais with her husband. Her ending with Ewan leads her into traveling across Magvel with her husband, while with Duessel she simply travels with him as a friend.
Personality
Amelia is a kindhearted and selfless girl with a strong desire to defend those she cares for since the incident in Silva. She is also stubborn and quite hesitant to speak about her past, but concedes to discussing it to people she feels close to, like Franz. This stubbornness often makes it hard for her to let go of an idea once she had it, having decided decisively she wanted to protect her loved ones by joining Grado's army.
A major part of Amelia's desire to become stronger was in part due to the helplessness she felt when Silva was raided by bandits, prompting her wish to train in martial skill to be able to help herself as much as her loved ones. She hates the feeling of uselessness and as such is very eager to prove herself herself to the army. Despite this, her inexperience shows even given her best efforts, such as the Torch she inadvertently left behind in Serafew when making the preparatory trip to Grado's capital. She also, at least initially, shows some degree of naïveté such as having believed Grado's propaganda on villainized accounts of Ephraim and Eirika's military victories.
In addition, Amelia tends to be overtly formal and polite around fellow personnel she doesn't know too well, only tending to get more informal after knowing the person well. She even notes to Franz she's "not used to being so casual", showcasing how much she cares about following protocol. Nonetheless, she still shows several moments of humor, especially when relaxed, such as teasing Ross for his desire to be her "big brother" given her rough childhood.
It is hinted that Amelia has a crush on Franz in her Support Conversations with Neimi. Also, in one such Support Conversation, it is revealed that she likes to cook. In another Support Conversation, it is shown that she had a songbird which she released prior to joining Grado's army.

Overview
Amelia is the second recruitable Trainee, and without visiting the Tower of Valni to overcome the deficit in her stats, it can be difficult to justify her placement on the player's team. Amelia has abysmal base stats as expected for a Trainee to have, and despite what one might suspect, she only has average at best growths that's only backed up by the extra ten levels she gets courtesy of being a Trainee. While the extra ten levels she gets helps tremendously, it isn't really enough to merit using her solely for that. Her growths aren't horrible in spite of merely just being average, as she has good Speed and Skill and her Luck is excellent, but everything else is prone to being screwed by bad RNG; her Strength and Defense can be quite chancy to utilize fully without using favoritism, and the odds of her leveling up Resistance might as well not exist, making her vulnerable to magic units. While the additional 10 levels she gets as a Trainee means that, on average, she will have far well and above better stats than your typical Level 1 unit, but given the reliance on RNG to get that far, it's often a gambit that may not pay off in the long run, especially compared to units who join with better bases at worst or are RNG proof at best like Seth or Gerik. However, she like the other Trainees were clearly designed with level grinding in mind; it is inadvisable to utilize her without stopping in the Tower of Valni if one is serious about training her, as the Revenants are weak enough that she can defeat them and acquire EXP easily from it. If one is to use this, it's recommended to have units like Gilliam, Garcia or other stronger units serve as a shield to block off the Revenants from swarming and killing her, while keeping Amelia one placement back from being adjacent to either stronger units. This ensures that Amelia can feed kills from this and easily become stronger. With enough kills, she can promote into a 10/1 Tier 1 class, and on average she will have bases on par if not outright surpassing Eirika in Level 1, allowing her to double almost every enemy in the following chapters. By this point, she will have no problem keeping up with the rest of your units, and by 20/1 as a Tier 2 unit she becomes endgame ready with above average stats to somebody of that level.
If you seek to use her without the Tower of Valni, the process becomes considerably more difficult due to how weak she starts off as. She joins in a rather punishing period of the game where she is too frail to kill units on her lonesome, forcing players to slow down to fully utilize her potential. Her Constitution makes her weighed down by anything short of a Slim Lance, but she can use her Javelin to safely kill enemies from afar, which should allow her to be funneled some kills safely. If looking to effectively train her, Revenants, Entombeds, and severely weakened Bonewalkers are her safest options to gain experience. Even with this in mind, she is not designed for usage without access to the Tower of Valni, so it is very difficult to recommend using her without this. It can be done, but without directly funneling several levels worth of experience into her for an entire Chapter or 2, she will only often get to truly shine by the game's climax, for what could've likewise gone into the rest of your army. However, if one seeks to use her and successfully trains her, she on average comes with enough power to easily hold her own, though keep in mind this process is extremely inefficient without the Tower of Valni and not advisable.
