Program Notes

The generating idea of the work is inextricably linked with what may be called an Indian raga, or at least a derivation of a typical raga, “gamala taki”. The measure division with ten eighth notes is constant, while the different divisions of the measures with seven eighth notes respect a predetermined cycle. It is within this rhythmic complexity that the challenge to percussionist Marco Fernandes was launched. The rhythmic difficulty, though disguised to the listener, is one of the most important aspects of this concert for percussion.
