Policies and Guidelines

Humans (人間, Ningen) are a race of being in the Fire Emblem series not too dissimilar from real-life humans.

    Overview

The humans of the Fire Emblem series are similar in structure and ability as humans of the real world. Within the Fire Emblem series, humans are a distinct species among other established, similarly sapient races, most notably the Manakete race first introduced in the original Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light. Later games introduced races such as the Taguel, Wolfskin and Kitsune, all of which bear a mix of human and animal traits, and are capable of transforming into beasts to engage in combat, fighting with their natural weapons such as claws and teeth whereas humans fight with forged weapons and magic.

In the majority of entries in the series, the majority of characters, both playable and non-playable, are human. In some games, either as part of the narrative background or the direct narrative, humans were or are in conflict with their fellow, more chimeric races. In particular, the human race's relationship to Manaketes has varied over ages. In Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, humans were once kept enslaved by the Earth Dragon Manaketes until they rose up and defeated their oppressors, but humans in this same world also revere powerful Manaketes such as the Divine Dragon Naga as a god.

Despite being completely separate species, humans can breed with the other chimeric races resulting in hybrid children. As a result of their mixed heritage, they have a range of appearances. Some like Sophia look nearly indistinguishable from humans despite being half-Manakete. More commonly, hybrid children such as Nah, Yarne, Selkie, and Velouria display some manner of inherited physical traits from their non-human parent. In many cases, these hybrid children also inherit the ability to assume their non-human parent's bestial form, but even if they cannot transform, they still inherit some traits like an extended lifespan, albeit to a lesser degree.

    Tellius Series

In Tellius, the two most prevalent races are the Beorc and Laguz. The Beorc are more similar to the Human species of other worlds. As a result of the word being foreign in Tellius, the phrase "human" is used as a derogatory statement by the Laguz when referring to Beorc. As a retort, Beorc call Laguz "Sub-Humans."

Curiously, the inter-breeding of Beorc and Laguz result in a strange quirk in the latter. A Laguz that breeds with a Beorc immediately loses their ability to transform for the rest of their life. The child of a Beorc and Laguz also results in a Brand appearing on their body and are thus dubbed a Branded. Both races treat Branded unfavorably with the former displaying extreme prejudice to them and the latter shunning them.

    Fire Emblem Fates

Fire Emblem Fates features mainly normal humans in its story. However numerous tribes exist throughout the land, each its own independent entity separate from Hoshido and Nohr, but generally allied with one of the two. Like the nobles of Hoshido and Nohr, the Tribes have a connection to the First Dragons. While they are unable to activate Dragon Veins, tribe members are granted a limited control of a particular element.

Three known tribes exist: The Ice Tribe, Fire Tribe, and Wind Tribe. These elemental affinities appear during combat where tribe members attacks produce an elemental animation associated with their tribe, though these are merely aesthetic. It is shown in story chapters and in support conversations that tribe members do have varying levels of elemental power as Ice Tribe members producing blizzards and Wind Tribe members producing whirlwinds.

    Fódlan Series

"Just a minute! The following section contains spoilers. Viewing it will cost a lot. Are you prepared to pay for it?"

While nothing is hard confirmed, there are heavy implications in both Three Houses and Three Hopes that the humans that at least reside in Fódlan are not true humans but humanoid facsimiles created by Sothis after the war with the Agarthans destroyed Fódlan, and had to rebuild the continent afterwards. The descendants of the Agarthans, nicknamed 'Those Who Slither in the Dark' are likely the original humans of the world of Fódlan, hence their contempt for the 'humans' on the surface, whom they consider to be "beasts."

"End of spoilers. It's a pleasure doing business with you!"

    Fire Emblem Shadows

In Fire Emblem Shadows, humans are depicted as having animal traits such as animal ears, tails, wings, and horns. Unlike the shapeshifting races with similar features in other games, humans do not normally transform, but those that have made a deal with the goddess Fenris may transform into monstrous beasts.