Amelia's branching options are a Knight and Cavalier, though Cavalier is generally the better option due to far higher Move, access to two weapon types, Canto, and the ability to Rescue other units more easily due to the increased Aid she has. However, choosing this will make sure she has to compete with the four other cavaliers in the game for unit placement, one of which is Seth, who is one of the best units in the game. She can promote into a Paladin or Great Knight, as you choose between higher move while being locked to Swords and Lances, or slightly lower move in exchange for full Weapon Triangle control; you can't go wrong either way. If one chooses a Knight, she can get better stats as a result of it, but the low Move of the class often makes it so that there's usually not a lot of situations Amelia can be used. That said, she can still be a powerful combatant in this class, the boost to her Constitution is far greater than Cavalier, and it remaining lower than Gilliam's lets her be ferried by Pegasus Knights like Vanessa and Tana. Her promotions consist of the General and Great Knight classes; the Great Knight class is generally far better due to the increase to Move and control of the Weapon Triangle. Generals have similar control of the Weapon Triangle, but lack the movement of the other class and barring what few Defense maps there are, is generally the inferior pick. That said, she is still formidable even in this class, and her high Speed and Skill means she will double enemies regularly in spite of the class being an armored unit. The skill Great Shield also may be useful, if gimmicky, to compensating if she gets bad growths in her Defense stat. If you've beaten the game more than once, you also get the option of promoting her into a Super Trainee, which comes with an increased Critical Hit chance and keeps her Trainee sprite, effectively turning her into a class akin to a Halberdier. It is not advisable to use this class outside of novelty, though, as she doesn't get a bonus to Constitution, gets locked to Lances and is stuck as an infantry unit.
As a final note, she is surprisingly one of the best units in Link Arena; due to that mode heavily emphasizing endgame caps, of which Amelia specializes in, her strengths become far more apparent in that mode and she can use any three weapon type and potentially S-Rank in them; her best weapon by far is Garm, which gives her effectively 30 Speed, but her other stats aren't shabby either. General is also her best class in that mode, due to the difference of Move not mattering in that mode, the General class's better caps, and the addition of Great Shield potentially giving way to a sudden save.
Overall, Amelia is a lukewarm but fun unit who may be satisfying to train, but she struggles to differentiate and excel compared to numerous other units in her potential roles, and barely gives better 20/20 results than what other units could achieve for far less of a cost. In spite of these disadvantages, she's in a game where her poor start is easy to salvage, due to the extra benefit of ten additional levels for her to run off with a stat advantage compared to other units of the same level, and The Sacred Stones being one of the easiest games in the series. However, it's only really advisable to use her if you're either willing to grind or are prepared to pay the price of using her in a grindless run, as without the structural benefits of favoritism, she loses most of the reasons one may have to consider using her to begin with.

Base Kit
In contrast to her rough start in her original game, Amelia debuted in Heroes in Book I as an powerful Axe Armor. Most notably was her emphasis on good offense with 34 Atk and Spd, the latter being notable as she is the fastest Armor unit in Book I. Her mixed bulk is average for an Armor, but both still respectable at 62 physical and 60 magical. Amelia has managed, by virtue of being an Armor, to remain a popular choice for a legacy unit from Book I as she molds well to the growing pool of skills both geared towards Armors specifically and Atk/Spd skills. Amelia is among the few Book I units to have aged well and continuously gets better as more skills become available, helped particularly by her access to a Resplendent Form for some added stats. While she may not be as explosive or oppressive as many future Heroes, Amelia remains a reliable unit.
Upon release, she wielded a Slaying Axe+, which accelerates her special cooldowns, and later received her own personal Grado Poleax, which retains the same effect, but has more might. When refined, if she has a visible buff put on her like a Hone/Fortify skill or Armor March active, she gains +5 Spd/Def during combat, giving her a solid means to push her Spd enough to prevent being doubled by enemies and soak a few more physical hits better. Amelia enjoys allies who can buff her as a result, especially an armor ally, but she is able to self sustain this effect due to a skill in her set.
