I know I've been sort of AWOL when it comes to posting lately. I've been reading and commenting as much as possible, but I've been really busy (e.g. seeing Star Trek twice \o/\o/\o/) and such. And I'll fill in some of the stuff I've been up to. But this post is not about that. This post is about me and Cat being all a-flail on my sofa because I've introduced her to The Dog Whisperer.
Ok, so one of the things that has kept me from posting is how much of The Dog Whisperer (and "Lie to Me") I've been watching. Because GUH. Cesar Milan. GUH. He's hot anyway? But mainly, competence is hot.
So anyway - Cat's down visiting me this weekend and I thought, well, really I should show her this thing. And I knew she'd get it, but I didn't realise that she'd love it JUST AS MUCH AS I DO. We are, literally, rolling over and loving everything that man does. Every time he sorts out a dog? Every time he is calm and assertive? NNRRRGHHHHH. He can be calm and assertive with me. :P
Oh who am I kidding - he can do whatever he WANTS with me.
Why do I love this show so much?!?! Stupid reality TV. Also it makes me want a pack of dogs all of my own. And Cat has decided to use some of the techniques on her new cat. See? Cesar helps internationally!
(She also wants to write a Tim/Tony NCIS fic where Cesar comes in to help with "their" dog, Jethro. I approve of this!)
And yes, ok, so I appreciate that you all must be going "Really? REALLY? You're breaking your posting drought with a post about THE DOG WHISPERER?" but WHATEVS. Love me, love my random obsessions.
My favourite fics are first time. I can get behind some established relationship? Or even gen? But dude - I'm in it for the hows/why/wherefores of how these two people sort their shit out and finally get there. Some dealing with their own homophobia is also interesting to me. How do two people deal with that if they're publicly seen as straight? Or haven't dealt with their own feelings before?
And if there's a lot of UST on the way there? Bonus. Extra-special, final round, lottery-winning bonus.
One thing I have noticed though, is that this love of first time also translates into another type of story. That being one where the two are maybe sleeping together from near the beginning, but take a while to actually "get together", if you know what I mean. Like one of them thinks that the other only wants sex or some such. (disarm_d does it really well, that I can think of off the top of my head.) And the arc instead is that realisation that yes, omg, they love me too. Also A+ in my field. It's still waiting for that emotional fulfillment of then sorting their shit out. And how they get there.
So - if you were following - things that usually make up my favourite stories are:
* UST * First time * Delayed realisation of how one/they both feel * Dealing With Their Shit (including their own homophobia) * Delayed emotional fulfillment
And so some of you might be realising where I'm sort of going with this. Yep - I'm describing the John Paul and Craig story arc. So why in god's name was I so shocked that it sucked me in and made me WAYYYY too emotionally involved? It literally is a canon, media-format of my favourite fics.
UST? Check. Two lads who are best friends and one is gay? Looks exchanged and tension drawn out until you're literally WILLING them to HURRY UP OMG? UST to DIE for.
First time? Check. Mmmmm...first time. :P
Delayed realisation of feelings? Yep. ( Collapse )
Delayed emotional fulfillment? Check. The amount of times I clutched at my chest and WILLED it to all turn out right. It makes EVERY moment that they touch or look at each other. Or kiss or TALK into just the most AMAZING thing.
All in all? It's like they went and made my favourite fic-types into a list and then made a story for me. And I can't get over how AMAZING a story it is. If you had told me that a soap (Which I HATEHATEHATE because ( Collapse )) included this story, I would have laughed.
But it's not even just bad-good. It's ACTUALLY good! (Mainly because you don't have to watch any of the other soap-story crap :P) And also includes another of my favourite things: complex characters. John Paul is a lot more straightforward (not entirely, but more so than Craig), but Craig is a DREAM for me. Me who loves almost nothing in the world more than psychobabbling about complex, fictional characters.
So anyway - that's me right now. I'm still reading in Bandom, but not over-fannish about it like I was. I'm still loving Merlin a STUPID amount, reading fic and a tonne of meta. And I'm completely in love with the made-for-me story of two boys who make me happy (in my pants).
You see, over the last week or so she has been flailing about John Paul and Craig.
