Vultr opens 33rd cloud data centre region in Milan

Cloud infrastructure provider Vultr said it has opened a new cloud data centre region in Milan, expanding its global footprint to 33 locations and strengthening its presence in Europe. The Milan site is Vultr's 9th European region, alongside cities including Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Madrid and Paris, and is aimed at supporting local enterprises and developers with infrastructure for high-performance and AI workloads.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has launched a new promotion as part of its agreement with electronic toll provider Telepass to give TIM customers 200GB of free data at Ultra 5G speeds for six months when they activate the 200 Giga Telepass Edition option. The offer is available until at least 03 June to new and existing mobile customers who activate Telepass services with the operator.

Ho Mobile, the low-cost brand of Italian operator Fastweb+Vodafone, has started contacting former customers to offer them a new 'winback' plan with 100GB of data for under EUR 5 a month plus a free EUR 10 top-up, reports Mondo Mobile Web. The SMS campaign invites customers who have switched to another operator to sign up to the "Ho. Un bonus" offer by 27 May.

Open Fiber launches multicore fibre in Italy

Italian wholesale-only operator Open Fiber said it has deployed multicore fibre technology on a live network in Italy for the first time, completing a 2.1-kilometre link between the the Baggio and Galvani points of presence in Milan. The infrastructure, already in service, uses a single fibre with four independent channels to enable parallel data transmission.

Iliad Italia Q1 revenues up 11% to EUR 331 mln, tops 500K FTTH lines

France's Iliad reported that its Iliad Italia subsidiary posted revenues up 11.2 percent year on year to EUR 331 million in the first quarter of 2026, an improvement on the annual 7.8 percent rise recorded in the previous quarter. Service revenues climbed 11.0 percent to EUR 328 million, with equipment sales rising 27.7 percent to EUR 3 million.

Sardinia-based operator Tessellis (formerly Gruppo Tiscali) said Milan-based data centre services provider DHH International has offered EUR 4.2 million for its B2B business unit as part of the company's ongoing negotiated crisis resolution procedure. The transaction includes the B2B business arm of Go Internet, the latter's stake in X-Stream and Tiscali Italia's stake in Aetherna.

Telecom Italia (TIM) has closed down its "TIM Party" loyalty programme after eight years and replaced it with a new scheme called "TIM Star", confirming earlier reports. TIM Star is designed to "reward relationships that grow over time, transforming them into tangible and increasing benefits", said the operator, adding that the scheme will offer an increasingly simple and personalised experience.

Italian international services provider Sparkle has announced the launch of its Quantum Safe Interconnect (QSI) service across 20 Equinix International Business Exchange data centres in Europe, the Americas and Asia. The rollout follows a successful proof of concept conducted over an encrypted IPsec connection between Frankfurt and Singapore, validating the service's ability to secure long-distance communications against emerging quantum threats.

Telecom Italia (TIM) said it has completed the subscription period for the voluntary conversion of savings shares into ordinary stock. At the end of window, some 5.63 billion savings shares, equivalent to 93.5 percent of the total shares in that class, were converted voluntarily. The share conversion – a longstanding aim of CEO Pietro Labriola – is designed to simplify the group's capital structure, reduce governance costs and enhance liquidity.

Italy's Plenitude expands fibre offer with FiberCop coverage

The Plenitude Fibra brand of Italian electricity and gas provider Eni Plenitude has substantially expanded its offering after reaching an agreement to access the network of wholesale operator FiberCop, according to documents seen by Mondo Mobile Web. The operator's plans were previously only available in areas covered by the Open Fiber network but can now also be accessed via FiberCop's network at download speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps (FTTH) and 200 Mbps (FTTC).

Italy's inflation confirmed at 2.7% in April

Italy's annual inflation rate (NIC) climbed sharply to 2.7 percent in April, up from 1.7 percent the previous month and 1.0 percent in January, according to final data from statistics agency Istat that revised down the preliminary estimate of 2.8 percent. The increase was attributed to higher energy and unprocessed food prices linked to the impact of instability in the Middle East, partly offset by lower prices for recreation and transport services.

Italian operator Fastweb+Vodafone said it has joined forces with Bologna-based publisher Il Mulino to create an AI system that generates detailed descriptions of images in digital books for blind and visually impaired readers. Presented at the Turin Book Fair, the tool uses generative AI to create extended, context-aware text that "gives voice" to visual content as part of Il Mulino's process to make its catalogue fully accessible.

Romania's Digi Communications Group announced in its first quarter 2026 release that its Italian subsidiary ended March with a total of 534,000 revenue generating units, up 6.6 percent compared to the year-earlier result of 501,000. Fitch latest to upgrade TIM rating

Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced on its website that further existing landline plans will be subject to price increases of EUR 2 to EUR 2.99 a month (including VAT) starting 01 July.