Sacred Cowl reduces ranged attacks by 30% when activated, which increases her bulkiness, but can ultimately be replaced in favor of an offensive skill. Earth Boost further increases her Def by 6 if she has at least 3 HP more than her opponent. While she is higher than a chunk of units, a handful are immune to this effect and thus it becomes a dead skill, especially against most heavy Armor teams, of whom the most commonly used do not activate the skill. Armor March is her Skill C, which grants Armors an additional space of movement for their turn. While it requires Amelia to be next to at least one Armor ally to activate, the tight formations of most Armor set ups allows it to come into play easily. The additional movement range creates deceptive range and removes the mobility limitations that often plague the unit type and as an added bonus, she herself receives the benefit so long as she is next to an armor ally at the start of the turn. This skill alone makes Amelia incredibly valuable for skill fodder as she is one of two in the regular summoning pool to have this.
Counters
Amelia's biggest weakness is her lower magical bulk, which leaves her vulnerable to a host of units like Tharja, Lilina, and especially Festival Micaiah, the latter of whom can easily one shot her with Dawn Suzu's armor effectiveness. In turn, armor slaying Reds like Hana, Tobin, and Halloween Hector easily demolish her despite her solid physical bulk. That aside, even some Greens with armor slayer effects like Bartre and Brave Micaiah similarly can smash through her bulk simply due to high might and armor effective weapons. Even if running Distant Counter, the most powerful staff users Brave Veronica, Brave Camilla, and Bridal Fjorm can poke her from a distance and apply the standard Staff skill combos to slowly whittle down her and her allies health due to the usual tight formations of armor teams.
Skill Inheritance
Like most Armors, Amelia should inherit most standard skills attributed to the class, namely Pivot or Swap for a support skill simply for the mobility it helps provider or her teammates and special skills like Bonfire for the damage boost it takes from her solid Def. Distant Counter is put to use easily on her, though alternatives can include Fury just for the flat stat boost. Her Spd makes her one of the best Special Fighter users as she does not need to worry about needing skills like Quick Riposte or Bold Fighter to score a double against her opponent, though Quick Riposte is a decent option to inherit if Special Fighter is not available for inheritance simply to secure doubles against the faster end of the Spd tier.
Amelia works well with Attack Speed Ideal, which syncs well with her Grado Pole Axe. Assault Troop allows Amelia to burst forward with three tile movement in a cardinal direction, forgoing a tight Armor cluster for solo performance while Attack Speed Near Save or Attack Defense Near Save lets Amelia soak the attack of melee enemies that attempt to attack her allies and boosts her two best stats depending of the player wants to win the speed threshold game or just outright improve her physical bulk.

Recruitment (Ephraim's route)
With Ephraim
- Ephraim: You're a Grado soldier? But you're just a child.
- Amelia: I am not a child! I'm a soldier of Grado, and I will defeat every soldier of Frelia I meet!
- Ephraim: Is that so? Guess I'm ready then.
- Amelia: Um...
- Ephraim: Is that the stance you're going to use? You'll drop your lance that way. I'm Prince Ephraim of Renais. Why don't you surrender and come with me?
- Amelia: Wha-what are you going to do to me?!
- Ephraim: Calm down. As long as you don't try to stab me, I won't do a thing to harm you.
- Amelia: You lie! You're a liar! Everyone knows about Prince Ephraim of Renais. He's a beast who attacks any woman he sees...
- Ephraim: .....Right, this has gone far enough. I am not going to hurt you. If you're scared, throw down your weapon and run away. But...if you're willing to listen, I'd like to ask for your help. You must realize this whole war is madness, right? Something is wrong in Grado.
- (Ephraim leaves)
- Amelia: ..... I-I'm...
With Franz
- Franz: You...You're a girl?!
- Amelia: Ah! Don't make fun of me! I'm a soldier of Grado! Prepare yourself, Frelian dog!
- Franz: W-wait a minute!
- (Amelia trips)
- Amelia: Oof..