(For those who don't know (I didn't) they were two characters in Hollyoaks. Hollyoaks? Is a shitty soap that I DO NOT watch. But their epic-gay-love storyline? Oh my GOD. SO GOOD).
So as I had a few hours spare this afternoon, I started watching. SEVEN HOURS LATER I am INSANE and far too emotionally invested in their OMG EPIC LOVE.
*Flails ridiculously*
The "romance" section of the story starts after the two have been friends for a good long while. But although Craig is seeing Sarah and John Paul is seeing Hannah, John Paul is secretly in love with Craig. WHo is STRAIGHTOMG. :P
Oh god - the bit where ( Collapse ) GOD. It KILLS me. And ( Collapse )
It's seriously amazing. As Cat posted about earlier last week, slash is AWESOME. I love playing with the subtext and if the PTBs did go for the pairing off? It might ruin that. But there's something about having this kind of long, epic, COMPELLING story where the gay is CANON. There is PAYOFF. And MAN is there payoff. Over and over again.
It's like - my favourite fics are first time. I love seeing how people deal with getting together and with their issues. Especially the added OMG-GAY thing. And this KEEPS you interested! Because Craig is STRAIGHTOMG. And in a relationship. And terrified of ANYONE thinking he might be gay (even though, after a little spat initially, he's fine with John Paul being openly gay).
People? You NEED to watch this. It is FABULOUS. Here is the link to all the parts - starting with John Paul confessing to Craig that he's in love with him (It may seem like that's pretty far into it already - but trust me. That's only the BEGINNING).
entropical87: i feel like i should send cookies to the person who uploaded all of this. entropical87: maybe a pony. airinshaw: Or a spaceship! entropical87: made of solid gold. airinshaw: And puppies! entropical87: which i will lovingly load into the golden spaceship.
In conclusion:
I love catwalksalone for making me watch this. While at the same time HATING her for getting me so emotionally invested in this. It's so GOOOOD.
(Mostly love, though)
(Why are you still here reading this? Shoo! The link is up there! Go watch it!)
Ok Flist - I tried it alone and failed. Now I need your help.
A wee while ago, back before I had actually watched any Middleman (so probably September sometime?) someone on my flist either posted or posted a link to a huge Why-the-Middleman-is-Awesome picspam thing. Where each pic also had hilarious description attached.
This picspam finally got me to dust off the first ep and actually WATCH it. And I never looked back (\Middleman/).
However, I haven't been able to find it since. Can you help me? Please! I want to read it again now that I KNOW the show and the funnies. Also I can use it to maybe make catwalksalone finally watch it as she has ALL of the episodes.
(Back in the day, it was also how mayatawi got me to watch Psych. A link to a Yay-Psych picspam and I was watching 24 hours later (And if you still have THAT link, Maya? I'd love you EVEN MORE than I do already! \o/). The conclusion is I think that if you want to pimp me into something, picspam me. No wonder I love bandom...)
So I was planning on posting this earlier but then my internets went all wonky.
Basically, Daisy and I are planning a bit of an international Merlin-fest tomorrow. Which basically consists of watching the first 5-7 episodes in chat.
And, of course, if anyone else wants to join us...well, that would be awesome :D
We planned to start around 5pm GMT and go on until we wanted to stop. I personally am going to provide myself with some wine and handy snacks. Because 5-ish hours of fangirl-sharing gay-show-watching is hungry-making, yo.
In conclusion: Anyone is welcome as long as you are ok with much discussion of a prince's love for his magical manservant.
I'll post when we start to point anyone our way to the chat. And you don't have to stay the whole time - if you want to pop in for one episode, or can't join us until later, that's all fine. It's all good people!
In actual final conclusion: The slash_dragon wants you to do it...
(Also, if you know anyone who would want to join in, pretty much everyone's welcome. No, really, I'm actually done this time).
Diasy and I co-watched an episode of Merlin the other evening and a huge amount of fun it was. I figured that if that fun was multiplied by more fangirls then, well, would there be no end to the glee?
To that end, Daisy and I are yet again planning a viewing on Boxing Day (26th December for those of you not versed in the lingo).