- Franz: Are, are you all right? It's not surprising you fell over from that stance. Can you get up?
- Amelia: Sh-Shut up!
- Franz: Did you hurt your knee? I know how it feels. I did it often as a recruit myself. To be honest, I still do it more than I should.
- Amelia: .....
- Franz: I'm Franz. I'm a Knight of Renais. What's your name?
- Amelia: I'm Amelia.
- Franz: Do you think I could ask you to surrender? This may be odd, but I really have no desire to fight you.
- Amelia: .....
- Franz: I get the feeling you don't want to fight either. Am I right?
- Amelia: I... B-but...I've heard prince Ephraim takes females prisoners and uses them as palace slaves. If I surrender, will I be forced to work in the palace, too?
- Franz: N-no, don't be silly! Prince Ephraim would never do such a thing...I think..
- Amelia: You think?
- Franz: No, he wouldn't! Of course not. You have my word of honor.
- Amelia: ...Well, you seem sincere. I'll trust you, Franz.
Recruitment (Eirika's Route)
With Eirika
- Eirika: Who are you?
- Amelia: What? What?
- Eirika: Are you from around here? You should find someplace to hide. These men are after me. It's not safe.
- Amelia: But... But I'm...
- Eirika: Yes?
- Amelia: I'm a Grado soldier. I'm here to stop the princess of Renais...
- Eirika: Huh? You're with Grado?
- Amelia: And you're Princess Eirika? But the commander said Eirika's a cruel and merciless fiend...
- Eirika: What? No, I'm... I don't know what Grado's officers have been telling you, but... Our two countries are at war, so I suppose they can say what they want.
- Amelia: ...Mistress Eirika...I, uh, I surrender. I won't fight you.
- Eirika: Huh?
- Amelia: I became a soldier because I admired General Duessel's sense of honor. But the general has been very opposed to this war from the beginning... And now I see you, and you look so sad about all of this. I don't know what's right anymore. I'm just a soldier, but I want to decide for myself. I want to understand the truth myself, to see it with my own eyes.
- Eirika: ...I see. So...does this mean you're coming with us? I suppose I should ask your name then.
- Amelia: Amelia. Amelia of Silva.
With Franz
- Franz: Oh, who are you?
- Amelia: What? What?
- Franz: Are you one of the locals? This is a dangerous spot. You should hide. Here, come with me.
- Amelia: But... But I'm...
- Franz: I'm Franz, a Knight of Renais. What's your name? What are you doing here?
- Amelia: I-I'm Amelia. I'm... Actually, I'm a Grado soldier. I'm supposed to be fighting you.
- Franz: Really? So, uh, you're my enemy?
- Amelia: ...I guess... Are you... Are you going to make me your prisoner?!
- Franz: No! No, I wouldn't do that. But...this is a problem.
- Amelia: What should we do?
- Franz: First of all, you must listen to me and do as I say. We'll talk to Princess Eirika later.
- Amelia: What? NO! My commander told me Eirika's a cruel and merciless fiend who--
- Franz: Oh, that's utter nonsense. I've never heard the princess utter an unkind word to anyone. I understand why you're frightened. You think we're the enemy. But if you'd only trust me... Will you come with me?
- Amelia: Mm... Well, all right. I'll trust you, Franz.

Etymology
The name Amelia comes from either of two names: Amalia, a Germanic name derived from the word 'amal' (work) or Emilia, which derives from the Roman family name Aemilius, which comes from the word 'aemulus' (rival). The birth defect 'amelia' refers to an absence of a limb, from the Greek 'a' (none) and the word for 'limb'. The name Amelia also bears a strong resemblance to the French verb "améliorer", which means "to improve".

Trivia
- In the prototype version, Amelia was the princess of Frelia, and was a Probation Flier.
- As a Paladin, the tip of Amelia's lance changes from red to gray as she moves.
- In Heroes, she shares her English voice actress, Natalie Lander, with Fir from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and Elise and Nina from Fire Emblem Fates.
- As a nod to the General class attack sprite in the GBA games, her Heroes artwork depicts a chain wrapped around her axe handle, with the end hidden in her gauntlets.
